Carpeuter ' The Chambers club met Wed nesday afternoon, Mar. 7, at the home of Mrs. Andrew Gilbert with John Wintermote as co-hos tess. Eleven members and three children were present. Mrs. C. F. Gilette presided in the absence of the president. Mrs. Gilbert gave a talk. Mrs. Gillette pre sented a flower study. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. John Win termote and Mrs. C. E. Winter mote. The group sang the “birth day song” to Mr. Gilbert and helped him enjoy his birthday cake along with the other lunch served by the hostesses. The Ap ril meeting will be at the Cham bers park with Mrs. Erna Tuck er as hostess. Dale Adams, Chambers high school senior, has been select ed as one of the players on the Sandhill Gateway AA Con ference Basketball team. The Valley Center Extension club met Friday at the home of Mrs. George Thomson with 10 members present. The business session was conducted by Mrs. Melvin Bell. Mrs. Lloyd Winter mote acted as secretary. It was voted to continue donations to the Childrens Memorial hospital in Omaha. This donation is $1 per member and is sent in October. The lesson was presented by Mrs. D. K. Miller and Mrs. G. H. Grimes. Lunch was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. M. J. Fagan. The next meeting will be April 20 at the home of Mrs. Glen Grimes. The Baptist Missionary society met March 8 at the home of Mrs. Frank Porter. Mrs. Wayne Rowse gave the lesson on Tibet. This was followed by a prayer session. Lunch was served by the hostess. Mrs. John Honeywell was sur prised Sunday, Mar. 11, when a group of friends came with well filled baskets to help her observe her birthday anniversary. The Chambers grade school basketball team defeated the Clearwater team 36-32 at the grade school tournament held at Page Friday. Mrs. Vern Wilkinson returned home from Fremont Thursday af ter spending several days there due to the storm. Mrs. Wilkinson had accompanied her brother, Lynn Fluckey, Fremont, who had come to get his mother, Mrs. Art Fluckey. The latter, who had been a patient in St. Anthony’s hospital, was dismissed earlier and is now in a rest home in Fre mont. Her address is 1025 North Broad, Fremont. Mrs. Paul Roth, Mrs. A. B. Hubbard, Mrs. Anna Albers and Mrs. Elwyn Robertson went to Grand Island Friday on business. Mrs. William Jutte visited Sun day with Mrs. Charlotte Honey well and Mrs. Erna Tucker. Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Cooper, Ar nold, Marie and Erna Zuelke, Chambers; Mr. and Mrs. Sewell Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pocket and children, Atkinson, and Darlene Friedrich, Lincoln, were Sunday guests in the Ralph Friedrich bome at Spencer. The group gathered there for a visit with Mrs. Carl Friedrich and ba by, Idaho Falls, Ida., who has been visiting her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Barr, at Tildin and her bus band’s parents, the Ralph Fried richs at Spencer. He ring Royal was without bus service for an entire week, the Sioux City O’Neill bus being delayed by huge snowdrifts in the vicinity of Lau rel. Mail service was delayed four days as well. There was no school for an entire week but classes were resumed Monday. All country roads were closed. The senior class returned from Sneak Day at Lincoln just ahead of the storm. Members of the class are Tom Rundquist, Bruce Meisner, Marlene Radar, Max Heiter, Jean Peterson, Jerry Pet erson. They were accompanied by their sponsor, Supt. L. E. Car ter. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hergt, Hillsboro, Ore., and Mr. and Mrs. Perry Lichty jr. California, were called here by the death March 5 of their grandfather, Alex Lichty. Funeral services were de layed until Friday at Plainview. Burial was made at Brunswick. A brother, Robert Lichty and wife, vacationning in California, returned home. Miss Kathy wrote, “We visited the Lowre and saw the orginal Mona Lisa Writing from London a week later, she stated,” “We are in a nice hotel right in the heart of London, which is a quaint city. A policeman, wear ing a tall pointed white headgear, rides through the streets twice a day, once about two in the morn ing, and again in the daytime.” They were entertaining with Ken ny Baker’s nine-piece orchestra and expected to remain in Lon don two weeks then return home A letter received from Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Dodds, spending the winter at Phoenix, Ariz., stated that Mr. and Mrs. Ed George, Creighton, are there and also for mer neighbors of the Dodds from near Brunswick. Mrs. Lizzie Buckmaster, who had been visiting in Idaho and Washington since October, return ed by train to Fremont and came to Royal Sunday with her son, Dale. Mrs. LaVern Held, who recent ly suffered injuries when a hay rack, passing through a gate, slipped on the ice and pinned her hand to the gate post, is again at home following surgery at the bus pit ill in Nehgh She ta recov ering akwiy but can perform tasks about the house. The body was taken back to O'Neill About 4 p.m Friday they were able to reach the cemetery for the burial Most of the roads here have to he opened by large "cats". The drifts are so deep and pack ed that many roads are still snowbound. Lester Raff, mail carrier, was able to cover some of his route Friday, Mar. !«, the first since March 10.
