Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tucker at tended the open house at the Le gion club in O’Neill Thursday honoring Mr. and Mrs. John Gal lagher, Inman, on their golden anniversary. Guests at the Frank Schmidt home Thursday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tucker. The Barracks No. 2229, at O’ Neill was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tucker Monday eve ning. The May meeting will have a pot luck supper preceding the meeting. A special invitation is extended to all World War I vet erans and their wives to attend if possible. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Kaczor and family, Omaha, are spending the holiday weekend with his mother, Mrs. Eva Kaczor and other rela tives in the Ewing community. Mrs. Ora Stephens was taken to St. Anthony’s hospital Saturday for observation and treatment. Mrs. Maude Boies was a supper and evening guest at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hahlbeck, Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knapp, Sioux Falls, S. Mr. Norwood is in the Til den hospital for treatment of a bad cold on the verge of pneu monia. Mrs. Anna Pollock, Ewing, who has been employed in Om aha for several weeks was in Ewing Friday. She called at the homes of Dewitt Gunter and Mrs. Amy .Jacobsen. Mrs. Pol lock is spending the holdiay weekend with her son, Donald Pollock and family at Neiigh. Easter guests at the home of Ernest Norwood were his sister, Libby Norwood, Elgin, Mrs. Amy Jacobsen and son, Thomas, from Intercession City, Fla., and the Rev. Mrs. Nina Haines. In the afternoon, Mrs. Norwood visited Mr. Norwood at the Tilden hos pital. Easter was spent by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Urban at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bollwitt and family. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Regan en tertained at an Easter dinner par ty at their new home in Ewing. Guests were her mother, Mrs. Laura Spittler, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funk and children, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bartak and family, all of Ewing, Dr. and Mrs. Leo Spittler and family, Norfolk, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Spittler and family, Valentine. Mrs. Joe Tomjack was hostess at a family gathering at her home Easter Sunday. Joe Arehart is a patient at St. Anthony’s hospital at O’Neill, He was hurt by falling from a horse he was riding. He is the seven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Arehart of Ewing. Mr. and Mrs., Eben Grafft re turned home Monday from Col lege Springs, la., where they were called due to the serious illness of his brother. He suffer ed a stroke some time ago. Mrs. Marvin Carl has received word from her husband that he arrived in Alaska and is now sta tioned at Fairbanks. Mrs. Carl hopes to join him soon. They also call ed at the home of Mrs. Mildred Bergstrom and family. Monday evening guests at the home oi Ina Bennett were Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Young, Omaha, Mrs. Flora Young and James Bennett, Orchard. A real estate deal was recently completed by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butler when they sold their home at the south eage of Ewing to Adolph Thramer and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Thramer. This land is a part of the original home stead of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Butler who filed on it in 1379, coming to Nebraska by covered wagon from Harlan, la., and has been in the ownership of the Butler family for over 30 years. After the five-year im provement was completed, an ab stract dated December 13, 1884 was granted by the United States government to the George But lers and in later years was pass ed on to his son, Ray and wife. Three years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Butler built a new modern home on the land and were engaged in turkey raising. At present they have living quarters at the apart ments of Anna Savidge while their new home, now under con struction, is being built north of what is known as the Kay place. This is the second new house under construction in Ewing this spring. The Try and Do Home Exten sion Club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Glen Ander son. Fourteen members answered to roll call. Mrs. Stanley Davis, president, presided at the busi ness meeting. Members were di vided into groups to color Easter Eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt Saturday. Mrs. Anderson was elected to fill the vacancy as sec retary due to the resignation of Mrs. Gary Tessmer who will be leaving Ewing. The May Tea of the Holt Coun ty Extension Clubs which will be held in O’Neill was discussed. Mrs. James Kay was hostess. Mrs. Jerome Fuller and sons, Grand Island, were visitors at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eacker one day this week. Lynch News By Mm. Fred king Mary and Martha society held their regular LWML meeting Thursday afternoon at the church basement with Mrs. Alta Retzlaff in charge. A mission film was shown by Pastor Donald Burg* dorf. The project was Easter Baskets for the patients at the Sacred Heart hospital. Mrs. Ed Johns was hostess. Mrs. Art Bes* sen was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. Dale Bessert and Mrs. Art Retzlaff are delegates to the LWML district convention to be held at Wayne June 5. The First Methodist Women’s Society held their regular meet ing at the home of Mrs. Glen tor Mrs. Robert Conklin and baby son born April 15. Fitteen mem bers were present. A baby shower was held Wed nesday at the home of Mrs. Low ie Nelsen in honor of Mrs. Don McDowell and Mrs. Don Jokum sen and their baby girls. Mrs. Larry Cozine and Mrs. Ray Ho ward were hostesses. Mr. and Mrs. Milford Cameron and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Hornback, and the Baamis ters from Butte were Easter din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wil lard Emme and family. The First Methodist Women's Society held a food sale Saturday, April 14 at the Moody’s Store and made $110. The Spring Band Concert was held last Thursday night in the new auditorium. There were sev eral vocal numbers given which will be used in the music contest at O'Neill Thursday. The Swing Band also played several num bers wnich will be entered that day. The Band Boosters sold rolls and coiiee and made about $67. Mrs. Willa Schollmeyer, Bruce end Bardy, Norfolk, spent the weekend here with relatives, pruce is a freshmen at Norfolk college. The Wesleyan Missionary So ciety held a joint sewing meeting at the home of Mrs. Glen Dyer Wednesday. The town circle serv ed cookies and cotiee. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Kayl and family, Greenville, S. C. came Monday for a week’s visit with relatives. Mrs. Kayl remained here with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hull and Charie will finish school here Mr. Kayl will attend school in Denver for 19 weeks. A supper was held at the Neil Bjornsen home Saturday night in honor of the Don Kayls. It was also Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hav ranek’s wedding anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kalkowski, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hull, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hull and Joyce McGill. Mrs. Mary Fusch returned home Easter Sunday. She has been in the hospital in Sioux City recently. She has spent several months with her daughter, Ar lene and family in Sioux City.
