Dorsey News By Mm. Harold Ok born Mrs. Lu Dales, Alaska, is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Mary Wolfe and visiting with other relatives Her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wolfe, arrived Thursday for a visit with his mother and sister and other relatives. It had been several years since Mr. Wolfe and his sister had seen each other. Mr and Mrs. Frank Ruzicka, Omaha, visited Sunday in the Otto Ruzicka home and also call ed at Leonard Ruzickas. They al so attended the dinner in Verdi gre given by the Catholic ladies. They returned to Omaha Sun day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Dm Puckett and son and Mr and Mrs. Lester Derickson and family attended the Dirsey school picnic Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Green and Mrs. Leman Huber were visitors at the Harold Osborn home Fri day evening. Mrs. Huber reports that her husband is now employ ed in Sioux Falls with a con struction company. They plan to live in Sioux Falls this summer if Mr. Huber can stand the work He hasn’t been too well all win ter and spring. Mr. and Mrs. Kudy Cihlar shop ped in O’Neill Thursday. Wednesday Mr and Mrs. Thom as Hiscocks toured the tornado area near Butte and Naper. Mrs. Lloyd Brady held her school picnic late Sunday after noon, bringing another term of school to a close. Mrs. Brady plans to teach at District 4 again this fall. Mr and Mrs. Howard Marston left Monday for their summer work. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Osborn were dinner guests at the Buss Greene home Sunday, then they all toured the area that was struck by the tornado west of Butte and southeast of Naper. Mr . and Mrs. Joe Westover visited at the Rexford Carson home Thursday. Mrs. R. L. Hughes spent Fri day night in the Willis Butter field home, so she could go with her sister to her neice’s wedding Saturday in Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Derickson and family spent Sunday at the John Derickson home. Mr. and Mrs. Don Puckett and son, Butte, were also guests. David Derickson is staying with his grandparents, the John Dericksons. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Barta and Evelyn were Verdigre visit ors Saturday. Meek News By Mr*. Fred Lindberg Picnics, picnics and more pic nics seem to head the news oul Meek way this week. Friday Agee schixil held their picnic, Saturday, District 1 and Sunday the Joy and Opportunity schools held picnics. Paddock Union Sun day school had a picnic at the Austin Searles farm after the morning services aud the Meek school pupils are looking forward to the school picnic Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schmitz, Bonesteel, were Sunday evening visitors at the John Schmitz home. Mr. and Mrs. Axel Borg spent Friday evening at the Sam Ro bertson home. This community received some very nice rains last week. The rain gauge had accumulated inches by Saturday morning. Mrs. Martha Ross came Thurs day from O’Neill to visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Miller and fam ily and attend the school picnic at District 1. She returned to O’ Neill Sunday evening. Mrs. Dave Jensen accompanied Miss Selina Hebner, Butte to Bassett Friday t o make funeral arrangements for her father, J. H. Hebner, who died Thursday. The funeral was held Saturday in Bassett. vioiwia cu Liu L»uve Jensen home last week were Mr. Alvin Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Hag berg, Spencer and Carl Krogh. The Cactus Ranchette project club met with Mrs. Darlene Hip ke Tuesday night. Seven mem bers were present and Twila Hicks joined the club. Roll call was answered by giving an egg recipe. The lesson on eggs was presented by Opal Miller. Next meeting to be with Rose Roberts. Julia Hubby, Hastings and her father, Steve Hicks made a few short visits in the community Sunday. Sister Agnes Marie (Gloria Slaight) who is now at St. Fran ces Mission, S. D., plans to teach in Denver, at the Guardian Angel school next fall. Gordon Slaight had dinner with home folks Sunday. His work, as a trucker takes him to many parts of the country and he is seldom at home Sunday. Paddock missionary society met at the Howard Rouse home Friday evening. Nine ladies were present. The group is preparing clothing to be sent to the mis sion fields. The next meeting is to be held with Martha Johring. Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Johring and Craig were Tuesday visitors at the Henry Walters home. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Dobro volny and Mrs. Viola Hall were business callers at Norfolk Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Young were overnight guests at the Walter Devall home Friday. Many persons from this area visited the storm stricken farms around Naper and Bfgiesteel the past week.. They rejiort much damage occured to buildings, machinery, trees and even the ground appeared to have been hard hit by hail and damaging winds. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Krogh at tended a miscellaneous shower for Gloria Krogh Thursday eve ning given by Demaris Strong. They were dinner guests Sun day at the Merrill Anderson home, Atkinson. Mrs. Carrie Hood spent sev eral days last week with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Armfield. Mrs. George Nelson called at the Henry Walters home Tues day. Ewing News By Mrs. Harold Harris Mr. and Mrs. James Kay and family were honored Wednesday evening by the congregation of the United Presbyterian church at a farewell party for them. Games provided entertainment for the group. Refreshments were served by the ladies of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Kay and Jimmie moved Saturday to Ly ons where Mr. Kay will teach this fall. He will attend Wayne State Teachers college this sum mer. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bergstrom and daughter, Kay, left Satur day for Seattle, Wash., where they will attend the World’s Fair. Dr. Wm. H. Ross was among those from Ewing who attend ed the Riverside school picnic held Thursday. A ball game be tween the grown-ups and child ren provided much amusement for the afternoon entertainment. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Tessmer had as their dinner and evening guests Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kay and Jimmie and Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Horde. Cards were played. Mr. and Mrs. Tessmer and sons plan to leave for Rosalie for the coming weekend. Mrs. Tessmer will go to Wayne for the summer term at Wayne State Teachers college June 4 and Mr. Tessmer will enter the Colora do State college at Greeley June 11. They will move their house hold goods to Friend, where he will teach this fall. Delano Sholl spent the week end in Omaha visiting in the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schindler. Family night was held Sunday evening at the parlors of the First Methodist church with a good attendance. The following program was presented: A spring worship service by the teenage Sunday school class taught by 'Waldo Davis; a reading “Better Than Gold” by RozLynn Spragg; Curtis Roberts jr told the story "The Coat of Many Colors”; Rev. Spragg gave a talk ‘‘The Prodigal Son”; Curtis Roberts sr. told of the progress of the Bible study group which meets Sun day evenings; Mrs. Roberts gave an object lesson “The Ten Com mandments”, her piano students each played a selection. A skit “ “Is the Women’s Society of Chris tian Service Necessary?” was presented by Mrs. Waldo Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rockey. Group singing completed the evening program. Lunch was served by the women of the group. Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Da vis were chairman for the eve ning. Mrs. Althea Peterson spent from Thursday to Saturday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Forslund and family. A dinner party was held Wed nesday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hahlbeck. in honor of the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Hahlbeck. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hahl beck and family, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Erb, Mrs. Maud Boies, Mrs Maud Boies, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoag and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wagner, Creighton. In the after noon a number of women were guests in the Hahlbeck home for a party. John Fabain of Omaha is spending the week in the C. C. Hahlbeck home. A fishing trip to Spencer dam was enjoyed Sun day. Mrs. C. C. Hahlbeck accompan ied by Mrs. William J. Boies and Mrs. Ed Hoag will go to Bart lett Saturday where they will be in charge of the serving and pre paration of the alumni banquet. Sharon Kropp, who will work m Omaha this summer, is spend ing a few days this week there to make arrangements to begin work May 28. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Larsen re turned home Wednesday from Phillipsburg, Mo., where they had been called due to the serious illness of her brother, Ed Pru den. Harry Clemens and Mary Clemens, Orchard, spent Sunday with their sister, Mrs. Ella Ziems. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Shain and family accompanied by Mrs. Har riet Welke attended the picnic Sunday for the closing day of school near Knievel’s store in the country: teachers, Mrs. Rachel Van Conet and Miss Catherine Bauer. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shrader were hosts for a family gather ing at their home Sunday in hon-! or of Mr. Shrader’s birthday an niversary. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roberts were injured in a two car acci dent Saturday night when they were returning home, from Ne ligh. Both are hospitalized at the Antelope Memorial hospital at Neligh suffering from severe bruises. Their car is reported to be a total wreck. Dr. and Mrs. Vernon Rockey and family, Crawford, arrived Sunday and are guests at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Zim merman. Mrs. Vera Anson had as her guests 9unday, Mrs. R. G. Rock ey, Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Butler. Ainsworth, and Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Skidmore, Rockey Point, Wyo. Mrs. Frank Agosta and Ann Marie and Mrs. John Rae and Brad were guests from Wednes day to Saturday in the Charles Rotherham home. They attended commencement Thursday eve ning. Mrs. Agosta’s brother, Dan Rotherham, was a member of the graduating class. The ladies returned to their home in Man hattan, Kan., Saturday. Doctor William Ross and Archie Johnston went to Stuart Monday where they attended a training program for laymen. Doctor William H. Ross went to Camp Cleveland, northwest of Stuart Friday to attend a camp training school for leaders. Dr. Ross will spend June 4 to June 9 here assisting in the junior high camp. The sophomore class of the Ew ing high school held a class par ty at the Ewing Park Tuesday. Soft ball and other games were played. Coach Gary Tessmer and Mrs. Tessnier and two stuns were present for the festivities. Rudy Juracek entered the La dy of Lourdes hospital in Nor folk Monday and underwent sur gery Tuesday morning. His son Larry, was a surgical patient from Thursday to Saturday at St. Anthony’s hospital in O'Neill. Tuesday evening guests at the Rev. Lester Spragg home were Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Davis and Marie.
