The school board members attended the election of officers for the Nebraska School Improvement (Association board. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ruzicka were supper guests at the Ed Krbel home in Spencer Saturday evening. Roger and Jerry Rosenkrans hauled in a stack of alfalfa for Harold Osborn as. he still isn’t well enough to haul feed for his cattle. Mr. and Mrs. Buss Greene and Mr. and Mrs. Leman Huber spent Saturday evening at the Harold Osborn home. The group enjoyed an evening of cards. Howard Slack t<»ok Lyle Wells to Sacred Heart hospital Friday evening. Lyle hadn't been feel ing well since Wednesday. Friends hope he soon will be able to return home. Mr. and Mrs. William Conard and Neta and Mary Ross called at the Howard Slack home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Barta and Evelyn called at the William Kalal home Saturday evening. Beverly Carson, Lincoln, visit ed here Saturday with her folks and also called on the Carson sisters. Mrs. Hunter isn’t too well at the present time. Beverly left Sunday afternoon for Lincoln. Mrs. Leta Miles and Mrs. Clif ford Sawyer visited Sunday af ternoon at the Joe Hrbek home. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Barta at tended the recent Albert Block sale. This community has been enjoy ing some very nice days the past week. The ground hog saw his shadow, and the bees that were out scouting around had better take heed, or they will get caught away from their hives and never make it back. Monday morning found the temperature consider ably colder, a warning more win ter is on its way. Atkinson News Garden Club Plans to Landscape School Yard Fourteen members of the At kinson Civic Improvement Gar den club met last Friday after noon at the home of Mrs. Will iam Wefso for a special meeting to transact business and make plans for the new year. The meet ing was called to order by the new president, Mrs. Opal Keating. The group is planning to continue their project of landscaping at the elementary school in Atkin son. It was suggested by Mrs. Olive Skrdla and approved by the group to include in the land scaping, three trees as memori als to three deceased members of the club. A collection was tak en among the members to be giv en to the March of Dimes. The afternoon was spent socially after the business meeting and lunch was served by Mrs. Opal Keat ing. The committee will begin working on the new year books this week. Capt. and Mrs. Norris Johnson and children came from Omaha last week to spend his mid-se mester vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mack. Tues day they went to Colorado Springs, Colo., on business and returned to Atkinson Friday. The children remained with their grandparents while the Johnsons were in Colorado. On Sunday they returned to Omaha where he will continue his studies at the uni versity. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wahl drove to Valentine last 9unday to spend the day at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haas and Bryan. Members of the year book com mittee for the Atkinson Civic Im provement Garden club met at the home of the chairman, Mrs. Ella Mack, Wednesday afternoon to select and prepare material for the 1962 programs and pro jects. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Coxbill spent last weekend in Lincoln with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wacha. Mrs. Wac ha is the former Audrey Coxbill. Mr. and Mrs. George Randol and Mona Rae went to Ponca early Sunday to spend the day with George’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McKinley and family, and his father, George W. Randol. w'ho recently suffered two strokes and is improving slowly. The Randols returned home Sunday night. Mrs. Ivan Roth and children. Valentine, came to Stuart last Friday evening and spent over night with her mother, Mrs. Elsie Doolittle and boys. Saturday they visited in Atkinson with Ivan’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roth, where they were overnight guests. Sunday morning Ivan al so came to Atkinson and they were all dinner guests in the Roth home. Other Sunday guests in the Fred Roth home were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, O’Neill, and Donald Roth. The group enjoyed some Sunday afternoon fishing and reported good catches, of blue gill and bass. Mrs. J. W. Carlson. Crofton. enplaned Sunday morning for Rochester, Minn., where she en tered St. Mary’s hospital Wed nesday. Surgery is scheduled for Friday morning. Mrs. Carl son is remembered locally as De.Marus Wefso, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Wefso. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brady and Elwood returned home Sat urday from Lincoln where El wood had dental surgery. Last Thursday evening callers at the Emil Colfack home were Mr. and Mrs. Denton Colfack and Wanda and Mr. and Mrs. Bil] Wefso. On Sunday the family held a reunion at the Kirkland j home. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Vinzenz and fam ily, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kirkland. Mr. and Mrs. Elvon Chace were afternoon callers. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McClurg and Marcia, Broken Bow, were Sunday dinner guests of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Mc Ckirg and Donna. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer (Bud) McConnell went to Omaha Sun day where Bud reported for his medical check up. They return ed to Atkinson Monday night. Mrs. Hazel Purtzer will leave today for Fremont where she has employment. Mr. and Mrs. William McClurg, Bassett, were Sunday afternoon callers of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McClurg and family.
