Mickey Gilbert, Charles Braun Wed at Atkinson ATKINSON — Baskets of laven der shaded mums and white pom pons decorated the First United Pro.b/terian church altar in At kinscn Monday, Nov. 6, for the wedding of Miss Mickey JoAnn Gilbert, Stuart, and A 3c Charles Eugene Braun, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Braun, Atkinson. The Rev. Raymond Kirsting per formed the double ring ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the prence of 300 guests. Calvin McCIurg was solo ist, accompanied by Miss Donna MeClurg, organist. A gown of hand-clipped Chan tilly lace over tulle and satin was selected by the bride. The bodice featured a scalloped Sa brina neckline, embellished with pearls and sequins. The long sleeves came to bridal points at the wrist. An aisle-wide lace skirt featured inserts of tulle trimmed with appliques of lace. Her veil of imported illusion was caught Photo by E. J. Brady to a crown of crystal. Miss Charlotte Halstead was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were sisters of the bride, the Misses Joyce and Julene Gilbert, Stu art. The attendants were attired in gowns of amethyst parchment taffeta designed with fall skirts, cummerbunds, small cap sleeves and round necklines. They wore matching headpieces. Their bou quets were of shaded lavender and white pompcns. Larry Andrus served as best man. Ushers were Richard Braun, brother of the bridegroom, and Eddie Disterhaupt. Miss Bonnie Siebert and Miss Barbara BraUn were candlelight ers. On hundred and fifty guests at tended the reception in the church basement following the ceremony. Both the bride and bridegroom are graduates of the Atkinson high school. The bride has been employed at Schultz Drug store in Atkinson. The bridegroom is serving with the US Air Force, stationed at Omaha, where the couple will reside after Novem ber 18. Meet Your Correspondent (Another article in the "Know Your Correspondent" series) Meet Mrs. Merrill Anderson, the correspondent for the Celia area who has writing in her blood. She isn't content to write of the doings in her neighborhood for The Frontier, she also writes articles for other papers includ ing a column, has written many features and is also the author of a song and a proposed book of poetry. This correspondent was born and educated at Long Pine. She was married to Merrill A. An derson in 1925 at Winner. S. D., and the couple made their home at Martin, S. D., for eight years. They then moved to Clearfield, S. £>., where they resided seven years before settling in the Red bird community in 1942. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have four children. Percy, Columbus; Merlyn. O'Neill, and Keith and Mrs. Robert Wells, Monroe, Wash. There are 12 grandchild ren. Mrs. Anderson first started writing for The Frontier when Cal Stewart was publisher, and at that time she had two columns, the Red Bird News and "Echoes from the Valley.” She has done some free lance writing, including some speeches for a public speaker, and has al so an interest in photography. She wrote the words and music for a new song. “Sitting Bull" which is under promotion at the present time by the National Songwnriters Guild, of which Mrs. Anderson is a member. How she manages to keep up with all her outside activities and still do such a fine job of corresponding, keeps her friends wondering. She belongs to the Nebraska Historical society; is a member and publicity chair man of the Celia Homemakers Extension olub: a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary society- and also the WMS church choir.'There are 12 pupils in the Sunday school class she teaches. As if all this weren't enough to keep her busy, Mrs. Anderson took courses to further her journalism knowledge and is now a lifetime member of the News paper Institute of America, having graduated in 1961. One thing The Frontier can al ways be sure of if anything hap pens in the Celia area that is of news worth. Mrs. Merrill Ander son will cover the story and see that it gets into print. This paper is happy to have Mrs. Anderson on its staff. Wed 31 Years LYNCH — Mr. and Mrs. Leman Huber, Lynch, went to Hooper Friday to visit over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Coulter. It was the Hubers’ 31st wedding anniversary. They returned to their home Monday. Former Verdigre Teacher Departs For Denmark VERDIGRE — A former rural school teacher east of Verdigre, Gerri Krasch, Salem. Ore., has departed for Denmark after being selected by the Scandina vian Seminar for a year’s ad vanced study in the field of fine arts and crafts. Miss Krasch is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Krasca, Salem, and a niece of Vac Randa, Ver digre. Her mother is the former Carol Vlasnik, Niobrara. Miss Krasch attended Oregon College of Education at Monmouth, Ore., and is a June graduate from the University of Oregon. She was named outstanding junior woman in the field of art in 1960 and also won the Oregon's Dad's scholarship and the Inga McClurg architectural school scholarship. She was a member of two honorary- societies while attending the University of Ore gon. Her work will be displayed soon during an art exhibition in Bush house museum in Salem. Carol Harmon Weds Stanley Plessel In California Word has been received of the marriage of Miss Carol Faye Har m -n, Glendale, Cali/., daughter of Mr and Mrs. Clinton J. Harmon. O’Neill, and Stanley W. Plessel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boy Plessel, O’Neill, Oct. 21, in the Glendale Presbyterian church, Glendale, Calif. The Rev. Edward Righty of ficiated at the doable ring cere mony at 2 p.m. The bride was attired in a white lace street length dress and carried a b uquet of white roses. Mr. and Mrs Robert Jones, San Gabriel, Calif., attended the cou ple. Mr. Jones is a cousin of the bride. Mrs. Jones wore a pink sheath dress, and her bouquet was an arrangement of pink carnations. Both Mr and Mrs. Plessel are graduates of O’Neill public school. The bride is employed as a book kee,*er for the Security National bank in San Marino, Calif. Mr. Plessel has be<'n employed by Capitol Bridge of Lincoln, and is now employed in San Gabriel, Calif., where the couple is resid ing at 9119 East Ardendale Ave. Elia Holguin Weds Larry Larson in Jeffersonville, Ind. EWLNG — Announcement is made of Miss Elia Holguin, Colo rado City, Tex., to Larry Larson, Ewing, Saturday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. in the Immanuel Baptist church in Jeffersonville, Ind. The bride appeared in a sheath dress of aqua wool jersey, accent ed by a small rhinestone heart necklace. A matching hat com pleted the ensemble. Serving the bridegroom as best man was Hosea Vivas, Puerto Rico, who is currently stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. , The bride spent part of her va cation with the Larson family this summer and made the acquain tance of several friends and rela tives of Mr. Larson. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Larson, Ew ing. and he is a graduate of Ew ing high school and the Commer cial Extension school, Omaha. He attended Sterling college for one year. He completed his ser vice in the US Army in August. The couple spent their honey moon in Louisville, Ky., and plan to make their home in Lincoln. O'Neill Locals Mr. and Mrs. Bob Eilers, Til den, spent Sunday at O’Neill vis iting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hancock. Mr. and Mrs. Emil J. Adamson spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Koenig, Ew ing. The Rev. Ralph Cogswell, Ne ligh, was in O’Neill Sunday eve ning to conduct communion ser vices for Episcopalians at the M. L. Burney home. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Moler, Kan sas City, will arrive this week end to spend a week visiting rela tives and friends. Mrs. Moler is the former Joanne Simonson. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gakle were recent visitors in Omaha when they attended the marriage of Mr. Gakle’s mother, Mrs. Helen Gak le, and Floyd McKim, at the First Methodist church chapel. Bridge Club Meets Mrs. James Rooney was hos tess of the Wednesday Afternoon club when it met for a luncheon at the Tropical Gardens. Project Club Meets The Elkhom Project club met at the h me of Mrs. Minnie Hig gins Tuesday evening with all but one member present. One mw member joined the club. After the business meeting the lesson on ‘ Mosaics, on Art and Craft” was presented by leaders, Mrs. Har den Anspaeh and Mrs. Bill Clau sen. The next meeting will be a Christmas party to be held De cember 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tropica] Gardens. To Present Play CHAMBERS — The junior class of the Chambers high school will present a play, ‘ Finders Creep ers” at the high school auditorium Friday at 8 p.m. Food Sale Planned St. Anthony’s Hospital auxili ary will hold a food sale and bazaar November 18 starting at 11 a.m. in Shelhamer’s store. Pro ceeds from the sale will be used toward the purchase of a bino cular microscope. All contribu tions will be welcomed by the group. Dr. and Mrs. L. R. Sutcliffe spent the weekend with his mo ther, Mrs. Ralph Sutcliffe, at Ver million, S. D. Arriving in O’Neil] Tuesday as a guest this week in the L. R. Sutcliffe home was Mrs. A. C. Wallahan, Minneapolis, Minn. Regular Meeting Held The WSCS women of the O’ Neill Methodist church met in the church basement for their regular meeting Thursday. Mrs. Roy Wayman opened the meeting with a song, followed by silent prayer. A “thanks” offering was given. The program was given by Mrs. John Enke. Mrs. C.W. Porter and Mrs. Orville Nicker son served a 2 p.m. dessert. The next meeting will be December 7 in the church basement, .-o Mr. and Mrs. Francis Curran and daughter, Mary Jo, spent the weekend in Atlantic, la., with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Paulsen. The Paulsens are recently mar ried. Their marriage was per formed in Omaha August 11. Mrs. Paulsen is the former Betty Lou Curran. Away during winter EWING — Mr. and Mrs. Theo dore Schueth are leaving this week for Humphrey where they will reside with their son and daughter-in-law during the winter months. The Ewing couple will return to their home in the spring. Meeting on Thursday Members of St. Patrick’s Altar society will hold its regular meet ing Thursday at 8 p.m. in St. Mary’s gym. There will ibe a ta ble of homemade gifts suitable for Christmas gifts, also home made baked goods. For entertain ment a wedding dress revue will be held showing gowns dated back 40 or more years up to the pre sent time. A special prize will be given and lunch will be served. Ewing News Ity Mrs. Harold Harris Ewing Students Hold Box Social And Dance Party The sophomore class of the Ewing high school sponsored a box social Thursday evening at the school gymnasium with all high school classes participating Auctioneers were Eddie Rother ham, sophomore; Don Hahlbeck, senior; Victor Thoendel, junior, and Mike Beelaert, freshmen. The proceeds of $80 will be divided among the four classes. Dancing followed the social. Class spon sors present were Supt. G. D. Ryan, senior class, James Kay, junior, Gary Tessmer, sophomore and George Keller, freshmen. A meeting was held Thursday evening at the United Presbyter ian church which featured Civil Defense. A good sized crowd was in attendance. Robert Ehlers, county agent of Antelope county, was the guest speaker. He also showed a film. Wefso, Denver, Colo., daughter of Mr. and Mrs William Wefso, Atkinson, anti Norman E Hodge, Denver, was performed October 21 at 3:30 p in in the Parkhill Methodist church, Denver. A gown of ivory silk brocade, simply styled along princess lines, was crosen by the bride for her wedding. The scoop neckline and long tapered buttoned sleevts were edged with delicate seed pearls. Her voluminous skirt swept to a chapel train A finger tip veil of ivory silk illusion was caught to a halo of pearlized orange blossoms. Shower Ilonorre A miscellaneous shower honor ing Joan Barlow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Barlow, was held at the basement of Cache Creek school house, Saturday evening with a good crowd in attendance. School Dedicated The Cache Creek School was dedicated Sunday afternoon with an attendance of approximately eighty persons. Ray Sedivy was master of ceremonies. The fol lowing program was presented pledge of allegiance to the flag; invocation by Rev. Lister Spragg, and flag drill by grades one to four. Miss Alice French, county superintendent of schools gave a talk on “Democracy in the Schools”. A skit was given by the upper grades, “Our National Arnhem”. The dedicatory talk was given by Mrs. Fred Bollwitt. A social hour was enjoyed and lunch was served by the ladies of the dis trict. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Sehi, Ewing, are the teachers in th s new modern school building of two rooms, Mr Sehi has the low er grades and Mrs Sehi the -up per. The fundation of the new res idence of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bergstrom in north Ewing was begun Monday by workmen.
