Grade Teacher Resigns;
Replacement Is Sought
Mrs. Frances Anderson, Nor
folk, first and primary grade
teacher in the local school, lias
resigned her position and a re
placement is being sought, at
this writing.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grow,
Wayne, were calling on friends
here the first of ihe week.
Mr. and Mrs. Uay Sanks, North
Platte, visited several days with
Mrs. Sank's father, William Lu-1
bon, and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Maben re
turned from California where:
they had visited their son, Gay
ien and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kimes, Ca
lifornia, are visiting friends and
relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Springer,'
Oregon, has been visiting Mrs.
Springer’s mother, Mrs. Martha
Wilcox, and other relatives. Mrs.
Springer is remembered here as
Fdna Wilcox.
Mrs. Walter Snider left Friday
by plane to visit her s ,n, Wayne!
and family in Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank McGee
were dinner guests of tlie Calvin
Kucera family in Schuyler last
Sunday.

eral directors convention in North
Platte.
Mrs. Sarah Mapes spent a cou
ple of days near Hoskins visiting
at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Stanley Langenburg and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard I.uhcn
were honored at a dinner in
the Oita llubel li*me Friday
evening in observance of their
33rd wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Inez jaeke has returned
from California after visiting her
daughters there.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Roosendale
an 1 family have moved to then
farm (jccupied by Clyde Patras.
The family moved their trailer
home on the place and are living
in it.
The annual Lord’s Acre auction1
was well attendeil Saturday night
ut the Legion hall here. The event, j
sponsored by the members of the
Methodist church, always draws j
a large crowd. W nun of the
church served lunch from 3 p.rn.

Harry Graham was able to re
turn to his home Tuesday after
a six-week stay in the Veteran’s
hospital in Lincoln where he had
undergone major surgery.

Carnival Planned for
School Band Fund
On November 17 tentative plans
are formed for the Band Parents
club to sponsor a benefit carni
val for the Verdigre school band,
the event to be held in the high j
school gymnaisum. Various forms
of entertainment and lunch, also
a food sale and a “white ele-1
phant” sale are planned. Mrs. H.
Vonasek, Mrs. Raymond Sou
eok and Mrs. Joe F. Farnik are
the co-chairmen.
The Verdigre FFA members
who attended the National FFA
convention in Kansas City, Mo.,
returned home October 15. Those
who attended were Richard Nov
acck. Gone Marshall, Donald For
man, Gene Marshall, David Hr- *
bek, and their advisor, Ted D.1
Ward.
There have been several chan
ges made in Verdigre of late.
Ted’s cafe which has been operat
ed for a number of years by Mr.
and Mrs. Ted Ondracek, has been
sold to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Me
serve, Coiambus, who are moving
to Verdigre to make their home.
The new owners will talre orve.

Larson, who has been employed
at Tony’s tavern for sometime,
has accepted a position here with
the Gas Company of Plainview,
and Jerry Souhrada, who has
been employed by the McElhose
company has taken Larsen's
place at Tony’s tavern. Bruce
Walton, who has been employed
by Plainview Gas company, plans
to move to South Dakota in the
near future.
October 27 4-H Achievement
Day for Knox county will be held
at Verdigre in the ZCBJ hall
starting at 8 p.m. Dr. Otto Hoi-!
berg of the Nebraska Center for i
Continuing Education of the Col- i
lege of Agriculture campus, will
be the main speaker. Coronation!
of the king and queen and pre-j
sentation of awards will be other
highlights of the program. Elaine
Skucius, associate State 4-H lead
er, will present the awards to
the 4-H members. This event is
open to the public. Lunch will be
served following the program.
Ionic Lodge No. 87, AF & AM
held the regular communication
Thursday with good attendance at
the Masonic Temple at Niobrara.
Howard W. Mayberry, Master
preskied. Improvements are to
be made at the temple before
the cold weather starts. Those
attending from Verdigre were Joe
J. Jacot. Leonard J. Kocina, Tony
C. Paesl, John E. Pavlik, Mario
-Custer, Bolton, Randa. Floyd
Hildreth and Vac Randa.
JoEllen Famik, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. Famik, and
Kenneth McElhose. son of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter McElhose, spent
th* weekend with their parents.
Both are attending the University
at Lincoln and are graduates of
Veridgre high school. I
