tery, Atkinson. The bride-elect is a senior at Duchesne college, Oma
ha. She will he teaching in the Omaha public schools next year.
Mr. Slattery is a graduate of St. Joseph’s high, Atkinson. He attended
Notre Dame university and Creighton university, and is now a sopho
more in the College of Medicine at Creighton. He is affiliated with
the Phi Rho Sigma professonal medical fraternity. A june 30th wed
ding will take place in Fort Dodge.

At St. John's Church
EWING — Miss Elizabeth Beck,
daughter of George Beck sr.,
Norfolk, and Floyd D. Scholl,
son of Mrs. Edith Scholl, Ewing,
were united in marriage Satur
day, Feb. 24, at St. John’s church
near Ewing.
Officiating at the 11 a.m. dou
ble ring ceremony was the Rev.
Francis Kubart. A. E. Spittler
was organist and accompanied
the vocalists, Jack Funk and
Philip Thiele.
The bride wore a gown erf bri
dal satin and lace, styled with
scoop neckline, fitted bodice and
long sleeves which ended in
(points at the wrists. The bouf
fant skirt was floor-length. Her
fingertip veil of French illusion
was held in place by a crown.
She carried a bouquet of white
and aqua carnations.
Miss Diana Carlson, Norfolk,
was bridesmaid, and she was at
tired in a ballerina-length aqua
gown.
Delno Schol served as best
man for his brother. Leland
Hupp, Norfolk, was usher.
Following the ceremony a din
ner and reception were given by
the father of the bride at the
Scholl home. Fifty friends and
relatives were present. Mrs. Al
bert Schindler was in charge of
the gift book and gifts. Servers
were the Misses Audrey Meis
and Arlene Meis, both of Elgin.
The couple will make their
home on the Scholl farm south
of Ewing where the bridegroom
is engaged in fanning.

Richard Wright in

the scene of a wedding Thursday,
Feb. 22, when Miss Charlotte
Wright, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Wright, Ewing, be
came the bride of Richard
Wright, son of Mrs. Mildred
Wright and Emmet Wright, al
so of Ewing.
The Rev. D. L. Braunersreu
ther officiated at the 10 a.m.
double ring ceremony.
The bride was attired in a pas
tel blue sheath dress with match
ing accessories. Her corsage was
composed of an orchid.
Miss Donna Wright, sister of
the bride, was bridesmaid. She
wore a brown sheath with match
ing accessories and a corsage of
gold carnations.
David Ziems was best man.
The bride graduated with the
class of 1960 from Ewing high
school, and has been employed
as bookeeper at Sojka's in Ew
ing.
The bridegroom, who graduat
ed in 1956 at Ewing, has been
employed as a maintenance me
chanic for the Pollock Sand and
Gravel company.
Mr. and Mrs. Wright are at
home in Ewing following a wed
ding trip.

CHAMBERS — Alfred Walter
sr. was taken to St. Anthony’s
hospital, O'Neill Saturday. . .
Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Grimes re
port that their son. Clarence
Grimes, Milford, had broken
bones in his ankle and leg be
low the knee when he slipped on
the basement stairs of his home.
He was taken to the Seward hos
pital and a cast put on the leg
from hip to foot. He will be in
the cast from 6 to 8 weeks. . .
Eric Retzlaff submitted to major
surgery' at the Lutheran hospital

James Stone in Rite
At Pierre, So. Dak.
VERDEL — Miss Linda New
sam and James Stone were mar
ried at a 2 p.m. double ring cere
mony in Pierre, S- D., February
19.
Parents of the couple are Mr
and Mrs. Leslie Newsam, Valley,
and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Stone,
Verdel.
The bride was attired in a
street length yellow and white
gown with white accessories.
A 7 p.m. reception was held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond Huehl with 25 attend
ing. Mrs Dennis Huehl presided
at the bride's table and Mrs.
Roger Urquhart served.
The bride is a 1960 graduate of
Valley high school and was em
ployed by Western Electric at
Millard.
Mr. Stone, a 1959 graduate of
Niobrara high school, attended
Nebraska university one year and
is presently employed on the
farm with his parents.
The couple will reside on a
farm near Verdel.

Feb. 21, from Wahoo where she
had been visiting her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Lehn. Her son accom
panied her to O’Neill, returning
to his home the same day.
Gary Carver, assistant mana
ger of the Lee store, O’Neill, and
Bill Kostic of the Hested store,
Norfolk, returned to O’Neill Mon
day night, Feb. 19, after being in
Missoula, Mont., assisting with
the remodeling of a company
store since January 15. Mrs. Kos
tic joined his wife and son, Bil
ly, at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Turner, and
they returned to their Norfolk
home Tuesday. Mrs. Kostic and
son had visited here a couple of
days prior to her husband’s ar
rival. Another son-in-law of the
Turners, Bob Lemmec, returned
to his home in Omaha February
17 following a three-day visit
here.
Mrs. Grover Shaw returned
home Friday after spending three
weeks in Phoenix, Ariz., visiting
her brother, Tom Carney, and
her niece and husband, Mr. and
Mrs. Felix O’Neil.

Feb. 21, of the death of his
mother. Mrs. William Lyons sr.,
in Colorado.
Home from Hawaii
CLEARWATER — Larry Wolfe
is spending a 30-day leave with
his parents, Mr and Mrs. Archie
Wolfe, following his return from
service in Hawaii with the U. S.
Navy. After his visit here he will
go to Vallejo, Calif., where he
will enter a nuclear power
school.

Members of the middle and ad
vanced cooking projects of the
Happy Helpers 4-H club met re
cently at the home of their
leader, Mrs. Dwayne Philbrick.
Officers were elected as follows:

distributed and projects were dis
cussed.
Suffers Broken Hip
CLEARWATER — Mrs. Anna
Michael, 75. fell in the dining
room of her home Friday and
sustained a broken hip. She re
sides alone but was aided by
a neighbor who happened by
shortly after the accident. Mrs.
Michael was taken by ambulance
to the Tilden Community hospital
where her condition is described
as good.
Mrs. Grady Is Hostess
Jeudi club members met
Thursday evening with Mrs. Ben
Grady as hostess. After dinner
at the Town House, the group ad
journed to the Grady heme for
cards and prizes were won by
Mrs. L. R. Sutcliffe and Mrs. D.
A. Kersenbrock.

Mrs. Edward Moser, Clearwater,

Childers, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Childers, Elgin.
The bride-elect is a graduate
of Clearwater high school, and
attended Creighton university,
Omaha, and Wayne State Teach

Her fiance is a graduate of
St. Boniface school at Elgin. He
spent three years In the army,
serving In Korea and Japan. He
is now engaged in farming.

the death of his brother-in-law,
Dean Lehr, 71, Albion, in an
Omaha hospital.

folk hospital but is now recover
ing at the home of his daughter
in Norfolk. Kathleen, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Patras, is
a patient in Antelope Memorial
hospital at Neligh. Also at the
Neligh hospital is Mrs. Benny
Prater.
Ends Basic Training
LYNCH — Boon McDonald has
just completed his basic training
at Ft. Carson, Colorado, a'fird is
home for a few days before being
transferred to Ft. Ord, California
where he will be a personnel
clerk.
To Have Surgery
VENUS — Arthur Coover has
entered a Sioux City, la., hospital
and he will undergo surgery later
this week.
On Hospital Staff
EWING — Beverly Rotherham
left from Lincoln Tuesday for St.
Paul, Minn., where she will be on
the staff at St. Joseph’s hospital.
She spent a few days in Ewing
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
James Rotherham, who accom
panied her to Lincoln Sunday.

The newly-organized 4-H club

of District 6 schoolhouse with 13
members present. The new club
is named “Cache Creek Valley
4-H club", and Raymond Leh
menn is leader with Archie Cleve
land as assistant leader. Mrs.
Rose Sedivy will be in charge of
sewing for the girls. Club efficers
are: Shirley Larson, president;
Nancy Turay, vice president;
Marilyn Sedivy-, secretary, and
Dan Bauer, reporter. 'Archie
Cleveland and Bill Huble present
ed lessons. Entertainment was
provided by Nancy Turay. Next
meeting will be March 16.

O’Neill Wednesday, Feb. 21, after
a month’s visit in Phoenix, Ariz .

Enroute home they stopped at
North Platte to visit Mr. and Mrs.
Gatz’ son, Jack and family. The
travelers encountered extremely
hazardous driving weather when
returning from Arizona due to

week for her home in Hampton,
accompanied by Mr. and Mrs

met for a dinner Tuesday eve
ning, Feb. 20, at the Town House
with their hostess, Mrs. Max
Golden. In the playing of cards

tess at the recent meeting of the
BBC bridge club members. Prize

Nickeson. Mrs. Robert Forwood

At a recent meeting of the Sug
ar and Spice 4-H club, the leader,
Ramona Wayman, asked the
members questions about baby
sitting. Following roll call given
by the secretary, Mary Fenton,
the group enjoyed entertainment
and refreshments which were
served by Ann Spitzenberger and
Peggy Martin. Guests were Mrs.
Oscar Spitzenberger and Mrs.
Olberding. The group met Wed
nesday, Feb. 28 for another regu-1
lar meeting and answered roll
call by showing how to fold a j

room Wednesday, Feb. 21, with

pals”. Mr. Hill presented a talk
and showed a film on nuclear
fallout protection pertaining to
agriculture. The next meeting will

joined the Silver Star Sisters 4-H
club when it met at the home of
Lana Bel] Saturday afternoon.
Feb. 24. The meeting was in
charge of the vice president, Lin
da Whitaker, due to the illness
of the president, Margaret Smith.
The leaders gave the lesson on
using a needle and thimble.
