Mahlin Secretary 17-18c -- Amelia News By Miss Florence Lindsey Mother Has Surgery in Council Bluffs Mrs. Vem Sageser went to Council Bluffs, la., Wednesday to be with her mother, Mrs. E. L. Minter, who was to have major surgery at Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs Friday morning. Mrs. Sageser phoned home Fri day evening to say Mrs. Minter came through the operation satis factorily. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Sam mons and Duane. Kimberly, Ida., returned home the early part of this week. They have spent the past week visiting his mother, Mrs. Bertha Sammons, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Miller. Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bo ward, Cortland, came Wednesday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Tom Doolittle and other relatives. Judy and John Withers have been visiting their father, Cap Withers in Atkinson the past few weeks. They all came to Amelia Wednesday to visit their old home and old friends. Judy’s girl friend from Missouri ac companied them. They expect to be in their home in Darlington. Mo., for the school term. Mrs. Art DeWolf and Sue, North Loup, and Mrs. Jim Hol mes. Arcadia, visited their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thomp son Wednesday. Mrs. Emma Bacon and daugh ter, Velma, Oakland, Calif., vi sited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thomson. Mrs. Bacon is Mrs. Thompson’s mother. Vel ma, who is a telephone operator in Oakland, is her sister. Mrs. Ivan Roth and family, Valentine, visited Thursday at the home of her brother. Marvin Doolittle and family. They all attended the Chambers fair. Rev. and Mrs. B. Kalb, Kathy, Kurt and Karla, Tyler, Tex., vi sited from Friday until Wednes day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo, and her brother, Lloyd Waldo and family; also her sister, Mrs Ken Wer ner, Chambers Mrs. Delbert Edwards and Mrs. Art Doolittle were among the guests at a party at Mrs. Blaine Garwood’s Friday. Mrs. Emma Bacon and Velma Bacon, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Leon Thompson visited the Lind seys Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wehland and family, Holdrege, visited at the Ernie Johnston home over Sunday and Monday. Their son, Richard, who has been helping at the Johnstons during the summer, will accompany then home. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Burge, Robert, Bruce and Joyce left Saturday for Edmonds, Okla., to spend a week visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Dickerson and Frank. Mrs. Dickerson is the former Lois Burge. Clayton Burge is doing chores at the Clyde Burges while they are on vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Anton Svatos and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sva tos and David attended a family reunion of the Svatos families at Niobrara State park Sunday. Mrs. Ray Gartner, Sherry and Charles, Lincoln, visited her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Doolittle, the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Marcellus, Montebello, Calif., and Mrs. Emmett Carr, Santa Monica, Calif., visited their aunt, Mrs. Delia Ernst, and the Edgar Petersons during the past week. Mrs. Ralph Adair, Allen and Dick and Mrs. Bill Sammons, Mark and Tommie visited Mrs. Gertie Adair Friday evening while the men attended an agri cultural meeting at the school house. Mr. and Mrs. Link Sageser who were both hospitalized in the O’Neill hospital for several days were able to return home Saturday. Their son and daugh ter-in-law, Dr. anti Mrs. Bower Sageser, Manluittan, Kans., are with them. The Svatos hay crew finished haying for Frank Pierce Thurs day afternoon of last week. Mrs. Gene Hansen’s mother, Mrs. Rose Monahan, was able to be brought home from Omaha and is in the Atkinson hospital. Her hip was not broken as we previously reported, but she did receive an injured pelvic bone. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bailey re turned Friday from a few days in Omaha. They will live in Oma ha this year where Mrs. Bailey will teach school, and Mr. Bailey will attend school at Blair. Mrs. Oscar Sybrant and son, Roger, and granddaughter, Maxine, Casper, Wyo., were overnight guests Tuesday at the Oscar Peterson home. They were enroute to Independence, Mo., to attend the graduation ex ercises for Mrs. Sybrant’s daughter, lone, who will gradu ate from nurses training. Mrs. Sybrant is a sister of Edgar and Oscar Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Doolittle spent the weekend visiting at Princeton and Cortland with the Doolittle relatives and at Fre mont with Mrs. Doolittle’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Skala, and the Gene Doolittles. Rodney, Ricky and Timmy Doolittle stayed with their paternal grand mother, Mrs. Elsie Doolittle, Stuart, and Jimmie Doolittle was at Marvin’s home. Mrs. Florence Knupp, Coquil le, Ore., is visiting her sister, Mrs. Arthur Hiatt. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo and fami ly and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kalb and family, Tyler, Tex., were dinner guests Sunday at the Ken Werner home at Chambers.
