Mrs. Nick Simons was dismiss ed from the Atkinson hospital on Sunday. Her son, Joe Deermer, took her to his home in Omaha. Kita Obermire, Lincoln, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Obermire. Mr. and Mrs. John Friedel and Cindy Flannigan were Sunday supper guests of Mrs. Ida Stein hauser. Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kay Greenfield were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Greenfield, Bassett. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hytrek and family attended the wedding of Bemadine Kotherham and Leo O'Malley in Ewing on Saturday. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. N. The wind Friday night com pletely demolished a plane and hanger at the Leo Monahan place southeast of Atkinson. The District Garden club met in the Stuart Community church basement Monday, Apr. 30. Eight clubs were represented making a total of about 50 persons. New officers were elected. New direc tor Mrs. Opal Keating, assistant director Mrs. Dobrovolny. Each club had a plant booth and a plant sale was held. Tables were decorated with spring flow ers and a buffet luncheon was served. Two musical numbers were presented by the pupils in the band. E- Timmermans spent Saturday night and Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Rose Monahan, Atkinson, while her sister was in Omaha. Connie Coufal was a Sunday dinner guest of Janette Jardee at the home of Mrs. Agnes Jar dee. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hutchin son, Long Pine, were Thursday afternoon callers of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hoffman and Danny. Mrs. John Kramer, Mrs. E. H Westerman and Mrs. Ralph Mli nar called on Mrs. John Miksch Monday to help her celebrate her birthday that was Saturday. Juliann Anderson, Long Pine, spent the weekend with her cou sin, Rosemary Ramm, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ramm. Alberta Hoffman entertained five tables of card players Sun day evening at her home. Jim Hoffman, Mrs. Katie Papke. El gie Irish, and Mrs. Tom King were the winners. Orchard News Mrs. Lester Withee Mrs. Millie Mahood was a guest when Mrs. Gordon Drayton entertained the Octet Bridge club Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Cecil Lee won high and Mrs. Waldo Rodgers won second. Mrs. Ted Berry will be hostess in two weeks. The Red Cross Bloodmobile was in Orchard all day Wed nesday. Mrs. Wayne Lauten schlager was in charge. Mrs. Lon Sawyer was receptionist. Typists were Mrs. Fern Flet cher, and Linda Auman and Sharon Wellman. Assisting nur ses were Mmes. Lewis Berry, John Auman, Willard Sherer, Miss Mary Clements and Mrs. Clayton Johnson, Verdigre. Fif ty one registered, 5 were re jects. Forty six pints were col lected. Lester Withee received his gallon pin. Miss Adina Vid stet, Antelope County Red Cross Chairman, Neligh, visited dur ing the afternoon. WSWS of the EUB church held their regular meeting Wednesday. Guests at the birthday table were Mmes. Robert Willats, Jessye Shaw, Susan Mitchell, E. Bruce and little Miss Marjory Willats. Two members were reported in the hospital, Mrs. Pete Cooper and Mrs. Alice Quigley. Mrs. Ar chie Walton had charge of de votions. Hostesses were Mmes. Carroll Clifton, Vernon Munger, Ted Berry, Archie Walton and Pete Cooper. PFC Stanley Clifton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Janies Clifton, has been transferred from Fort Hood. Tex., to Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Ind., where he will have 5 weeks of schooling in finance. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mitchell attended the graduation exercises at Wayne State Teachers. Their son Bill received his Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Bill has signed a contract in the Benning ton public school for the coming school year. Michael Voorhies Honored: A University of Nebraska sen ior from Orchard was honored Thursday (April 19) was associ ate membership to Sigma Xi, ranking scientific honorary. The 44 new associate members were recognized at the joint Sigma Xi Phi Beta Kapp honors banquet in the Nebraska Student Union. Michael Voorhies, whose fields are geology, zoology and physiolo gy. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Voorhies. There will be a Spring Band Concert and some vocal numbers presented Tuesday evening, May 1, beginning at 8 p.m. Mr. Foy George will conduct the band and Mr. R. M. Cowling will present the vocal part of the program The Band Mothers will sponsor a pie and coffee social following the free program. There will be a charge for the lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Withee and Jane, Plainview, spent Easter with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Withee and Jan. Harold (Butch) Elston, who has been stationed on the USS Oklahoma City, has been advanc ed in rank from Fireman Appren tice to Fireman. Bill and Newell Mitchell spent the weekend in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mitchell. They will be employed at the Van Berg stables at Co lumbus this summer. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tunender and family called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Marcellus and family Monday evening. Harry Heeb and Mike Bonen berger, Atkinson, called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pon gratz Wednesday morning. Linda Donlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Donlin, O’Neill, spent Thursday through Satur day in the home of her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schaaf. On April 25 the district «9 school planted trees in their school yard. Dean HaUock, from the Soil Conservation Service, O'Neill, brought tin* trees and explained how to plant them. One hundred and sixty nine trees were planted. The Pleasant 4-Her’s and the Lucky Thirteen District B» Green Thumbers are paying for the trees. Mrs. Ralph Schrunk, sec retary of school district tW, will care for the trees during the sum mer.
