Chambers News By Mr*. K. R. Otrpeater Mrs. J. H. Gibson, local chair man for the new March of Dimes reports the following contribu tions for Chambers and vicinity: Mother's March, $100; clubs and organizations, $2,140; schools, $36.15; coin collectors, $4 91, and rural $10. The total collected was $101 54. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Gillette, Belle Fourche, S D., visited from Wednesday to Saturday in the home of his father, Mr. and Mrs. C. F Gillette, and his brother, Darrel Gillette and family. Victor Harley returned Tues day from Chicago where he had spent a couple of <lays attending a slum by International Harves ter Company, showing of 1962 machinery. Eighty seven deal ers from the Northwest (Grand Island) district left January 20 from Grand Island, via charter ed plane, and returned there Tuesday. Family night, held Sunday eve ning in the Methodist church, had as the program a continuation of the churchwide study on Latin America. Mrs. Raymond Becd was in charge. The lesson was presented by Mrs. J. E. Grimes and Mrs. Charles Grimes. Film stripa showed Methodist work in Brazil and Chili. Lunch was serv ed following the study. Mrs. Lloyd Gleed drove to Oak land Saturday to spend the week end with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Prill and family and to help Mrs. Prill celebrate her birthday anniver sary. She was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Grimes, who were met in Oakland by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Milton Grimes, and taken to her home in Fremont where they spent the weekend. All returned home Sun day evening. Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Grimes spent the weekend with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grimes and fam ily, at Milford. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Beed visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Russell, and sister, Mrs. John Reynolds and family. They were dinner guests of her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ar nold Bejot. Mr. Russell accom panied them home for a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. D. K. Miller at tended the semi-annual wholesale grocers meeting in Norfolk Sun day. Mrs. Charlotte Honeywell and Mrs. Erma Tucker visited in the Frank Urban home at Ewing Sun day. Mrs. Alpha McKathnie, Bel grade, was a guest of Mrs. Ma -■ rie Smith, teacher in the Valley Center school, last week. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Carpenter 1 were callers in the Tom Baker home at Amelia Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Taugr man entertained at a turkey dinner Friday evening in hon or of the birthday anniversary of her tinier, Alice Johnston. Pre<*nt were Alvin Johnson. Mr. and Mm. The following relatives drove to Stuart Sunday to visit Dick Porter at the Rest Home: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Porter, Mrs. Le tha Cooke, Mr®. Wayne Rowse and son, Brion, and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brion, Ew ing, were supper guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Walter, Sunday. Mrs. A. B. Hubbard, Mrs. Mae Hubbard and Mrs. Anna Al bers were dinner guests Monday of Mrs. Chauncey Porter, O’ Neill. Judy Thomson, student in Lin coln, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Thomson. Mrs. Jack Winings showed moving pictures at the Valley Center school Wednesday. The pictures were taken in Germany while she was there last sum mer with her parents. They showed many interesting scenes vvnicn sne was able to explain to the group. Present as visitors %yere Mmes. The following Chambers rela tives were guests in the Clarence IjOgeman home at Brunswick Sunday, Jan. 28, to help Mrs. Logeman celebrate her birthday anniversary: Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam David, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Logeman, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle David and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Earl David and Mr. and Mrs. Zane Rowse and sons. Arriving last week from Doug las, Wyo., were Mrs. Harvey Nachtman, Mr. Sybrant and daughter. Orva, and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Radford. The latter visitors have been guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Coolidge; the others visited in the Hamp Smith home. All have visited Guy Blake in St. Anthony’s hospital and with Guy’s family at Chambers. Mrs. Nachtman is a sister, Mr. Sy brant a brother-in-law and Mrs. Radford a niece of Mr. Blake. Mr. and Mrs. Radford drove to Norfolk Friday to attend a golden wedding observance of his folks. They plan to return to Chambers in a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cox and daughter, Susan, Lincoln, spent several days last week with his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Cox, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tange man. Mr. Cox was honored at a birthday dinner Wednesday at the home of his parents with the Tangemans as guests. The meeting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service held Thursday at the Methodist church opened with a short prayer service conducted by Mrs. E. R. Carpenter. The lesson was presented by Mrs. Fred Catron and Mrs. Steve Shavlik. Talks were given by Mrs. G. H. Adams, Mrs. Darrel Gillette and Mrs. Raymond Shoemaker.. There was a discussion period. The presi dent, Mrs. G. H. Wintermote, opened the business session with a brief discussion of a new mis sionary orientation center at Stony Point, N. Y. Nineteen members answered roll call. There was a discussion of the annual meeting to be held in Hastings March 21-23; also on special memberships and World Day of Prayer. Lunch was served by the hostesses. Mrs. J. E. Grimes and Mrs. G. H. Grimes. Deloit News By Mrs. H. Beimer Mr. and Mrs. Paul Funk have gone to California by car to visit Art and Helen and their families. The Deloit pinochle club met Thursday at the Lambert Bartak home. Guests were Mrs. Kubart, Mrs. G. A. Bauer, Mrs. Johnny Bauer, Mrs. Xeith Bartak, Mrs. J Bill Sehi and Mrs. Gene Koenig. Mrs. Louis PofahJ, Mrs. Charles McDonald, Mrs. Gene Koenig, and Mrs. Johnny Bauer won pri zes. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Bartak and Mrs. Alice Lodge visited Sunday at the Cliff Lodge home near Petersburg. Mr. and Mrs. Don Spahn and family visited Sunday evening at the Bill Gibbs home. Mrs. Anita Lee called Saturday at the Fred Harpster home. On Sunday Mrs. Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Reimer visited the Roy Johnson home in Neligh. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bartak were Sunday supper guests at the Dale Hixson home. The temperature reached 80 de grees here Saturday afternoon. Just two weeks ago it was mors than 20 below zero. Mark Maben spent two days in the Neligh hospital last week where he had a check up. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bartak, West Point, are vacationing in Florida. Inman News By Mrs. James McMahan Pupils and mothers of District III surprised the teacher, Mrs. James Kelley, with a birthday party January 30. Gifts were giv en by the pupils. A lunch was served. David Sobotka, Norfolk Junior college student, spent the week end visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sobotka. Kieth Kivett, Wayne college student, spent the weekend visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vaden Kivett. Mrs. Larry Williamson, visited > her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Couch, Saturday.
