Lichtys Feted
At Royal on
Golden Wedding
ROYAL Mr. and Mrs. AJex
Lichty, living six miles northeast
of Royal, were married 65 years
ago Wednesday, Aug. 30, ;uid in
observance of this occasion, wall
lie honored at a picnic dinner at
the city park in Plainview Sun
day.
The event is being planned by
their sons. Harmon, Elmer and
Perry and families. Relatives
and friends are invited to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Lichty were mar
ried at the home of the bride’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. August
1 loiter. August 30, 1896 with the
Rev. S. W. Baer, Brunswick of
ficiating. Their attendants.
George Mitchell and Dadie
Weaver, were married also at a
later date.
The first two years of their
marriage they lived wdth her
paretnts and then went on a farm
by themselves. In 1904 they
moved to their present home
where they leave lived for 57
years. The couple has six grand
children and six great grand
children.
Mr. Lichty w'as 84 August 18
;ind Mis. Lichty celebrated her
85th birthday August 22. Mr.
Lichty has three brothers, Duall,
John and Robert, and one sister,
Mrs. Fred Anson, all living on
farms in the same vicinity. Mrs.
Lichty has one brother, Francis
Heiter, O'Neill, who with his
wife, celebrated the 62nd anni
versary of their marriage.

Harry Smith has returned from
Lincoln where he had heen a
patient in the Veteran’s hospital
for several weeks. Mrs. Smith
had been in Lincoln with rela
tives during her husband's hos-'
pitalizalion and accompanied him
home.
Mrs. Edna Johnston, Mrs.
Clayton Meisner and daughter,
Mrs. W. J. Reefe, Jolene Pick
and Mrs. R. J. Hering were
Plainview visitors Thursday.
Mrs. Luettie Snyhde, Lincoln,
high school instructor in Royal,
arrived Saturday and will make
her home with Mrs. Mabel Meyer
during the school year.

The American Junior Region
baseball team, consisting of
players from Orchard, Page,
Royal, Elgin and Ewing, and
their families, held a picnic

trict championship and was
second in the area.
Sandra Fryer, Norfolk, is visit
ing her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Russell Burch, and the
Darrell Anson family this week.
She expects to enter Norfolk
Junior college.
Gailen Montgomery, youngest

mery, and a graduate of Wayne
State Teachers college, as

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Mattison
and family were Sunday dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
Montgomery.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burch,
Grand Island, came Sunday for
their son. Dean, who had spent
several days camping at Grove
I^ike with his aunt, Mrs. Glenn
Rundquist and Nolan.
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Rundquist
returned Saturday from Apple
ton, Wis., where they had gone
to get their daughter, Priscilla.
She spent a week there with her
brother, Charles.

Mrs. Walter Montgomery was

were Norfolk visitors Friday and

Last Weeks News—
Mrs. Mabel Briggs, who left the
Royal vicinity 54 years ago, re
turned this week for a visit with
relatives and friends. Mrs. Briggs
came with Mr. and Mrs. Lute
Thurber, who were returning to
Royal following a trip to their
home in Iowa. Mrs. Briggs will
accompany Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Bauer to Boulder, Colo, to visit
a sister at Frederick, Colo, and
return to Iowa with Bauers when
they return home. Mrs. Briggs
will be remembered as Mabel
Howard. Mrs. Briggs stated that
she lives on an 80-acre farm
which she cares for herself. She
raised 11 children, six of her own
and five step-children.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Klabenes,
Chambers, called on Mrs. C. F.
Storm Saturday while returning
home from Wayne where Mrs.
Klabenes had been attending
Summer school. She will be em
ployed in the Chambers school
again this year.

Heights, S. D., and daughter, Mrs.
Jeannie Ullmer and little daugh
ter, Phoenix, Ariz., visited Mrs.
Edna Johnston, Mrs. Wayne Wal

Mrs. Blanche Lingenfelter, who
has been ill, is recuperating at
the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Merle Lichty.

meetings the second Thursday
in September with Mrs. Edna
Johnston as hostess.
The children of Mrs. Rose
Rundquist, Newman Grove, held
a family reunion Sunday at the
Elwin Rundquist home with din
ner at the new auditorium. Pres
ent were the families of Dr. Rus
sell Rundquist. Columbus; Gay
Rundquist, Sloan, la.; Del, Storm
Lake, la.; Dean, who came from
California and who is moving to
Ohio, and the Orin Mann family,
Farragut, la. There were 31 pres
ent.
Mrs. Floyd Foreman. Tekamah.
and her daughter, Mrs. Frank
Green, Columbus, called at the
R. J. Hering home Wednesday.
Mrs. Foreman lived for many
years in the Venlus neighborhood
following the death of her hus
band, and then moved to Creigh
ton where her sons operated a
lumber yard before selling out
and locating in Albion. It is Mrs.
Foreman’s granddaughter who re
cently was selected as “Miss
Nebraska”. From Royal, Mrs.
Foreman and her daughter were
going to the Venus community,
and then were to return to Al
bion where a banquet was to be
held for “Miss Nebraska” before
she left for Atlantic City.
Mr. and Mrs. George Bryan
and Billy Keetle, Bremerton,
Wash., are her on a visit to her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H.
Holm. Mrs. Bryan was employed
in the Royal schools for several
years. She is now employed in
the Bremerton schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Storm
and son, Gary, returned Saturday
fom a trip to San Bernardino,
Calif., where they visited the El

to visit his father, Truman

neth was taken ill shortly after
arriving and was admitted to
Antelope Memorial hospital Sat
urday. Mrs. Kirby is employed
in the school at Sheridan where
she has taught many years. En
route to Royal, Mr. and Mrs.
Kirby visited Mr. and Mrs. Roy
McLain at Lusk, former Royal
residents.
Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hofer, Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford Herb and Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Mitteis went to
Sioux City Saturday night to see
the dog races.
Word has been received that
Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Burch
safely reached their home in
Kent, Wash. Deanna Anson ac
companied her aunt to Washing
ton to make a brief visit before
the opening of school in Norfolk
Junior college.
Mrs. Ozro Dean and two sons,
Ontario, Calif., and Mrs. Dean’s
mother, Mrs. A1 Dierking, Cham
bers, were in Royal Saturday af
ternoon calling on friends while
on the way to Wayne to visit
Mrs. William Pfeil, remembered
here as Agnes Feyerherm. Mrs.
Dean, Mabel Feyerherm to her
friends here, grew to maturity in
Royal and was graduated with
the class of 1937. Mr. Dean was
employed in the school here dur
ing the late 1930’s. Mrs. Dean at
tended school in Wayne where
she completed a normal training
course before her marriage. She
is now employed in the schools
at Ontario. Mr. Dean accompa
nied his family as far as Broken
Bow where he is visiting rela
tives. The family will return
home early in September.
Mr. and Mrs. Fremont Curtis
and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Odom at
tended a dinner and meeting at
the Steak House in Laurel Tues
day sponsored by a seed com
pany.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Curtis and
family, Hopkins, Minn., were re
cent guests of relatives in the
vicinity, including his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Curtis, and
also Mr. and Mrs. Fremont Cur
tis.

rived home Monday after visit
ing relatives in Des Moines, la.,
and Omaha.
Albert Lee Brady was an over
night guest at his grandparents,
the Lee Brady sr., home Tues
day night.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson

in honor of their daughter. Hazel

The public auction of household
goods of the late Arthur Waldman
was held Saturday afternoon in
Amelia. The house and lots were
purchased earlier by Sam Gilman.
Sam bought it for his niece, Mrs.
Ted Price, who in turn will make
it a home for her mother, Mrs.
Gertie Adair.
The school term began Monday
for many of the districts in the
vicinity. Jerald McClenahan,
Chambers, and Mrs. Orland Fry:
rear are teaching in the Amelia
school, Miss Arlis Edwards at
Swan Laken and Mrs. Harold Ful
lerton in the John Mohr jr. dis
trict.
Mr. and Mrs. Hale Kennedy,
Norfolk, spent their vacation with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernie
Kennedy, and Harold, and with
her relatives at Atkinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Parkins,
Dale and Elwood, Taylor, Mrs,
Hazel Hartman, Ravenna and Mr.
and Mrs. Gerald Collier and fam
ily, Arcadia, were Sunday dinner
guests at Tenus Madsens.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Waldo,
Cheyenne, Wyo., spent the week
end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. B. W. Waldo. Their daughter,
Judy, who has been visiting here
the past month, returned home
with them Monday.

day to take a load of household
goods for Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bai
ley. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey moved
to their new apartment in Om
aha Friday.

ise, Ida., and Chris Madsen, Bur
weli, visited at Tenus Madsens
Monday. Mr. Tileman lived in the
Amelia vicinity many years ago
and was well acquainted with the
late Rhody Adams.
Gale Fix and daughter, Sheila,
Soottsbluff, came Friday and vis
ited over the weekend with his
parents, the Elmer Fixs, and ot
her relatives. His sans, Gaylen
and Larry, who have spent the
summer here with their uncle,
Dean Prewitt and family, will re
turn home with him.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman went
to Denver last weekend and will
visit until after Labor Day with
their daughter, Mrs. Harold
Clausson. Mrs. Gilman’s sister,
Mrs. Craig Baker, also lives in
Denver.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees are
visiting their son, Bob Rees and
family, in Denver this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Forest Sammons
visited at Ernie Johnstons Tues
day morning. The Sammons left
early Wednesday morning for
their home at Kimberly, Ida.
Mrs. Frank Pierce called on
Mrs. Julia White Tuesday at her
home in Atkinson. Mrs. White’s
daughter, Mrs. Frank Brnddock,
Spearfish, S. I>., was also vis. mg

for their home in Manhattan,
Kan. They have been visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Link Sag
eser, and other relatives. His fa
ther, Link Sageser, has not oeen
feeling well.

Charlie left Monday morning for
their homes in California. They
have been here to visit relativ ;

of their father, the late Arthur
Waldman.

for her. Mrs. Baker was mar
ried Saturday to Ernest Lane.

Don Adams began his term
Wednesday as teacher in the Lone
Tree District northeast of Cham
bers.
Mrs. Maude Forbes helped in
her daughter’s, Mrs. Paul Briggs,
home during last week while the
Briggs were in the hayfield.
St. Joseph's Catholic church
held the annual smorgasbord at
Amelia Sunday evening. There
was a large crowd present.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce.

Festival at the Lutheran church
in Chambers Sunday.
Mrs. Bob Adair and infant
daughter, Jean Annette, returned
home Sunday from the Atkinson

home for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Schmit and

Colo., were dinner guests Monday
at Guy Blakes. They have been
here since Thursday with their
parents in Atkinson. Their son,
Gerald, has been here daring the
summer working in the haylield.
Mrs. Merril Smith, Atkinson,
and the former Barbara Zalud,
California, visited Mrs. Bob Kalb,
Tyler, Tex., Sunday morning at
the B. W. Waldo home. The wo
men were all classmate- when
attending Atkinson high school.
