Chambers News By Mrs. E. R. Carpenter Auxiliary Plans Annual Reception for Teachers The American Legion auxili ary met Friday evening at the home of Mrs. A. B. Hubbard, 'the president, Mrs. Donald Green, presided. Twelve mem l>ers answered roll call. The president announced the County Legion and Auxiliary meeting to he held at Chambers September 18 and that Group 1 would serve. A menu was planned and Mrs. W H. Crawford and Mrs. Edd Coday appointed to arrange a program. A note from Mrs. Genevieve Bell, Ft. Collins, Colo., thanking the group for a 25-year pin sent her, was read; also an invitation from the Pierce unit to attend the District 2 conven tion October 1. A reception for the teachers was planned for later in September with Group 2 serving. Following the meeting, lunch was served by the hostes ses, Mrs. A. B. Hubbard and Mrs. C. F. Gillette. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller, Omaha, and Mary Gill>ert, Lin coln, were Labor Day weekend guests of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Miller. Larry Swanson left Friday for Chicago, 111., where he is enrolled at ihe Moody Bible institute. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Stone :uid family, Lawnsdaie, Calif., arrived here recently to make their home and hi take over Ihe o|»eration of the IGA store in Chambers. Mrs. Stone is the former Joyce Catron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Catron. The family has moved into a house owned by Mr. and Mrs. . _ E .. ,1... ........ .... ... .. f ........ Mr. and Mrs. Glen Taylor were in Omaha a week ago Mon day where they and other Ford dealers of Ihe area were shown the 1962 Ford cars. Mr. and Mis. Carl Kramer and family, Vancouver, Wash., were visiting friends and relatives at Chambers August 30 on their way home from Illinois. Mrs. Kramer is the former Enid An derson, who was reared in the Chambers community. Dinner guests Sunday in the William .Julte home were Mr. and Mrs. Art Miller, Chambers, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller, Oma ha, and Mary Gilbert, Lincoln. The occasion was the birthday anniversary of Mr. Jutte and Art Miller. The two families have had this birthday anniversary dinner together for a number of years. Mrs. Dora Townsend. Page, came Thursday and is a guest of Mrs. Sarah Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Shavlik and Pam left Sunday for Denver, 4 Colo., where they will visit their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Shavlik. About 25 persons were pre sent for supper Thursday eve- j ning at the Methodist church when tlie losing side in an at tendance contest of the high school class of the Sunday school, entertained the winning side. Glen Adams, teaelier of the class, furnished the steak j sind the members, the other i tilings for the meal. The girls of the group did the cooking. The Prairie Wranglers 4-H club held the final meeting of the year with Peggy Gerkie at the Richard Jarman home Saturday evening. Twenty-nine were pre sent with the leader Ehvyn Ro bertson. The books were closed, all work completed. Lunch was served by the hostess, Mrs. Jar man, and cohostess, Mrs. Bern ard Hoffman. Gary and Gail Holcomb re turned recently from Colorado where they had spent their va cation roughing it in the mountains. The boys, who en joy mountain climbing, have sjiont their vacations that way for the past several years. The Rev. and Mrs. Norman Walter visited the past weekend with her sister and family at Rapid City, S. D. The Rev. Charles Cox spent Sunday evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Sanford at Eric son. Mrs. LeRoy Holcomb has en rolled at Kearney State Teachers college and will leave Monday when the term opens. Medcalf, Chambers, and her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Max Medcalf and family, Shreveport, La., who have been visiting his parents, returned Saturday evening from Minneapolis, Minn., where they had visited several days in the Ben Medcalf home. The Max Medcalf family left Monday for Lincoln to spend a day with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Avard and Patty before going on to their home in Shreveport. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Taylor, Bassett, spent Labor Day with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Taylor and fami ly Relatives from out of town at tending the Campbell-Farrier wedding September 3 included: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Farrier and family, Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lieswald and child ren, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Dar rell Wedgewood and family, Grand Island, and Mrs. Irene Campbell and family, and Mrs. Edith Johnson and family, Mil ler, S. D. Mr. and Mrs. Don Cameron, accompanied by Mrs. Bob Koci, left Thursday of last week for Houston, Tex., to take back the former’s two nephews who had spent the summer here. Karen Cameron stayed with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Cameron, Kathy with her grand mother Tomjack, and Kelly with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Tomjack. The group re turned home Wednesday. • Mr. and Mrs. Glen Burge and family spent the Labor Day weekend in Lincoln with her mother and other relatives. Mr. Burge attended the State Fair. Royal News By Mrs. R. J. Rering Two Parties Held Despite Chilly Weather In spite of the sudden drop in temperature that brought the mercury down to 50 degrees Sun day morning, two out-of-door parties were held Sunday with a large attendance at each. The 65th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lichty was held in the city park at Plainview with an estimated 100 in atendance during the day and 80 persons at dinner. There was no program except a tribute to the honored guests and verses relative to the life story which was written for the 50th anniversary by Mrs. R. J. Bering and brought up to date for the 65th observance. A picnic party in compliment to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Meisner and their sons, Kent and Bryce, Hillsboro, Ore., was held at Grove Lake with a large number of persons in attendance. The picnic also complemented Mr. and Mrs. George Sewell and daughter, Sandra, and her father. William Noblitt, Alton, 111. Surprise guests in the afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Eyer, a son and daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Eyer, formerly of the Royal community, now living in Missouri. Gailen Montgomery, industrial arts and music supervisor at Craig, and Karen Anderson, Oakland, were Sunday dinner guests of his mother, Mrs. Wal ter Montgomery. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Montgomery and family were evening guests. Work on the municipal play ground at Royal is being held up by the inability to obtain the de sired wire for fencing which has long been ordered. Gravel which had been spread over the tennis court was badly washed by the recent rains, and it has been necessary to buy several loads for replacement. Posts are being set, and seating benches fot spectators are on the ground* It is hoped that the fencing will arrive in time for the project to be finished before winter. VVSCS was scheduled to meet with Mrs. Elmer Lichty Wednes day of this week. Mrs. Fred Storm visited her daughter, Mrs. Emil Klabenet and family at Chambers last week and returned home Sunday. Greg Rundquist will resume school at Wayne; Gary Storm re turns to Norfolk Junior college; Barbara Morrison is a senior at Wesleyan at Lincoln, and Frankie Morrison returns to the Agricultural collage at Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Meisner. who have been living in Pierre, S. D., for several years while Mr. Meisner was engaged in construction work, are returning to Royal to remain until they have made plans for a new loea tion. Mrs. Meisner is a daughter of Frank Storm Gus Ennen and his sistei^in luw, Mrs. Herman Ennen, were the honor guests last week at a surprise party at the Herman Ennen home, honoring the birth days of each. Present were the families of Truman Kirby, Wal ter Beutler, Everett Johnston, Clarence Weber and Andrew Jen sen. Herbert Williby, who was a hospital patient in Neligh last week was released to return home. Mr and Mrs. Kenneth Eyer left Saturday for Sheridan, Wyo., after spending three weeks here during which time he was a patient in the Neligh hospital.
