Rem ter, hospital corpsman second class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Romald Remter, Spencer, while serving aboard the guided mis sile light cruiser USS Topeka, participated in a large - scale Navy and Marine Corps training exercise observed by Admiral George W. Anderson, chief of na val operations off the cost of Southern California. More than 40 Navy ships and aircraft squadrons, and elements of the First Marine Division and Third Marine Aircraft Wing took part in the operation, which fea tured anti-submarine warfare operations, missile firing, carrier operations and an amphibious as sault. Snowardt sr., O’Neill, is serving in the Western Pacific aboard the Seventh Fleet destroyer USS Mansfield, operating out of Yo kosuka. Japan The Mansfield, which has its home port at Long Beach, Calif., steamed to the Far East in Octo ber upon completion of an exten sive repair and modernization program. Navy Ens. Daryl. D. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs Emil John son, Atkinson, is undergoing eight weeks officer indoctrination training at the Naval School of Pre-Flight, Pensacola. Fla. The indoctrination course is given to former enlisted men who are preparing to become limited duty officers. Marine Pfc. Thomas J Chvala, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter P. Chvala, Monowl, is serving with the Third Marine Aircraft Wing at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. Santa Ana, Calif. The wing helicopters, trans ports and jets provide air sup port for infantrymen of the First Marine Division at nearby Camp Pendleton, Calif. Army Pvt. Glenn J. Lockmon, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwaine J. Lockmon, Stuart, recently par ticipated with other meanbtTs of the 8th Infantry Division and Sjj>l>orting units in Exercise Main Barge, a V Corps field training exercise in central Germany. Assigned to Company A of the division’s 26th Infantry which is regularly located in Baumholder, Lockmon entered the Army in April, 1961, completed basic training at Fort Ord, Calif., and arrived overseas last September. Ver digre, was honored at a family dinner on her 82nd birthday at her home Sunday. Mrs. James Rudloff made the arrangements. Those who attended the dinner included Mr. and Mrs. John Rud loff and children, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rudloff and children, Mr. and Mrs. James Rudloff and family and Joseph Rudloff. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rjdloff have lived and farmed in the Walnut community for many years. Mr. Rudloff was a livestock auction eer in years gone by. Now he has two sons that have followed in his profession as auctioneers. James Minarik, Verdel, was a business visitor in Verdigre Thurs day and also visited with Louis J. Bartak briefly.
