New liouse with 16 members present, it was voted to buy markers for the graves of Auxiliary members in the Chambers cemetery Tiie president announced the c<iunty meeting to be held at Page the third Monday evening of May. E. Alder son with Mrs. Louis Har ley co-hostess. Eleven members and two children were present. Roll call was answered by nam ing a favorite Bible character. D sir prizes were awarded to Shirley Svatos and Mrs. G. H. Grimes. Lunch was served by the hostesses. The next meeting will be April 18 at the home of Mrs. Raymond Beed with Mrs. Glen Grimes co-hostess. The WSCS met Thursday p m. at the Methodist church with 15 members present. The meeting opened with prayer by Mrs. Louis Neilson. The lesson on “Glimpses of a Fast Moving Society” was presented by .Mrs. Arthur Tange man assisted by Mrs. J. E. Grimes, Mrs. T. E. Alderson, Mrs. T. E. Newhouse and Mrs. Lnii Neilson. At the business session it was voted to accept a pledge to the District of $388; also to give $H toward a fund to enable Mrs. Cojieland to ac company her husband, Bishop Copland on a tour of South East Asia later this year. E. Alderson and treasur er, Mrs. A. B. Hubbard. The meeting closed with prayer and the hostesses, Mrs. Herman Holcomb and Mrs. Gaius Winter mote served lunch. Mrs. Willard Stanton and child ren are moving soon into the Fa gan house in Chambers. The fam ily is coming here from Manhat tan Kan. Mr. Stanton is being called to service with the armed forces in Korea. Mrs. Stanton is the former Doreen Tangeman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tangeman, Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Grimes spent the weekend with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grimes and fam ily at Milford. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jarman, who have been on a ranch at Bas sett ami had a farm sale recent ly, came Saturday, March 31 to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jarman. They made their headquarters at his parents home and visited rela tives and friends at Page and various places. They left on Sat Apr. 7th, and drove to Wayne where they were dinner guests in the Eugene Adams home, going from there to Oklahoma City, Okla., to visit relatives. They will spend some time investigat ing various fields before settling definitely. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Grimes and daughter moved this week end to their new home north west of Chambers, formerly oc cupied by the Alvin Blair family, who have moved north of O'Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Wi>od Jarman left Thursday for a visit with rela tives in Colorado. They planned to visit with his sister, Mrs. Guy Davis and daughter, Emma, at Julesburg. They will also visit their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jarman at Ft. Collins. Mrs. Ola Ermer spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Charlotte Honeywell and Mrs. Erna Tuck er. Two from the Valley Center seh x>l took eighth grade exami nations in Chambers Monday. They were William Whitaker and Kathy Read. Valley Center School has lost five who have enrolled elsewhere during the year. These are Chert, Kelly and Irene lines to Chambers. Mary Lee Harvey to District 212 and Terry Gerkie to Hast lags. Mr. and Mr«. Dick Young drove to Norfolk Wednesday where they spent the night with relatives, go ing on to Omaha Thursday for his medical check-up following heart surgery several weeks ago. A grc*g> of Chambers young people went to Neligh Sunday evening to a Roller skating party. This party was sponsored by Keith Halsey. The Junior MYF of the Metho dist church are practicing for the play "John the Beloved Disciple” which they will present the eve ning of good Friday at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Wood Jarman, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jarman and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jarman and family, Chambers and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hash and child ren, Norfolk enjoyed a family dinner and get-to-gether at the home of the other member of the Jarman family, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Grossnicklaus and child ren Sunday, April 8lh. Mrs. Steve Shavlik accompan ied her brother, L. Gunter, Nor folk, to Iowa City Wednesday, April 4., where they visited their brother, Jim V. Gunter at the Veterans hospital. The latter had undergone heart surgery. He was reported to be getting along very well. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Carson were dinner guesLs ot their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest liurie and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Honeywell, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Roth drove to Columbus Sunday. The Honeywells visited their daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. El win Rubeck and Kathy. Supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Honeywell Friday were her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ekl Urban, Ewing. Merlin Grossnicklaus is get ting around on a walking cast af ter breaking his leg one day last week when his horse fell. Mrs. Anna Albers fell while as sisting at the Charles Fauquier home, breaking some ribs. Some of the Extension club presidents and group chairman of the Chambers Center attended the Recognition dinner in their honor at O’Neill Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Werner plan to move their trailer house trom Valley to Chambers next week. Mrs. Werner and baby daughter are staymg at the Ken neth Werners. Dennis plans to work with his father this sum mer on the telephone line and with business. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Montag, Omaha, came Sunday to get their tliree children who have been vis iting tlieir grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Backhaus. Mrs. Valo Edwards returned re cently from Omaha where she had spent the winter with her daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Chris tiansen and Bonnie, Blair, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Celia Christiansen. Other guests for Sunday dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Christiansen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Gross nicklaus and family drove to Grand Island to visit relatives. Mrs. Alma Farrier was found unconscious on the floor of her j home Thursday by her daughter. Mrs. Alvin Tangeman and was taken to St. Anthony’s hospital, O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Wright ac companied by his parents, Mr. i and Mrs Charles Wright left Sat urday for Denver, Colo , to visit the latter’s grandson. Mr and Mrs Dean Elkins and family and Mrs. Elkin*' parents. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Olson. They returned Tuesday. Celia News Mrs. Merrill Anderson The Atkinson Wesleyan Metho dist Missionary Society held an all day meeting Tuesday at the church parlors with 14 members attending. Mrs. Elrnore Blain gave a report on the Missionary Rally at O’Neill, Mrs Mark Hen dricks reported on mission gifts _ to the Brainard Indian School at Hot Springs, S. D., Mrs. Merrill Anderson has charge of devo tions. Mrs. Leonard Chaffin con ducted the study of Romans. Members observing birthdays or anniversaries in March and April were remembered with gifts by mystery sisters. Recipients were Mrnes. Roy Thurlow, Vivian Vaughn, Merrill Anderson, Ro bert Slaymaker, Elmore Blain! and Mrs . Hazel Freouf. Mrs. David Rahn will be host for the May 1, meeting.
