Amelia News By Minn Florence Mndae; Mrs. Frank Pierqp and daugh ter, Mrs. Charlie Bligh returned home Thursday from Omaha where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brau since Friday. Mrs. Bligh went on to her home at Alliance the next day. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo and family are enjoying a new car. Mrs. Glenn White has been suf fering with bursitis in her arm and shojlder. Elmer Coolidge has arthritis in his neck and shoulder. It is good weather for aches and pains, as this reporter is just able to walk a little again after a seige of arthritis. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Milton re turnt'd Tuesday to their home in Denver after bringing her father H. S. White to his home. Mr. and Mrs Gary Dierks and family returned to their home in Cheyenne, Wyo. Thursday after visiting his sister, Mrs. Gene Thompson and family since Tues day. Their father, Will Dierks, who had been visiting his son, Gary, and became ill while there, came with them and will stay with his daughter, Mrs. Thomp son, until he is able to return to his home in Atkinson. Mrs. Hienie Frahm and daugh ters, Patty and Karen Sue, sons, Douglas, Dannie and Gregg and her mother, Mrs. Maude Forbes, went to Bassett Thursday and at tended graduation exercises. Mrs. Forbes’ granddaughter, Rita Bouie, was one of the 8th grade graduates. They visited overnight with the Walter Myers family. Mrs. Myers is Mrs. Forbes’ daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Krutz, Stanton, came Saturday evening to join other members erf the family and friends at a dinner Saturday evening at the Legion club in Burwell for her father, Peter Frahm. Others attending the dinner were his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Hienie Frahm, his daughter, Mrs. Keith Shellhase and husband, also Mr. and Mrs. Djnk Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Marden Malmstien, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Krutz, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Royal. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Butterfield and her mother, Mrs Delbert Ed wards returned home Thursday from Omaha where Mrs. Butter field underwent minor surgery. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Edwards who had recent ly moved to Omaha from Nevis, Minn. Gerald has employment there. He is a son of Charlie Ed wards, formerly of this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Orland Fryrear and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Ed wards received word of the sud den death of Charles Radke, At kinson. He is an uncle of Mrs. Fryrear and Mr. Edwards. Mrs. Walter Slaymaker and the patrons and pupils of the Inez school district held a picnic at the school house Sunday. School closed Wednesday. The Amelia Progressive club met at the home of Miss Florence Lindsey May 16. There were eight members and a visitor pre sent. After the business meet ing was adjourned Mrs. Rees gave the lesson on “The Good Egg ". At our next meeting in the fall we expect to have a re port given by Mrs. Tenus Mad sen of her trip to the World’s fair. The Merry Matrons club met Thursday with Mrs. Helen Pokor ny. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bailey, Om aha, came to spend the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn White and to attend grad uation exercises at Chambers high school Friday evening. Her sister, Venita White was one of the graduates. Mrs. Mabel Enbody, Winlock, Wash., arrived Wednesday and will visit during the summer with her son, George Enbody and family, Atkinson, and her daugh ters, Mrs. Tommie Doolittle, Mrs. Jim Bilstien and Mrs. El don Ballagh in the Amelia vi cinity. Another daughter, Mrs. Jack Eggleston, Douglas, Wyo., 'brought her to Atkinson where they all met at the George En body home Wednesday evening for supper. Mrs. Stella Sparks, Mrs. Rus ty Adair, Mrs. Tommie Doolittle and Mrs. Jim Bilstien helped Mrs. Gertie Adair with wall pa pering Saturday. Election in Amelia Tuesday re sulted in a light vote cast. Those serving on the board were Mrs. Bernie Kennedy, Mrs. August Pospichal, Mrs. Blake Ott, Mrs. Hienie Frahm, Bernard Black more, Vern Sageser, Ralph Rees, Dunk Peterson and Pete Frahm. Joyce Watson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Asa Watson and Rita Jo Winings, daughter of Everett Winings will be among the grad uates of the Atkinson high schoo May 24. Dean Sladek, son of Mr and Mrs. Steve Sladek will grad uate from St. Joseph high. Johr Withers, son of Cap Withers com pleted the 8th grade. Mrs. Charles Gates and Mrs Spence, Atkinson and Mrs. Glen Kennicott, O’Neill, were preseni to instruct the officers of the W9CS Friday at Amelia Metho dist church. Twenty four ladies were registered. Officers from the Inman, Emmet and Cham bers societies wye invited. A lunch was served. We have received about 4 in ches of good moisture up to Monday morning. So far we have not suffered any damaging hail or wind storms that have visited near by areas. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thompson, Mrs. Blake Ott and Mrs. Edith Andersen visited Mrs. Lindsey and Florence Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Art DeWolf and Sue, Arcadia, visited the ladies par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thomp son Sunday and all went fishing at Swan Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees and Mr. and Mrs. Blake Ott went to Spencer Dam fishing Satur day evening. Due to the heavy rainfall upstream the fishing was “no good’’. Mrs. Edith Andersen celebrated her birthday anniversary Sunday with dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnston. Mr. and Mrs. Leu Backhaus were al so guests. Miss Mershon Lierman will be honored with a bridal shower May 26 at the Gene Lierman home She will be married the early part of June to Lonnie Fransen, Burwell. Paul and Lois Stewart, mission aries from Bolivia, S. A. will speak and show slides Sunday evening at the .Free Methodist church at 8 p.m. Mrs. Stewart is the former Lois Hodson, Sar gent. George Fullerton and Mr. Fuller ton Sunday. (Last Week’s News) Mrs. Kelly Bilstein received the sad message last week of the death of her nephew, John Buhlke jr., Grand Island. The youth, who was killed in a car train accident, would have grad uated this spring. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Buhlke sr. were residents in the Swan Lake The Square Dancers met at the Amelia hall Saturday night. Mrs. Charles Everett, Harley and Susan, Mrs. Marvin Doo little, Rodney, Ricky and Tim my were O'Neill shoppers, Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus were Mother’s Day guests with Mrs. Bertha Sammons. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schade, Mrs. Gertie Adair, Mrs. Edith Ander sen were Sunday dinner guests with the Lindseys. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Farr, Escondido, Calif., visited Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. George Fuller ton spent Mother’s Day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fullerton, Atkinson, and attend ed church services with them and later enjoyed dinner. Mrs. Walter Slaymaker and her 18 pupils enjoyed a davs out ing in O’Neill Friday, May 11. They visited the newspaper offices, radio station where they were interviewed on the air. They had a picnic dinner at the park. Mrs. Ernest Winings. Mrs. Ed Buleau, and Mrs. Steve Slad ek helped furnish transportation. Mr. anl Mrs. William Fryrear were Mother’s Day guests at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gruenberg, Linda and Carol. Mother's Day guests at the Mil ton Clemens home were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jungman, Mr .and Mrs. Leonard Jungman, Atkin son, and Mr. and Mrs. Levi Cle mens. There will be a WSCS officers training school at the Amelia Methodist church Friday after noon, May 18. Leaders from the Emmet, Inman and Chambers Societies are invited to be pres ent. District officers will be pres ent to instruct the new officers. Bible school will be held at the Amelia church the week of June 10-16. All children in the com munity are invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo and family were Mother’s Day guests in the Ken Werner home in Chambers. They all went to Goose Lake in the afternoon to watch the skiing. I lamp Smith took his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Smith tc their home at Maxwell Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Widman spent Mother’s Day with her mother. Mrs. D. L. Fancher at Ainsworth. Tom Murray and daughters, Cleta and Demaris, O'Neill, were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Adams and Don. Mr. and Mrs. William Fryrear went to O’Neill Monday after noon to attend the eighth grade commencement exercises. Their granddaughter, Linda Gruenberg, was one of the graduates and also played a piano solo for the pro gram. Jancth Oetter. Jack Doolittle and Harold Kennedy received their diplomas at the eighth grade graduation exercises in O' Neill Monday. They were all pupils from Amelia school. The Pine Grovers 4-11 club met Saturday. May 12. at the home of Cynthia Dierking. The County Agent. D. attended services at the Free Methodist church Sunday morning and were dinner guests of the Rev. Mr. Chambers and family. Mrs. Chambers’ bro ther and family, Holdredge, were also guests. Mr. and Mrs. Amos Eckley, Neligh, were visiting at the Ar thur Hiatt home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Coday, Cham bers were Sunday evening sup per guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. Fullerton. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Everett, Har ley and Susan and Mr. and Mrs. Dunk Peterson were guests Sun day evening for sypper at the Vernon Berry home. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Claus sen and family, Denver, Colo, will arrive May 28th to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gil man, Amelia, and Mrs. Margar et Claussen, Atkinson, over the Memorial holiday. Their school is not Put so their visit will be brief. Miss Joan Fullerton and her fiance, Lt. Ken Matthew, Lin coln, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fullerton over the weekend. They announced their engagement and wedding which will be Saturday, May 26, at the Chambers Methodist church. Miss Beth Fullerton ac companied them back to Lincoln for the week.
