The Merry Mutrons club met Thursday at the home of Mrs. Asa Watson. Gifts were ex changed and “mystery sisters” revealed. Gift packages of fruit, cookies and candy were wrapped and sent to the elderly folks and shut-ins in the community. Mrs Edith Anderson and a group of the MYF members went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Doolittle sr., Tuesda • evening. They entertained them with a short program and pre sented them a Christmas cake. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Doolittle and boys were also callers there and brought with them a freezer of homemade ice cream. Mrs. Charles Bligh, Alliance, came Tuesday evening and will visit her parents, Mr and Mrs. Frank Pierce, until after Christ mas. Mr. Bligh, who had been in Lincoln on business, came Thursday and met them in Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Hatch and son, Akron, Colo., came Wednesday and visited her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Peter son, through the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Anton Svatos spent Thursday with their son, Ix*onard Svatos and family. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Ragland and family, Page, were Christ mas dinner guests with her par ents. Mr. Dickerson is a coach in a rural consolidated school known as Turkey Creek school near Edmonds, Okla. Mrs. Dickerson, the former Lois Burge, is attending college and will enter the teaching profes sion. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Milton, Denver, Colo., were guests through the Christmas holiday with her brother, Glenn White and family. Her father, H. S. White, returned home with the Miltons and will stay until spring. Mrs. Vern Sageser, Mrs Link Sageser and Mrs. Ralph Rees vi sited Mrs. Bernard Blackmore at the Burwell hospital Thursday. Anyone who owns personal pro perty on this date must make out an assessment schedule. This includes people who are under 21 that have household goods or other personal property. The law places the responsibility on the taxpayers to list their property. New Improvements on real estate are to be ic|>ortcd at this time. Property of minor children, in competent people, and estates must be reported by guardian or administrator. The law provided a 50% penalty on valuation of tangible property for failure or refusal to list. Everyone between the age of 21 and fiO (except active fire men) must be assessed for head tax. There have been two important changes in the law for 1962. rite law requires everyone who owns a cabin trailer that has been in the county 30 days or over to get a permit without ex ception. Taxis* on cabin trailers must be paid before a permit can be issued. If you own a cabin trailer and did not receive a tax statement, please stop at the Assessor’s office and get a tax statement before going to the Treasurer’s office for the permit. We will be mailing out Motor Vehicle statements before January 1st. If your statement Is not the same as the registration on your car or if you have moved or traded ears since the last registration please come to the Assessor’s office and get a new tax statement. A new law was passed pro\1ding for penalties on Intangible class of property. There are two classes of Intangible property, “A” and “B”. Class “A” is money, accounts receivable, postal savings, and most any kind of cash or checks. The tax on this class is $2.50 per $1000.00. Intangible "B” class Ls Stock and Share in corporations. In vestment Co., tax sale certificates, bonds (except U. S. Savings Bonds), notes (except notes secured by mortgages on Nebraska real estate). Building and Loan (full amount if located outside of Nebraska, a percent in some companies located in Nebraska), annuity's and royalties and etc. The tax on this class Is $4.00 per $1000.00. The penalty for not reporting Intangible property is five (5) times the amount of tax. If the tax was $100.00 and not reported, the penalty would be $500-00 plus the original. The law also applies to estates. Assistant Assessors will be on hand in the different precincts to assist you in making out your schedule, business schedules will be mailed out, individual schedules will be available at the courthouse or from any assistant assessor.
