Debit News By Mm. H Miner Rain and Wind Here The best news this week is that we had almost two inches of rain Thursday evening. However it was accompanied by strong winds that blew some of the corn over and many tree limbs were blown to the ground. Some of the oats was still to be harvested. The telephone has been out since the storm. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Neider heide and family, Pierson, Mich., have been visiting relatives and friends in this community. Mrs. Glenn Harpster spent Thursday afternoon at the Hen ry Reimer home. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tom jack returned home from Omaha Mon day. Mrs. Fred Harpster, Mrs. Glenn Harpster and Terry and Mrs. H. Reimer called at the Roy John son home in Neligh Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pahl and Mary, Oakland, spent the week end with relatives here. Waldo Davis has been carry ing the mail for two weeks while Charles Rotherham and family were on vacation. Harvesting and haying are al most done and many are plan ning trips and vacations before school starts in August. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Bartak vis ited Mrs. Alice Lodge in the Carl Munson home in Norfolk Thurs- i day. Mrs. Lodge’s condition was unchanged. There were over three inches «rf rain north and also east of here on Thursday. Water ran over the roadgrade in plac<*s. Mr. and Mrs. H. Reimer were guests at the Don Starr home in West Point last week. Island to meet the bus enroute to J Ft. Dix, N. J., where he expects 1 to ship out for overseas duty ’ somewhere in Europe. Richard (Bud) has spent the past two weeks visiting his parents and friends in and around Atkinson and has recently re-enlisted for six years. This is his second en istment. He was accompanied to Kearney by his sister, Mona, who will visit in the Butterfield home for a week or 10 days. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roberts drove to Butte and were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Geo Schneider. They were ac companied by Mrs. Robert’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nilson. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tooker and Bobbie and Susie, Broken Bow, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Claude Humphrey, and other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. John Tooker and Kathy and Karen left Tuesday after visiting his mother, Mrs. Claude Humphrey, and other re latives in Atkinson. They were enroute to their home in Denver after vacationing many points along the eastern coast. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Weller re turned Monday evening after be ing in Omaha on business. Mrs. Doris O’Connell. Celia Backhaus and Mrs. Leonard Jung man returned home Friday from Blair where they have been at tending the last three week ses sion of summer school at Dana College. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Spann went to Omaha last Friday on busi-1 ness. Mrs. N. Snyder left by plane' from Omaha June 25 for Pitts burg. Penn., where she visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Snyder and family. Mrs. Snyder then accompanied her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leo Snyder and son, Robert and Mrs. Stevens' mother. Mrs. Ro bert Hamilton, whom Mrs. Ste vens is taking to her home in Santa Monica, Calif. They ar- ( rived in Atkinson July 25 and j visited in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stevens and family. They left July 27 enroute to Cali fornia. Francis Anderson, Cheyenne. Wyo., visited Monday with Mr. and Mrs. John Mohr sr. in At kinson. Francis is a cousin of John Mohr. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stethem and family of Burwell visited with her aunt, Mrs. William Wefso, Mon day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. George Randol and Mona Rae drove to Ponca Sunday and spent the day visit ing George’s father. O. G. The Cunninghams are enroute to the Oilare Intcrnatioiuil air port in Chicago, III., where Sgt. Cunningham will spend the next four months as an instruc tor. Sister Godiesia, Osmond and her sister, Mrs. Joe Bruening, 9t. Helena, spent a few days last week visiting their brother and sister-inlaw, Mr. and Mrs. G. Schneider and family in Atkinson. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Schnei der took them to Elgin where they will spend a few days with another sister, Mrs. Lee Kluthe, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McClurg were Sunday evening visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lofquest north of Stuart. The two couples drove to the White Horse Ranch cafe for an outing and refresh ments. Enroute home they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Tien ken and Henry near Naper. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bonenber ger, Jean and Joan spent Satur day in Omaha.
