: ' 'Pi Sharon Schmidt Weds Elwin Babl In Catholic Rite EWING — Miss Sharon Schmidt,, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schmidt, Ewing, and Elwin Babl, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Babl sr., O’Neill, were united in marriage Saturday, 9ept. 2, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Pet er’s Catholic church, Ewing. Officiating at the ceremony was the Rev. Peter Burke. Mrs. Lou is Vandersnick, organist, accom panied the vocalists, Miss Linda Schmiser and the Misses Gloria and Diane Schindler. The bride appeared in a street length dress of white peau de soie, featuring a scalloped neck line, short sleeves and a fall skirt. Her short French illusion veil was held in place by a tiny crown of aurora borealis and pearls. Her bouquet was made in the shape of a cross with a white orchid surrounded by blue and white tulle and stephanotis. Miss Luann Babl, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor. Bridesmaid was Mrs. David Carr. They were attired in sapphire blue peau de soie dresses made with fitted waists, full skirts and rounded necklines. They wore liny matching hats and carried bouquets of white and sapphire blue carnations. Their dresses, Leslie Farman Weds Mitchell Ray Kurtz ATKINSON — Miss Leslie Far nam and Mitchell Ray Kurtz, both of Valley, were married Friday evening, Aug. 25, at Val ley. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Les Parnam, Val ley, and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Dan Snyder, Atkin son. The 7:30 p.m. ceremony was performed at the home of the bride’s parents. Attending the couple were the bride's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Barauska, Valley. Mrs. Kurtz attended Valley high school. The bridegroom is a graduate of West Covina high school in West Covina, Calif. He is employed at Western Electric company, Omaha. Following a wedding trip to Long Pine, the couple is resid ing at 2532 Davenport Street. Om aha. The cake was cut and served by Mrs. Joe Pon gratz, Emmet, assisted by Mrs. Leonard Thorin, Cheyenne, Wyo. Mrs. John E. Babl presided at the coffee service and Mrs. Duane Pongratz, at the punch table. Serving were the Misses Jeanne Rodgers, Linda Schmiser, Coralee Schmiser, Cecelia Bazelman, Nor ma Ziems, Maxine Koenig, Bon nie Welke and Helen Marie Du satko. The Misses Mona Mosel, Carma Lee Harkins and Alice Fahrenholz took care of the gifts. Miss Patricia Harkins had charge of the guest book. The bride attended Ewing high school and Wayne State Teachers college, after which she taught in a rural school. Mr. Babl attended District 00 school, and served two years in the service. He is now engaged in farming and ranching near O’ Neill where the couple will re side following a wedding trip to the Black Hills. LaRue Johnson, Barbara True Exchange Vows ROYAL — The marriage of B;irbara True, Sioux City, and LaRue Johnston took place Sun day at Elk Point, S. D., with the bride’s mother and the bride groom’s father, Everett John ston, Royal as witnesses. Following a trip to the Black Hills, the couple will reside on the Johnston farm where the bridegroom has been making im provements on the house adjoin ing that of his parents. Isla Mae Ruda Weds Vilas Braun At Lynch LYNCH — At 2 p.m. August 18 the Christ Lutheran church in Lynch was the setting for the wedding of Miss Isla Mae Ruda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Ruda, Bristow, to Vilas E. Braun, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Braun, Creighton. The Rev. Donald Burgdorf of ficiated at the double ring cere mony. Mrs. Walt Wesche was or ganist. The bride’s dress was a floor length gown of nylon sheer over tulle and satin. It was fashioned with fitted bodice and long tap ering sleeves. Jeweled applique of imported Alencon lace was featured on the bodice front, scoop neckline and scattered ov er the full gathered skirt. A large butterfly bow adorned the back. Her double veil of French illusion was caught to a crown trimmed of sequins. She carried a white Bible with a cascade ar rangement of red and white ro ses. Mrs . Harold Hansen, Bloom field, was matron of honor. Mrs. Stanley Kiepke, Winterset, la., was bridesmaid; both are sisters of the bridegroom. They wore matching dresses of blue nylon over taffeta with white nylon bo leros. They each carried cascades of white carnations with blue streamers. Harold Hansen, Bloomfield served as bestman. Stanley Kiep ke, Winterset, la., was grooms man. Following the ceremony the bri dal party enjoyed a dinner at Slat’s cafe in O’Neill, after which the couple entertained at a dance in the Lynch 'ballroom. The couple spent a few days is the Rocky Mountains and various other points of interest in Wy oming, Colorado and Nebraska. They are residing on a farm northwest of Lynch, Lucy J. Lyon Weds G. Nachtman Aug. 26 Miss Lucy J. Lyon, Manhattan Kan., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lyon, West morland, Kan., and George Nachtman, SaJina, Kan., son ol Mr. and Mrs. John Nachtman, O' Neill, were united in marriage at 10 a.m. August 26 in the Seven Dolors Catholic church, Manhat< tan, Kan. Monsignor Merchant officiated at the ceremony before an altar decorated with bouquets of yel low gladioli and white carnations. The nuptial mass was recited by the Rev. Mr. Hake. Miss Jenny Silva was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. John Collister at the organ. The bride was given in mar riage by her brother-in-law, Vir gil Fleming, St. George,, Kan. She selected a waltz length gown of imported lace and tulle for her wedding. It was styled with a basque bodice, long tapered sleeves and a full skirt which was enhanced with imported lace tiers. The veil of illusion fell from a crown of pearlized leaves and orange blossoms. A bouquet of white roses and stephanotis was carried on a white prayer book. Mrs. E. J. Burgardt, Salina, was matron of honor, and she was attired in a two-piece yellow street length dress of crystalline. The dress had a full skirt, em bossed bodice and elbow length sleeves. She wore matching ac ucasuriea, aim carried a DJuquei of white and yellow carnations. Serving as best man was Mr. Burgardt. Ushers were Jerry Simmer, Wamego, Kan., and Ed win Nachtman, Chambers, bro ther of the bridegroom. A dinner was given by the cou ple for about 50 guests with a reception following at Jensen’s Country dinning room. The three tier wedding cake was Cat by Miss Genevieve Nachtman, Love land, Colo., sister of the bride groom. Miss Sandra Fleming was in charge of the guest book. Miss Alma Spiecker, Miss Janis Rey nolds and Mrs. Alice Reynolds were in charge of the gifts. The bride attended St. George rural high school, and has been employed by A. L. Duckwall stores as a cashier. Mr. Nachtman attended Cham bers high school and the Ameri can Flyers School of Aviation, Ft. Worth, Tex. He is employed as a preventative maintenance analyst for Convair Astronautics. Following a trip to Colorado, the couple will be at home at 511 E. Jewel, Salina, Kan. Orchard Youth Wins U of N Scholarship ORCHARD Michael Voor hies, son of Mr. and Mrs. K. L. Voorhies, has been awarded two scholarships for use in con tinuing his studies at the Uni versity of Nebraska. Karen Farrier Weds G. Campbell CHAMBERS — Tall baskets of gladioli and seven branched can delabra decorated the altar of the Methodist church here for the wedding Sunday, Sept. 3, of Miss Karen Farrier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Farrier, Cham bers, and Garland Campbell, son of Mrs. Irene Campbell, Miller S. D. Performing the double ring cer emony at 2 p.m. was the Rev. Charles Cox. Traditional wedding music was provided by the so loist, Mrs. Sam Burtwistle, and the organist, Mrs. Elwin Robert son. The bride selected a ballernia length gown of Chantilly lace net over taffeta, designed with a V neckline deeply embroidered with seed pearls and sequins, basque waist and long tapered sleeves ending at the wrists with a net ruffle. The voluminous skirt wyas of clipped lace ruffles and net. She carried an arrangement of white carnations and lilies of the valley on a white satin Bible. Miss Gayle Farrier, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaid was Miss Velma Campbell, sister of' the bride groom. Glen dora, Calif., are here on their vacation, visiting relatives at Ew ing and O’Neill. Margaret Donohoe, a student in X-ray training at Emmanuel hos pital, Omaha, was home over the weekend visiting relatives and friends. Birthday Celebrated Mrs. Gary Elsberry entertain ed 12 girls at a birthday party Saturday in honor of her sister, Marilyn Peterson, who was 13 years old that day. The afternoon was spent in a scavenger hunt and other games were played. Lunch was served. Has 14th Birthday Linda Gildersleeve, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Harry Gildersleeve, celebrated her 14th birthday Sat urday at a party held at Fort Randall reservoir. Carolyn Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilson, left Thursday for Denver to resume her teaching there this fall. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George McCarthy and family for the last several days was their daughter, Beverly Mc Carthy, Omaha. Arriving Satur day morning from Geddes, 9. D., was Gertrude Steffens, Omaha, who has been visiting her parents in Geddes. Miss Steffens and Miss McCarthy returned to Omaha to gether Saturday where they fire employed with the Bell Tele phone company. Visiting over the Labor Day weekend from Sioux Falls, S. D. were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Sulli van and boys. The Sullivans ar rived Thursday to visit with Mr. Sullivan’s mother and sister, Mrs. Pat Sullivan and Mrs. Will iam Jansen, and other family members and friends. Also vis iting at the Pat Sullivan home is Mrs. Sullivan’s daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. John McGill and Joanne, Omaha. The McGills will visit here about a week. Mrs. Warren Spicer, Wessington Springs, S. D., baked the three tier cake which was cut by Mrs. George Smith. Pouring cof fee was Mrs. Daryl Wedgewood, Grand Island, sister of the bride’ and another sister, Mrs. Robert Lieswald, Lincoln, poured punch. Serving were Miss Judy Smith and Miss Lorna Mins, St. Law rence, S. D. Mrs. Lyle Clemens, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Clif ford Campbell, arranged the gift table. The guest book was handl ed by Miss Roseann Blake. The bride attended Chambers high school, and the bridegroom attended the Sunshine Bible aca demy. Schrader At Coleridge EWING — The Emmanuel Lu theran church at Coleridge was the scene of the marriage of Miss Linda Hansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick D. Hansen, Coleridge, to Lavern Shrader,son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Shrader, Ewing, August 27. The 7 p.m. candlelight double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. L. Scholl before an al tar decorated with baskets of pink and white gladioli, and with candelabra. The traditional wed ding music was played by Miss Diane Rastede, Laurel. The vo calist, Harlan Schrieber, Cole ridge, was accompanied by Mrs. Dean Wilkerson. A floor length gown of white silk organza and net net over taf feta was chosen by the bride for her wedding. The bodice and ov erskirt were French embroider ed illusion and the dress was styled with a Sabrina neckline and long tapered sleeves ending in bridal points. The organza skirt was decorated with ap pliques of roses and leaves that matched the overskirt. Her fing ertip veil of illusion fell from a crown of pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses. Miss Eva Hefner, Oakland, was maid of honor. She wore a street length gown of blue organza ov er taffeta with a round neckline and short sleeves. The bouffant skirt was of embroidered ap plique organza. Her bridal hat was of blue tulle with scattered pearls. She carried a colonial bou quet of blue and white carna tions. Bridesmaids were Miss Loret ta Shrader, Ewing, and Miss Sal Leaving Monday to spend a few days in Polk were Mrs. Es ther Morgan and Mrs. C. E. Jones. Jerome Gallagher and Donald Volenec, Omaha, arrived Friday to visit at the Ralph McEIvain home and to spend sometime boating and fishing at Fort Ran dall on the McElvianEveritt houseboat. John McEIvain accom panied them. Mr. Gallagher and Mr. Volenec returned to Omaha Monday. Mr. Gallagher, former ly of O’Neill, is employed with a photo studio there. Mr. and Mrs. M. Grutch and Jeanie Crabb returned recently from a trip to Colorado and Wy oming. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Craig, Flint, Mich., were Friday afternoon dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Liedtke and fam ily. Later Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ruther, Inman, and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Craig went to Chambers to spend the evening visiting Mr. and Mrs. AI Liedtke. The Lloyd Liedtke children, Terry and Lar ry, were overnight guests at the Everett Gorgens. Mrs. Ralph Walker, Mrs. George McCarthy and daughters, Ruth Ann and Lynn, went to Liny coin Sunday to attend the State Fair. They will visit with family and friends there and were ex pected to return home Monday. Galen Hull, Primghar, la., ar rived Saturday to visit over the Labor Day weekend with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Hull, and other relatives and friends. Galen is employed with the Hoak Construction company and for the last three years has been work ing in Omaha, Primghar, la., and will now be working in Marcus, la. Galen returned Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Asher and family, Alliance, visited from Fri day until Monday with Mrs. Ash er’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Appleby, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Appleby and family; also other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Asher are for mer residents of O’Neill. Junior Adamson, Fred Apple by, and Deraid Graham went to Hastings Saturday to attend the Little World Baseball Series. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Hefner, Oakland, were dining room hosts at a reception held in the church parlors with 200 guests attending. Mrs. Alfred Wilkerson decorated the cake which was cut by Miss Verlyne Preston and Miss Joan Hansen. Miss Jolene Frerichs and Miss Norma Nelson poured. Miss Barbara Johnson served the punch. Mr. Shrader graduated from Orchard high school, and will be a senior at Wayne college. He will have a bachelors degree in education. After a short wedding trip the couple will reside at 815 Logan Street, Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. John Dewitt went to Bassett Sunday to attend the Bassett Golf tournament. Their son, Mike, was an overnight guest at the Joe Langan home. Mr. and Mrs. John Grutch and children, Mike and Ann, arrived Saturday to visit over the Labo# Day weekend with Mrs. Tess Pro tivinsky, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Grutch and family and Mrs. Will iam Grutch. Lohaus over the Labor Day weekend were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Lee Baker, Omaha. Re-enlists in Navy James D. Enright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Enright, went to Omaha last week where he will visit his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weber. Mr. Enright re-enlisted in the U. S. Navy for a six-year term. He will be stationed in San Diego where he will attend an eight-week course in air-conditioning and re frigeration. Mabel Thomas left Wednesday morning for Wayne State Teach ers college at Wayne. Major and Mrs. H. 0. Brennan and family, Air Force academy, Colorado, arrived here in their private plane Friday to visit ov ernight at the home of Berna dette Brennan. Vannie Newman spent from Monday until Thursday last week visiting her daughter, Mrs. Wil liam Schiessler at Ainsworth. On Wednesday Mrs. Newman and Mrs. Schiessler went to Valentine to visit Melvin and Clinton Hooper, brothers of Mrs. New man. Miss Betty Schultz, daughter of Mrs. John Kersenbrock, trans- j ferred from Hastings college tol the University of Kansas at Law rence. She is a junior and work ing toward a major in music. Celebrates Birthday. Frank Osborn had 40 persons to help him celebrate his birth day last Thursday evening at his home on North Fourth. Pre sent were his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Carey and children of Portland, Ore., who are here on vacation; another daughter, Mrs. Ed Stems, her husband and children, Atkinson; also Floyd Osborn and family, John Osborn and family, Mrs. Ed Seger and family and the children of Mr. and Mrs. Vin cent Osborn, all of Atkinson. The birthday cake was baked and decorated by his wife, a, niece, Mary Osborn and a grand daughter, Phyllis Carey. Venus News By Mrs. Ralph Brookhouser Mrs. Marlin Tusha, Genille, Russell and Kenneth left for their home at Woodbridge, Va., Mon day. They have spent the past months with (heir parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tusha and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brookhouser, and other relatives. Mrs. Tusha’s father accompanied them to Vir ginia. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Brookhou ser came Tuesday to visit his grandfather, Joseph Sokol, at the Creighton hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Moser and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Caskey visit ed at the Creighton hospital where their niece, Judy Jacot. Verdigre, is a patient. Supper guests August 2(i at the Vincent Jackson home were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jack son, Creighton, and his brother in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Shoemaker and family, Long Beach, Calif. They were all dinner guests Sunday in the Virgil Jackson home. Mrs. George Jeffrey and Mrs Leo Jundt motored to Omaha August 25 where they visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mitchell and family. Saturday Mrs. Mitchell and children return ed home with them. Mr. Mitchell came later to spend his vacation with their parents, the Leo Jundts and the George Jeffreys. Six-month-old Randy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Finch jr, is a patient at the O’Neill hos pital with virus infection. Mr. and Mrs. Junior Rokahr and family, Randolph, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nor man Rokahr sr. Mrs. George Jeffrey called at the Clarence Finch home Sun day. Mrs. Vincent Jackson and Pat ty called at the Ralph Brookhou ser home Thursday on her way to the home of her niece, Mrs. Lynn Larson, near Page. Mrs. Ralph Brookhouser has \ spent much of her time with her father, who is seriously ill at the Creighton hospital. The Roland Cook’s children are staying with their grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. She is a graduate of St. Joseph high school, Atkinson, and the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Omaha. Mr. Smith, an aviation me chanic and pilot, is manager of the Stuart-Atkinson airport. He is a graduate of Logan County high school and received his aviation training in Lincoln. He served in the army two years.
