Amelia News By Mim Florence Lindsey Mrs. Fullerton Named as New WSCS President ,i,NemC.'£icers were installed for the WSCS when it met in the home of Mrs. George Fullerton Wednesday afternoon. Their were 12 members present. Mrs. George Fullerton replaces Mrs. Ernest Johnston as president. Mrs. John ston was chosen as secretary of local church activities. Other of ficers are Mrs. Lloyd Waldo, vice president; Mrs. Ralph Rees, treasurer; Mrs. Gene Thompson, secretary of promotion; Mrs. Lew Backhaus, Christian social rela tions; Mrs. Edith Andersen, sec retary of children’s work; Mrs. Alice Prewitt and Mrs. Clyde Widman, secretary of mission education; Mrs. Asa Watson, sup ply secretary; secretary of spir itual life, Mrs. Blake Ott and recording secretary, Mrs. Vern Sageser. Mrs. Gertie Marcellus, O’Neill, and her sister, Mrs. Clare Con nors, Broadwater, visited their niece, Mrs. Art Doolittle and fam ily last Tuesday. Mr. MK'lenahan and his fifth, sixth and seventh graders took a sight seeing trip to Pio neer Village and House of Yes terday Tuesday. The group left Amelia about 6:30 Tuesday morning arriving home late that evening. The eighth grad ers were in Sioux City that day, and also had been on this trip the previous year. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Coolidge visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rag land, Juanita and Royvan, near Page Thursday. Edgar Petersons attended a card party in Emmet Sunday evening. Shonna Kennedy, Riverside, Calif., who, with her mother, Mrs. Larry Kennedy and sister, Tammy, were visiting her pater nal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Kennedy and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Prewitt and other relatives was guest of honor at a dinner in honor of her birthday Sunday at the M. B. Kennedy home. They accompa nied Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Slay maker and sons to their home at Albion that evening leaving the early part of the week for their home in California. The Amelia eighth graders, Janeth Oetter, Harold Kennedy, and Jack Doolittle joined the group in O’Neill Tuesday for their trip to Sioux City. Janeth will attend Chambers high school next year, Jack will go to Atkin son. Harold’s plans are indefin ite. Mrs. Gene Thompson received word Monday of last week that her father, William Dierks, had suffered a severe heart attack. He was with his son, Gary, and family in Cheyenne, Wyo., and was hospitalized there. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hiatt, Paul and Gene called at Levi Clemens Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bus Gilman vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce Sunday evening and took them some fish. Mrs. Frank Searles visited her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo and family the early part of last week. She had been called here from her home at Arvada, Colo., by the death of her brother, Custer Johnson, O’Neill. Mr. Johnson’s funeral was Friday in O’Neill. Mrs. Lew Sperling and daugh ter were overnight guests Thurs day with her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo, and visited with her mother, Mrs. Frank Searles and also attended the funeral of her uncle, Custer Johnson. Mrs. Searles accompa nied her to her home at Cotes field that evening and they took her to Grand Island where she went by train to her home in Colorado. Cara Sperling, Cotesfield, who had been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo, Roger, Darla, Deb ra, Bruce and Larry, the past week returned home Friday with her mother, Mrs. Lew Sperling. Mrs. Irvin Forbes visited her sister, Mrs. Charles Smith, Os mond, a few days last week. Mrs. Smith had recently return ed home from the hospital where she had surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Smith, Maxwell, visited Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo, and John Zinkon last week. They had been here to attend the wedding of their granddaughter, Ruthie Smith, daughter of Hamp Smith, to Dan Rowse Tuesday, May 1. School terminated with a pic nic dinner Thursday at the school house. A nice crowd was present for the dinner at the Methodist church Sunday. The films and slides shown on the new projector were enjoyed by all. Mrs. Charles Bligh, Alliance, came Monday to visit her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce, and attended the Helping Hand club entertained by Mrs. Pierce, Wednesday. Beth Fullerton, Venita White, Wayne Burgett and Lorn Blake, all' seniors at Chambers high school, joined the rest of the class on their sneak day trip to the Black Hills last Thursday and Friday. Mrs. Art Doolittle accompanied her aunt, Mrs. Gertie Marcellus, O’Neill, to Broadwater the last of the week to take another aunt, Mrs. Clare Connors, to her home there. Mrs. Connors had been visiting her sister, Mrs. Marcel lus and other relatives the past couple of weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Doolittle, Mr. and Mrs. Dunk Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton were among the guests entertained at the Ed Coday home in Chambers Sunday evening. The first new dial phones were installed in our community Thursday. Heirue Frahm was the first member on the line, fol lowed by Harold Fullerton and Mrs. Bertha Sammons. Two other lines have been completed since, and it is expected to be all con verted in about ten days. Mrs. Glenn White, Mrs. S. C. Barnett, Mrs. Harvey Hansen and children were in O’Neill Fri day. Mr. and Mrs. Hale Kennedy and Debbie, Lincoln, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Kennedy and her mother, Gertrude Straka near Atkinson. Jack Gilman, Omaha, was vis iting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman over the weekend. Mrs. Glenn White injured her back while stooping to do some work in her garden. She has been taking treatments from the doctor in O’Neill. Tenus Madsen sheared sheep for Sam Gilman and Charlie Sig man Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce were Atkinson visitors Saturday eve ning. Oscar Greenstreet, Sedro Wool ley, Wash., has been visiting rela tives and friends in the Amelia area the past week. He spent Sunday with his brothers-in-law, Asa Watson and Ronnie Watson and families. Mrs. Joe Stoecker called on Mrs. Blake Ott Saturday. Mrs. Blake Ott helped Mrs. Rees do some interior house painting Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton, Mr. and Mrs- Dunk Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Doolittle, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman, and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ninham were guests in the Town House in O’Neill Friday evening.
