Games, appropriate for the occasion, provided enter tainment and were in charge of Mrs. Stanley Bartos. Assisting with the gifts were Mrs. Delbert Carl jr. and the Misses Vera Del and Sherry Daniels. Mrs. Kittle Fry spent Sunday at the Otto Retke home at In man. Mrs. John Blumel and daugh ters, Omaha, visited one day last week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Krachie. Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Jefferies took their daughter, Mrs. John Blumel and children back to their home in Omaha Sunday after they had spent a two-week vaca tion with them. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tucker and Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Harris at tended the second WWI veterans picnic held at the Atkinson city park Sunday. A picnic dinner was served at noon. The afternoon program opened at 1:30, to which the public, WW II and Korean veterans were invited. A large crowd was in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eacker returned home Saturday from Sioux City, la., where they had been overnight guests at the home of their daugtner, Mrs. Gene Ruby and family. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Parks, Ger ing, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parks sr., Stuart, were guests Saturday at the Harold Parks jr. home. Morris Parks, O’Neill, visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parks jr. and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hahlbeck and Sherry went to Camp Fon tanelle Sunday to get their daugh ter, Kay, and Candace Kirsch mier, who had spent the week there. Mrs. C. C. Hahlbeck and her mother, Mrs. Maud Boies, ac companied them to Pilger where they spent the day with Mrs. Lena Kirschmier, a former neigh bor of them while she lived in Ewing. Mrs. Ed Hoag stayed at the C. C. Hahlbeck home with Mrs. Larsen and Sarah Holman who are being cared for there. Mr. and Mis. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Cloyd re turned home Sunday from Om aha where they had spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. George Timmerman, a patient at the University Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hamilton and daughter, Bona, Creighton, visited Friday rit the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sturbaum had as their guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Allan Pollock, their daugh ter, Mrs. Bob Crosby and fam ily, Omaha, Norman Pollock, Redwood, Calif., Mrs. Fern Pol lock and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pollock and family of Ewing. Mrs. Martha Hill spent the weekend at Newman Grove visit ing friends. High winds and rain Thurs day evening damaged trees anti power lines leaving the village of Ewing in darkness for a few hours. Repairs were made by crewmen and the power was on again about 10 p.m. Ewing received .93 inches of rain while surrounding areas gave unofficial re=port; of one inch or more. Trees were damaged at several homes in Ewing and lawns again were covered with twigs and small branches. Mr. and Mrs. George Kraus, Lakeworth, Fla., were guests the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sis Ebbengaard. They are neighbors of the Ebbengaards at their Florida home. Mr. and Mrs. Ebbengaard, Mr. and Mrs. Kraus and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stevens, Clearwater, spent July 23 at Fort Randall and Gavins Point. A picnic dinner was en joyed. On Wednesday the Ebben gaards and Krauses went to Co lumbus to attend the races. Mrs. Ed Urban and daughter, Mrs. Alfreda Pruden and family, were O’Neill visitors Thursday. John Thiele sr., is a patient in an Omaha hospital where he was taken last week. Mrs. Thiele is staying in Omaha with her hus band but spent the past weekend at home. Elkhorn Valiey Home Extension club met Wednesday with Mrs. Adrian Sabotka. Mrs. Lyle Med calf, president, called the meet ing to order and opened it with the club creed. Mrs. Melvin Ja cobsen acted as secretary and treasurer in the absence of Mrs. Lawrence Schnabel. Roll call was answered by each telling of an embarrasing moment while enter taining. Business of the day in cluded a vote on whether they would have a booth at the coun ty Fair. The vote was no. The annual family picnic was discuss ed and final plans made. Mrs. Medcalf reminded the members of the coming state convention in Lincoln in September. Follow ing the business Mrs. Jacobsen gave the handicraft lesson on Christmas decorations. Lunch was served to eight members and two visitors. YML club met Thursday with Mrs. Charles Curtright for a pot luck picnic. Mrs. Orval Hank!a conducted the business meeting. A discussion was held on ar ranging the winter card parties. Otficers were elected. Mrs. Ileen Schmitz was elected president; Mrs. Charles Curtright, Secre tary and Treasurer and Report er. Dues were discontinued for the coming year. The first party will be held in October with Mrs. Schmitz and Mrs. Robert Middle ton as hostesses. After adjourn ment a picnic was enjoyed. Members of the Elkhorn Valley home Extension club and the r families enjoyed the annual pic nic at the park in O’Neill Sun day. Dinner was held at noon af ter which swimming and visit ing were enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lindberg and four boys, Los Angeles, Calif., visited relatives here over the weekend. On Friday evening they and Mr. and Mrs. Emery Carey were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Curtright. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Luben were also callers and the Lindbergs were overnight guests of the Curt rights. On Sunday they were din ner guests in the William Lu ben home and that evening were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Carey. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hemenway were guests also of the Careys and the Lindbergs were overnight guests in the Car ey home. Mrs. Lindberg is the former Mary Hemenway, daugh ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mer ritt Hemenway. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Hoffman and family moved Sunday from the Frances Schuster property in the northeast part of town to the Elizabeth Stevens home two doors north. Mrs. Stevens will reside in her newly re medied home in the west part of town. Newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Peterson, will occu py the Schuster house. Walter Anderson is a patient in a Scottsbluff hospital where he was confined July 22. Mr. and Mrs. Don Luben re turned to their home in Weeping Water Friday after visiting friends and relatives here the past several days. Timmy Brandt of Neligh went to Weeping Water and will visit the Lubens until next weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hubei and daughters were Friday night guests in the Melvin Jacobsen home. Mrs. Glen Lau and children. Omaha, are spending a couple of weeks at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McGee. The annual Luben Patras pic nic is to be held Sunday in the park in Neligh. The Dale Raasch fam ily visited Friday afternoon at the Art Busshardt home in Ne ligh, returning to their home in Omaha that night.
