Exchange Vows
ATKINSON — Baskets of white
gladioli were used for altar deco
rations at the St. Joseph Catholic
church, Atkinson, when Miss Mar
garet Ries, Omaha, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ries, At
kinson, and Mel Roy Stracke, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Stracke,
Sfcuart, were united in marriage
Satlorday, Aug. 19.
The Rev. Richard J. Parr of
ficiated at the nuptial mass at
9:30 a.m. in the presence of 250
guests.
The bride was gowned in Chan
tilly lace and nylon tulle, fashion
ed with Sabrina neckline trim
med with iridescent sequins, and
long pointed sleeves. The bouffant
skirt over stiffened petticoats
featured scalloped lace panels in
front and back with tiers of tulle,
and extended to an aisle-wide
train. A coronet with matching
iridescent sequin trim held a
bouffant veil of illusion. Her bou
quet was of orchids and stepha
notis, and she carried a crystal
rosary.
Mrs. Del Ray Stracke, Omaha,
was matron of honor. Brides
maids were Miss Carol Ann Hen
ning and Miss Carol Jean Ries.
The attendants wore identical
ballarina length gowns of silk
chiffon in Nile green with scoop
necklines, cap sleeves and tuck
ed bodices with full billowy skirts.
They wore matching coronets and
veils, and carried colonial bou
quets of white gladioli.

Del Ray Stracke, Omaha, bro
ther of the bridegroom, served
as best man. Groomsmen were
Ronald Ries, Grand Forks, N. D.,
brother of the bride, and Doug
Cobb, Stuart. Ushering were Jack
Ries, Omaha, Marvin Scholz,
Stuart, Robert Henning and Bill
Lee.
Flower girls were Sheri Baum,
Omaha, and Cindy Petersen, O'
Neill. Serving mass were Bill Hen
ning and Greg Smith, Sioux City.
A dinner was held following the
ceremony and later in the after
noon, approximately 207 guests
were present for the reception in
the KC hall. The three-tier wed
ding cake was baked by Mrs.
Don Mills, decorated by Mrs.
Donald Gokie, and cut by Mrs.
Harlan Petersen, O’Neill. Miss
Carol Moeller, Stuart, and Mrs.
Don Dickau, Valley, poured. Miss
Bonnie Steskal, Omaha, had
charge of the guest book. Arrang
ing the gifts were Mrs. Dick Hen
ning, O’Neill, Mrs. Dean Gokie
and Mrs. Jerald Gordon, New
port.
The couple entertained friends
and relatives at a wedding dance
at the Stuart auditorium in the
evening.
The bride attended St. Joseph's
school, Atkinson, and the CE
School of Commerce, Omaha. She
has been employed as secretary
by the Royal Globe Insurance
company, Omaha.
Mr. Stracke attended Stuart
high school and Chadron State
Teachers college. He will be a
pre-medical student at the Omaha
university this fall.
After a short wedding trip they
will reside in Omaha.
Robson Reunion
Held at Norfolk
ORCHARD — One-hundred per
sons attended the annual reunion
of descendants of the late Mar
garet and Andrew Robson Sat
urday at Ta-Ha-Zouka park in
Norfolk.
Ray Ross, 84, Wayne, was the
oldest man present, and Mrs.
Frank Lisle, Dixon, was the old
est woman there. Zonyia, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Na
pier, Orchard, was the youngest
member .present.
The Annie Davidson family had
the largest number of relatives
present, and the Fred Carsten
family, Phoenix, Ariz., came the
longest distance.
The deaths of J. W. Mahood,
Orchard, and Robert Wickett,
Sioux City, la., were recorded.
Three marriages and seven births
were reported.
Business matters were conduct
ed by the president, Mrs. J. W.
Mahood. Officers elected for the
coming year are: Mrs. Marvin
Lawrence, Heron Lake, Minn.,
president; Mrs. Frank Lisle, Dix
on, vice president; Mrs. Clarence
Ross, Laurel, secretary and
treasurer.
Following dinner Ruth Ross.
Wayne, gave a resume of her
trip to Europe last year. Late in
the afternoon refreshments were
served with Richard Napier, Dale
Napier and Melvin Wertz in
charge.
The 1962 reunion will be held
the third Saturday in August,
same location.

Hershel Halstead
At Ainsworth
ATKINSON—Mrs. Irma Andrus
and Hershel Halstead, both of At
kinson, were united in marriage
at the Congregational church in
Ainsworth August 19 at 8:30 p.m.,
with the Rev. Gordon Jensen of
ficiating.
The bride’s attendant was Char
lotte Halstead, and Dean Prewitt
attended the bridegroom.
Others attending the wedding
were Mrs. Dean Prewitt, Mr. and
Mrs. Dick Henning, O’Neill, and
Bob Halstead, Bassett. The couple
entertained the guests at a dinner
following the ceremony.
After a short wedding trip the
couple will reside in Atkinson.
Mrs. Halstead will continue to
serve as a mail carrier. Mr. Hal
stead is employed by Heuton
Transfer.
Joan Grof Weds
Ralph Hoffman
At Omaha
ATKINSON—St. Cecelia’s cathe
dral, Omaha, was the scene of
the August 12 wedding of Miss
Joan Grof. and Ralph Hoffman,
both of Omaha. The Rev. Thomas
Furlong officiated at the cere
ony.
The parents of the bride, Mr.
and Mrs. Harvey J. Grof, Elk
horn. Ia., are former residents of
Atkinson. The bridegroom is the
son of Mrs. Raymond Hoffman.
Norfolk.
Sisters of the couple, the Misses
Doris Grof and Elaine Hoffman,
were maid of honor and brides
maid. Dennis Hoffman was best
man for his brother. Calvin Carl
son, Omaha, ushered.
After a reception at the Hun
garian Home, the couple left on
a trip to northern Iowa and Min
nesota. They will reside at 3318
Wright Street, Omaha.

marriage August 10 at the home
of his sister, Mrs. Bruce Jacobi.

ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi were at

After a dinner at the Town

Weds David Wright
In Catholic Rite
EWING — The wedding of Miss
Marcene Schmiser, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schmiser,
and David Wright, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Wright, all of
Ewing, was performed Saturday.
Aug. 19. at 10:30 a.m. in St.
John’s Catholic church.
Officiating at the double ring
ceremony was the Rev. Francis
E. Kubart. Soloist was Miss
Karen .Mlnarik, accompanied by
Miss Bonnie Kaczor, the organist.
The bride appeared in a floor
length gown of Chantilly lace and
nylon tulle. The satin bodice
featured a Sabrina neckline trim
med in sequins. Long tapered
sleeves ended in bridal points at
the wrists. The full skirt was de
signed with lace inserts over
satin and tiered net trimmed in
sequins which was worn over
hoops. Her elbow length veil of
net was held by a scalloped lace
and sequined headpiece. She car
ried a white prayer book
centered with red carnations and
streamers.
Miss Coralee Schmiser, Oma
ha, sister of the bride, was maid
of honor. A sister of the bride
groom, Mis. Stanley Bartos, O’
Neill, was bridesmaid. They
were attired in dresses of red
lace over taffeta featuring nylon
cummerbunds accented by nylon
bows and round necklines. They
wore satin headpieces covered
with net, and carried bouquets
of white carnations.
Joe John Thoendel, Lincoln,
was best man. Groomsman was
Fred Wright, brother of the
bridegroom Ushers were Owen
Schmidt and Stanley Bartos, O’
Neill.
Debby Schmiser, sister of the
bride was flovcer girl, and Sue
Shain was ring bearer. Mike
Schmiser, brother of the bride,
and Johnny Burk were mass
servers. ,
A wedding dinner following the
ceremony was attended by ap
proximately 200 guests in the
church parlors. Miss Betty
Wright was in charge of the
guest book. The Misses Donna
Wright, Mary Jane Muff,
Kathlene Funk and Linda Schmi
ser arranged the gifts.
The couple will reside on a
ranch near Ewing.

Betty Hornback has returned
from Mountain View, Calif.,
where she visited two weeks with
her brothers, John and Lyle, and
family. Lyle’s son, Alan, return
ed home with her after spending
the summer with his grandpar
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Horn
back.

Miss Theresa Pribil, who is to
be married to Herman Ackman.
August 28. was honored at two
p re-nuptial showers recently. One
was held in the home erf Mrs. Ray
Dendinger at which time Miss
Betty Jo Turner assisted by Mrs.
Pat Jacques, recorded the gifts.
The second shower was held in
the home of Mrs. Frank Meis,
Elgin. Mrs. Dick Ackman and
Mrs. Jim Meis were associate

Family Reunion Held
Mr. and Mis. William McIntosh
and family attended the Whitia
family reunion in Meadow Grove
August 13. The affair was held
in the Gordon McIntosh resi
dence. Guests attended from Cal
ifornia, Wyoming, Illinois and
Nebraska.
Discuss Electricity
The Electro-Motive Eagle Hust
lers 4-H division met at the Art
Grass home August 7. Five of the
six members were present and
they discussed fuses and fustats.
The boys taking tractor lessons
went over their duscussion of lub
rication and oil. Lessons were as
signed in the project books for
the next meeting August 21 at the
Harold Melcher home August 21.

Eagle Hustlers 4-H Meets
The Dairy Division of the Eagle
Hustlers 4-H club met at the
Marvin Stauffer home August 10.
The meeting was called to order
by president Virginia Sojka at
8 p.m. Roll call was answered by
naming a breed of a horse. All
but two of the members were
present.
After the business meeting a
discussion was held on trucking
calves to the fair. The matter
of getting calves sheared was
then discussed and it was decid
ed that each member be respon
sible for shearing his own ani
mals. Lunch was served. Rent
er, Kent Stauffer.
Mrs. Berger Honored
Mrs. Richard Minton jr. and
Mrs. Fritz Hershiser, had a post
nuptial shower at the Hershiser
home for Mrs. Martin Burger.
Twenty guests were present. She
received many gifts. Mrs. Burger
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Miles.

Robertson Descendants
All of the living children of the
late John A. and Rachel R. Rob
ertson, prominent pioneer resi
dents of the community, will get
together for a family reunion at
the ‘Sam Robertson farm, 15
miles north of O’Neill Monday,
Aug. 28.

ha, left Tuesday after visiting
since Thursday in the home of

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Verzal and
family left Sunday morning for a
week’s vacation in the Black
Hills. Their son, Skip, who has
been working at Kimball, met
them at Valentine to accompany
them on the vacation.

Theresa Schelkopf went to Ains
worth Sunday to visit Leander
Drueke and family.
Larry Donlin, Larry Tomlinson
and Matt Beha jr. attended the
Shrine football game in Lincoln
Saturday. Tomlinson played in
the first Shrine game three years
ago.
New Members Honored
Members of the WSCS of the
O’Neill Methodist church met re
cently in the church basement.
Mrs. Roy Wayman presided over
the business meeting. Mrs. Nor
man Wayman and Mrs. Norman
Hesson were honored as new
members this past year. Mrs.
Van Nice was a guest. Mrs.
Hazel Boatman was in charge of
devotions and Mrs. Robert Em
bree had the program on “A
Council of Churches”. Mrs. Nor
man Hesson and Mrs. John Enke
served a dessert luncheon. The
next meeting will be September
7 in the church basement.

Honored At
Birthday Party
Mr. and Mrs. William Morgan
jr. entertained at a barbecue
party at their ranch home west
of Atkinson last Sunday night in
honor of the birthday of their
son, Harold. Present were the
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Smith and Mr. and Mrs. William
Morgan sr., all of Atkinson, and
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Davis, O'
Neill. Cake and ice cream climax
ed the special evening party.

games and group singing. Picnic

Exchange Vows
Miss Elaine Miller, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Miller, and
Fred R. Snowardt jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Fred R. Snowardt, were
united in marriage August 5 ft
10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic
church, O’Neill.
Performing the double ring
ceremony and nuptial mass was
the Rev. Robert Duffy. The
Misses Theresa, Frances and He
len Boyle provided traditional
wedding music, accent pan ic'd by
Mrs. John McCarville.
The bride was attired in a full
length gown of bridal tulle over
net and taffeta. The bodice fea
tured a Chantilly lace scalloped
Sabrina neckline dotted with se
quins, and long bridal sleeves.
The bouffant skirt was designed
with three wide tiers cf tulle, the
top tier accented by scalloped
Chantilly lace. Her double veil of
French illusion was caught by a
headpiece trimmed with sequins
and pearls. She carried a white
prayer book centered with a
white orchid with a crystal rosary
entwined.
Miss Jo Ann Shoemaker was
maid of honor, and Mrs. Laroy
Reugge was bridesmaid. They
wore identical gowns, ballerina
length, of blue nylon chiffon with
high necklines and gathered at
the shoulders. The fitted bodices
souri, Kansas, Colorado and Ne
braska. They were also Sunday
callers at the home of Mrs. Don
aldson's brother and sister-in-law.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Colfack anti
Dennis. The Donaldsons left Mon
day for their home and were ac
companied by Mr. and Mrs. Nels
Colfack, who will spend some
time visiting in Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Forbes, Ft.
Collins, Colo., came Wednesday
to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis Forbes, and her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith, and
other relatives and friends. The
Forbes will visit in and around
Atkinson for a week before re
turning home. When they return
they will be accompanied by their j
son, Gerald, who has spent the
summer here with relatives.

and Kurt went to Lincoln Sunday j

held at the Nebraska Wesleyan

been spending a few days in At
kinson visiting her son and daugh
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred
Kazda and friends in the Atkinson
area.
Mr. and Mrs. I. J. VanWey and
son, George, Ralston, -were Sun
day afternoon callers at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. William Wefso.
They were enroUte to Ainsworth
where they visited Mrs. VanWey’s
brother, Connie Callaway. The
VanWeys returned to Atkinson
Monday evening where they were
dinner and overnight guests of the
Wefsos. On Tuesday they spent
some time fishing and then re
turned to Omaha.

which was cut and served by
Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Adolf Wetzler,
Verdigre, poured coffee and Miss
Sharon Marcellus served punch.

Mr. Snowardt graduated from
St. Mary’s academy .and is pres
ently serving with the US Navy
in Southern California where the
couple is residing following a
wedding trip to the Black Hills.
Omaha, spent a few days last
week with Mrs. Huse’s cousin,
Barbara Mlinar, and other rela
tives in and around Atkinson.
They returned to their home Sun
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Funk, Clear
water, were Sunday dinner guests
of their daughter, Mrs. Kenneth
Ziska and family in Atkinson.
When the Funks returned home,
they were accompanied by their
granddaughter, Sheila Ziska, who
will spend a week with her grand
parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Ziska and
family, O’Neill, spent Sunday
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs
Charles Ziska.
