CASE STUDY NO. 23 Converted Church Makes Excellent Clinic; with Flameless Electric Heat, of course When the United Presbyterians of Pawnee City merged with the First Presby terians and left their church building vacant, it proved a happy event for Drs. A. B. Anderson and H. C. Stewart. Two years ago they purchased the United Church, built in 1937, and quickly converted it into a medical clinic. Tbday the bustling clinic is the very model of a modern medical treatment center. Flameless electric heat plays a part here, too. "Gives our patients draft-free and clean heating,” says Nurse Nadine Stitt. "No noise or interference at all,” reports Mrs. Ardene Hand, X-Ray technician. "Besides it’s economical,” added the bookkeeper. The 2,204 square foot brick building has 6 inches of insulation in the ceiling, a 3% inch blanket-type insulation in the walls. Tbtal bill for November 9 to December 11,1961: $49.82. See your public power people about flameless electric heat soon. Report from Washington By Congressman Dave Martin Fourth District, Nebraska The President has called for a total exjienditure this coming fis cal year of $93 billion. This is $5.5 billion less than was spent in Fiscal 1945, the last full war year. This would establish a re cord spending for peacetime Here are some interesting figures about this $93 billion as rela t'd to Nebraska, according to the Tax Foundation. Nebraska'* share of this a moan, would be X04.3 million The per capita cost fur each man, woman and child In Ne braska would be >422.43. This is your share of the |tropo«r<d budge: for the coming year for each member of your house hold. This U a trcmeiulouH sum of money to be taken out of the income of each of you. lids b why I oppose so vigorously many of the new spending pro grams which have been pro posed to the Congress. The breaking ptint is ra|ddly being reached in the amount of tax ation which the American tax payer can bear. The Administration is going to ask the Congress for standby au thority to set up a $2 billion Fed eral public program to be avail able to the President if a re cession should set in. It is in teresting to note that the Execu tive Board of the AFL-CIO Build ing and Construction Trades De portment took this action some time ago and are the ones who urged the President to act. Again, this is another measure which transfers the authority of the Con gress to the Executive Branch of our government We need some carefully studied plans to reduce the cost of government by the President, instead at continued messages to increase the cost If you note carefully the Sec retary of Agriculture's report to the Congress on the Admmistra tion's new farm program, you will see that one of the biggest surprises of the Kennedy Admin istration this year is the sban ’• onment of the “family farm" concept of agriculture The Sec retary in a speech in Chicago estimated that within the next for as little as a month ... you con invotl in HAMIlTON FUNDS.
