Mr. and Mrs. George Keller and family visited at the Will iam Lxifquist home Friday eve ning. Jackie and Bruce Morrow came to the Wilbur Bennett home Fri day evening to spend the week end. Mrs. Dewitt Hoke and Mrs. Wilbur Bennett accompanied Mrs. Alfred Conner to O’Neill Friday afternoon. They called on Mrs. Dewitt Gunter and Mrs. Lyle Dierks in the O’Neill hos pital and attended the Star Ken sington at the William Spence home. Sharon Mott came home from the Neligh hospital Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Pollock were supper guests Tuesday at the Bert Fink home. The Carpenters that are re modeling the Lyle Switzer house ate dinner at the Ora Switzer home Wednesday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Z H. Hord visited at the Lionel Gunter home Friday evening on their wedding anniversary. ^ — -- i i am Servicemen's Notes . . . O’NEILL — Army Pvt. Eagene R. Ermer, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ermer, O’Neill, Neb., completed the shoe repair course at The Quartermaster School, Fort Lee, Va., Jan. 12. Ermer was trained to repair leather and rubber footwear and to modify standard issue shoes with prescribed orthopedic devi ces. He entered the Army last Sep tember and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. ATKINSON - James P. Barnes, aviation boatswain’s mate second class, USN, son of Mrs. Ruth Barnes, Atkinson, serving aboard the attack air craft USS Hancock, is participat ing in Exercise ‘‘Air Gun” off the coast of California. The eight-day exercise which began Jan. 12, consists of 15 ships of the First Fleet. Training maneuvers center around a fast carrier striking force which is subjected to air, surface and submarine attacks. Ihe striking force will be replen ished at sea by an oiler and an ammunition ship. ATKINSON — Army Specialist Five Allan L. Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Mitchell, Route 4, Atkinson, is scheduled to participate with other person nel from the U. S. Army, Alaska, Signal Company, in Exercise Great Bear, a joint U. S. Cana dian winter maneuver in Alaska, Feb. 12-21. The exercise will test cold weather military doctrine and the ability of the two allied armies to work together as a fighting team. Exercise Great Bear will be conducted in the vicinity of Tanacross and Eielson Air Force Base, one of the most rugged areas over which an Alaskan maneuver has ever been held. Principle terrain features in the 3,200 square-mile maneuver area are the heavily forested low ” ~ " “““ i lands of the Tanana river valley * and the mountains, which range . as high as 4,000 feet, converg- | ing on both sides of the valley. The lesson stu dy was from the Book of Ro mans. Leaders were Mrs Vearl Tuttle and Mrs. Lionel Gunter. Mrs. Wilbert Napier was lead er of the prayer group Mrs . Tuttle presided at the business meeting. Sixteen mem bers answered to roll call. Members voted to give $25 to ward the purchase of a mimeo graph for the church. Mrs. Wil bur Bennett, Mrs. Archie John ston and Mrs. Wilbert Napier were appointed as a committee to investigate the purchase of an electric mixer and an electric roaster for the church kitchen. The group voted to pay fifty cents monthly dues. Mrs. Kittie Fry assisted the hostess in serving refreshments. Golden Valley 4-II A demonstration on making a cake was given by Vicki Miller at the Monday meeting of the Golden Valley 4-H club when they met at the home of Charles Ro therham. Instructions were given on "How To Measure Liquids'' by Mrs. John Miller, leader. She al so gave them a recipe for the making of muffins Each mem ber received a new book "Know ing our Sewing Machine." Lunch was served by Mrs. Rotherham. Presbyterian .Men The United Presbyterian Men held their regular meeting Mon day evening at the church. Dr. Wm. H. Ross gave the devotions. The topic chosen for study for the following months was "The Dead Sea Scrolls". Dr Ross who has made a study of this dis covery gave an introductory talk on the subject. Lunch was served by Willie and Eddie Shrader. Mrs. Ethel Trumbull is a guest this week at the home of her mother, Mrs. Caroline Sanders and her sister, Mrs Mildred Bergstrom. Mrs. Trumbull, who has spent a few weeks visiting her son, Warren Trumbull, in New Jersey made the trip to Norfolk by plane where she was met by Mrs Bergstrom and Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Alexander. Af ter spending a few days in Ew ing she will return to her home at Allen. Mrs. Roy Dunaway was dis missed Thursday from a Hast mgs hospital, and was able to accompany Mr. Dunaway to their home in Ewing Saturday Guests at the Earl Billings home Tuesday were Mr and Mrs. Arthur Billings.
