A BOLT OF LIGHTNING Saturday evening was responsible lor the death of 23 head of hogs on the Frank Soukup farm one mile north and one mile west of the O’Neill Drive-In theatre. The hogs were found grouped around several metal hog feeders a short dis tance from the hog house. Terry P. Gallagher, son ol Mr. and Mrs. George C. Bergan, DD, will be at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic church September 20 when he will confirm about 60 boys and girls. The required instructions were started August 26 by the Rev. Charles J. Obomy, assisted by Mrs. Henry Vonasek. Four years ago. 82 candidates were in the confirmation class. Piersons' Daughter Is Guest on TV Program MEEK Mrs. Leon Cummins, Portland, Ore., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Pierson who live about 10 miles northeast of O’ Neill, appeared on the television program of “Truth or Con sequences” Tuesday morning. Mrs. cummins received a plane trip from Oregon to Cali fornia from the program spon sors, and was re-united on the program with her husband who is in the armed services at Fort McArthur, San Pedro, Calif. Larry Tangeman Accepts Chadron College Post CHAMBERS — Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Tangeman attended graduation exercises at Boulder, Colo., Saturday when their son. Larry Tangeman, received his doctor of education degree in school administration at the Uni versity of Colorado. He and his family have moved to Chadron where he has ac cepted the position as campus school director at State Teachers college there. Suffers Partial Loss Of Fingers in Mower CLEARWATER — Henry Sch lecht is in a Tilden hospital for treatment of three partially de stroyed fingers on his left hand. Pictures were taken of thie group, and the children enjoyed swimming at the pool and the park play equipment. Ice cream and a birthday cake baked in honor of Donna Forbes, were served later in the afternoon. The next meeting will be in 1962, the third Sunday in August at the Atkinson park. Relatives attended from Oma ha, Chambers, Lynch and O’ Neill. Nebraska and Colorado. Gerald Hawley Earns Masters Degree Aug. 17 Gerald Duane Hawley, football coach and instructor at O’Neill public schools, received his de gree of Master of arts at the summer quarter commencement of Colorado State college August 17. Hawley’s degree is in the field of physical education. He re ceived the bachelor of arts de gree from Huron college in 1955, and taught in the Burke, S. D., school system for two years be fore coming to O’Neill in 1959. He served two years with the IJ. S. Marine corps. Rites Held for Adam Stoural At Verdigre VERDIGRE — Funeral rites were held August 22 for Adam Stoural, 58, Verdigre, who died August 19 at Antelope Memorial hospital, Neligh. The services were conducted at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic church in Verdigre by the Rev. Charles J. Oborny. Burial was in the St. Wenceslaus cemetery. Adam Stoural was born at Ver digre December 14, 1902 on a farm three miles southeast of town. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stoural. On November 14, 1923 he was married to Mary Wesselman, Bonesteel. S. D. The couple moved to a farm a mile north west of the place of his birth where he and his family since resided. Survivors are his wife, Mary; two daughters, Mrs. Joe Jacot jr., and Mrs. Donald Stockholm, Akron, O.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Eugene Kosek, Verdigre, and two brothers, John, Verdigre, and William, Melba, Ida. Pallbearers were Willard Bar ta. Joe Hausman, Donald Kehn, Willard Stoural, Wayne Vakoc and Robert Walton. Thomas G. Hutton and family, Inman, left Monday for Vermil lion, Alberta, Canada, where Mr. Hutton has accepted a po sition as industrial art instruc tor in the Vermillion school di vision. Mr. Hutton has taught II years in Nebraska since graduating from Wayne State Teachers col lege, Wayne, in 1949. He taught in the Page, Chambers and Ew ing schools in Holt county dur ing that time. For the last sev eral years during the summer months, he was a seasonal ran ger in Glacier National park. Montana. Hatton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Hutton, Inman. Mrs. Hutton is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Russ. The Huttons have five children, Kay, 14, Tommy, 12, Mark and Bruce, twins, 6, and Tammie Sue, 22 months. Mrs. Townsend Named Prexy Of Holt WCTU Mrs. Dora Townsend was re elected president of the Holt County WCTU at a meeting held August 22 in the home of Mrs. Caroline Bates. Other officers elected are: Mrs. Ruth Wayman, vice presi dent: Mrs. Hazel Boatman, corresponding secretary, and Mrs. Goldie Stauffer, recording secretary. M r s.- Florence French installed t-he officers. Mrs. Goldie Stauffer, Mrs. Lila Loy and Mrs. Ruth Wayman are auditing committee mem bers. Departmental reports were pre sented preceding a covered dish luncheon. It was announced that Randall Stauffer is the winner in. the state essay contest. Mrs. Caroline Bates conducted a mem orial service in memory of Kate Snell. Nephew Is Killed in Three-Car Accident AMELIA — Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Fry rear, accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Spence, Atkinson, went to Holyoke, Colo., Saturday to attend funeral services for Mr. Fry rear's nephew, Ted (li neal. Wages. Colo. Mr. Oneal died from injuries received in a three-car accident near St. Joseph, Mo. Two cousins 1 of Mr. Oneal Mr. and Mrs. Bert Robbins, York, were killed in stantly in the accident. Home Economics Judging con tests were held in O’Neill August 22. Two from Verdigre Win FFA Trophies at Fair VERDIGRE — Ronald Pavilk and Larry Vitema of the Verdi gre FFA chapter, were winners of trophies awarded during the Knox County Fair at Bloomfield this past week. Pavlik was awarded the grand champion all crop entry. Vitema won the grand champion dairy award. Several entries have been submitted to the Nebraska State Fair which is being attended by the local FFA advisor, Ted D. Ward. Rollie Snell Honored As Oldest Present at Julius Family Reunion PAGE — Mr. and Mi's. Roy Stewart accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Dale Asher and son, Jim. to Custer. S. D., August 19 where they attended the reunion of the Julius family with 90 relatives in attendance. Rollie Snell, 89, Page, was the oldest person present. Relatives attended from South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming. Thirty relatives met Tuesday evening at Osage, Wyo., for a farewell visit before the Page vi sitors returned home. Services Held Sunday for F. M. Allemang CLEARWATER — Funeral rites were conducted here Sun day afternoon for Frederick M. Allemang, 90, who died in the Tilden hospital at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24. The Rev. D. L. Braunersreut her officiate! at the services in the Concordia Lutheran church. Burial was in the Clearwater cemetery. Frederick Michael Allemang was born April 14, 1871 to Henry and Marry Allemang at Sher rard, HI. He was married to Mary Spangler August 17, 1898 at Sioux City, la. They farmed in Wood bury county, Iowa until 1902 when they moved to a farm north of Clearwater. This farm was Mr. Allemang’s home for 57 years. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Mae Wagner, Beemer; one son, William, Clearwater; 10 grandchildren; 31 great grand children, and three sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Brehmer, Aledo, HI., Mrs. Henry Spangler and Mrs. Harvey Groves, both of Sher rard, 111. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Pallbearers were six grand sons, Merle, Hoel, Donny, Ted and Leon Allemang and Verdon Wagner. Roelle, a native of Litchfield, joined Consumers at York in November, 1957. A navy veteran, Roelle received his electrical en gineering degree in 1955 from the University of Nebraska. The Roelles are the parents of a daughter, Cynthia, 714, and a son. Curtis Wayne, nearly 4. Another transfer from the O’ Neill office will be that of James R. Batie jr., 26, a native of Chadron and single. Bade, who joined Consumers here following 1 his graduation from the Uni- 1 versity of Nebraska last June, is “ going to Columbus as rate en gineer. Moore, who will be coming here from York to replace Roel le, was reared and educated at Long Pine and awarded his electrical engineering degree from, Nebraska university. He joined Consumers at York in June, 1960. The Moores are par ents of two children. Emmet Students Will Register September 4 EMMET — Student registra tion will be held at the Emmet public school Monday, Sept. 4, and the first full day of school will be Tuesday, Sept. 5. Mrs. Harold Rodgers, O’Neill, will be the teacher for the lower grades, kindergarten through the fourth. Mrs. George Randol, At kinson, upper room teacher, will have the students in the fifth through the eighth grades. Ewing School Has an Enrollment of 218 EWING — Supt. G. D. Ryan announces that enrollment for the Ewing public school this fall is a total of 218, an increase over last year’s number. Two teachers were hired last week to complete the faculty of the Ewing school which opened Monday. They are Mrs. Shirley Jorgensen, North Loup, who will teach home economics, and Mrs. Leona Shoemaker, O’Neill, first and second grades. O'Neill Locals Tuesday visitors at the Sylves ter Zakrzewski home were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Philewes and fam ily of Omaha. Awarded Vacation Trip Tom Cronin, Safeway manager and his wife, Doris, returned Fri day night from an all-expense paid trip awarded him through his store winning candy sale con test. The Cronins traveled by plane from Norfolk to Kansas City, Mo., where they were en tertained for two days with one other couple. From there the group boarded a plane to Dallas. Attends Conference Miss Beverly McCarthy arrived in O’Neill Sunday after spending the past week in St. Paul, Minn., at a Communications Workers of America converence. She attend ed classes at the University of Minnesota with approximately 65 CWA members enrolled from a five-state area. These members are employees of Northwestern Bell Telephone company and ot her major communications indus tries. Visit at Lake Okoboji Mr. and Mrs. Mike Trupp re turned Sunday evening from a three-day stay at Oak Wood Lodge, Lake Okoboji, la., where they were guests, along with five other couples, of Monroe Manu facturing company and Sidles company. Mrs. Trupp returned to Norfolk in Mr. Sidles’ private plane. Their children, Toni and Kevin, stayed at the Louis Slay baugh home in Norfolk during their absence. Enters Convent Miss Jeanie Sullivan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sullivan, has left for Xavier, Kan., where she will enter the Sisters of Char ity convent.
