Paul Arden Nelson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Nelson, and grand
son of Senator Frank Nelson ar
rived home Saturday. He has
completed serving in the armed
forces for a little over three
years mostly in Korea. Paul
came by airplane from Tokyo to
San Francisco and by train to
Kansas City, where his sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs
Thomas Hoyne, met him. They
visited several hours before he
continued his trip to Omaha.
Gerald Hardings were without
gas to heat their home from mid
night Thursday until 4 p.m. Fri
day. Fortunately for them the
cold wind was in the south and
their kitchen on the north side
of the house. They closed off
the other rooms and turned on
the electric oven until the gas
truck arrived.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rouse
and Lloyd were guests at a chdi
supper Monday evening at the
Delbert Rouse home.
Robert Witherwax opened the
roads north of here Friday and
the folks were able to make it
to town for supplies.
Paul Nelson opened up the
county road to Midway Friday
evening with a small caterpillar
Folks out this way took advantage
and made good use of the open
road. Previous to this time the
wind blew enough to keep tracks
lined up, causing traveling to be
slow and only toy the use of a
shovel in drifted places.
John Schmitz came home froir

return the first of the week.

itors at the Walter Devall home

Mr. and Mrs. Frank. Nelson,
Paul Arden and Nancy Row were
Sunday dinner guests at the Paul
Nelson home.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Armfield
and Harold Fox were visitors in
O'Neill Friday. Danny remained
with his aunt, Arlene, and grand
mother, Mrs. Carrie Hood.
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Fernau
have returned home from Cali
fornia after spending two and a
half months with their daughters
and families, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Harding and Mr. and Mrs. James
Galbraith. Mr. and Mrs. Larry
Fernau met them at Grand Is
land early Tuesday morning.

ner guest Saturday of her mo
ther, Mrs. Carrie Borg.
Mrs. Carrie Hood visited her
sister, Mrs. Charles Snowardt,
Tuesday.
The Paddock Community aid
has postponed the aid meeting

Michael who is in the Methodist
hospital in Omaha. Anyone who
wishes may take part in this
shower.

Sorrow again came to the com
munity here when we learned
of the death of Vincent Taylor
at Elgin. Vincent died Friday
following a heart attack. He was
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Taylor. Services and burial were
held at Elgin.
Snow and more snow was the
song over the weekend accompan
ied by high winds and cold. Most
roads were blocked and school
could not be held Monday. Sun
day most churches had a small
turn out. The Church of Christ
had an attendance of 14 in the
congregation, but did boast 5
ministers, which is a bit un
usual. Most of them on the way
to their various churches got as
far as Clearwater and stopped
over for the service.
WSCS of the Methodist church
met Thursday at the church for
a covered dish luncheon. Eight
members were present. The
meeting adjourned early due to
bad roads. Mrs. Edith Hale and
Mrs. Mary Hemenway conducted
the lesson.
