Miss Beverly Cihlar, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cihlar,
Verdigre, became the bride of
tEarl R. Miller, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Miller, O’Neill, in a
5:30 p.m. candlelight service
Sunday, July 30, in the Christ
Lutheran chuch. O’Neill.
Performing the service was the
Rev. A. S. Gedwillo. Mrs. Frank
Cernousek presented vocal ar
rangements, accompanied by
Miss Janet Krugman at the or
gan.
The bride appeared in a floor
length gown of Calais lace over
ruffles of contoured nylon net
on fine Italian silk. It was de
siged with high lace banded neck
line, and sleeves which ended in
points at the wrists. Her veil of
silk French illusion was attach
ed to a Victorian crown. She
carried a floral arrangement of
yellow roses and white carna
tions. For something traditional
ly old, the bride wore a small
bracelet of her grandmother’s,
Mrs. Cihlar, which was over 50
years old.
Miss Ardee Block, Erie, Penn.,
was maid of honor and she was
attired in a white sheer eyelet ov
er yellow taffeta dress with
matching accessories. Brides
maids were Mrs. John Christ,
Corvallis, Ore., sister of the
bridegroom, and Miss Carolyn

Walker, Grand Island. They wore
dresses styled identically to that
of the maid of honor, encept in
aqua shades. Their flowers were
large white mums with ribbons
corresponding to the shade of
their dresses.
Harold Miller, O’Neill, bro
ther of the bridegroom, served
as best man. Wallace Cihlar,
Verdigre, brother of the bride,
and Dale Beilin, O’Neill, were
groomsmen. Seating the guests
were Melvin Miller, Niobrara,
brother of the bridegroom, and
Floyd Kinnison, Verdigre.
Sherie Cihlar, Verdigre, was
flower girl, and Randy Christ,
Corvallis, Ore., was ring bear
er. - —
At the reception following the
ceremony, the wedding cake was
cut by Mrs. John Kain, Quemo,
Kan., and Mrs. Ted Kinnison.
Verdigre. The coffee was poured
by Mrs. Bill Touchey, Erie,
Penn. Miss Patty Dittrick kept
the guest book, and the gift ta
ble was arranged by Mrs. Wal
lace Cihlar and Mrs. Dale Bei
lin. Serving the bride’s table were
the Misses Annette Uhlir and El
len Dryak. Assisting with re
freshments were Mesdames Fred
Timmerman, Ben Miller, M. E.
Davis, Alfred Cernousek. Paul
Cihlar and Freeman Arbo.
The bride attended school in
the Verdigre public high school,
and Mr. Miller attended O’Neil]
public high school. He presently
is engaged in farming near O’
Neill.

Weds Frank Yockey
At Cedar Bluffs
ATKINSON — Miss Virginia
Marie Thurlow, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. LeRoy Thurlow, Cedar
Bluffs, and Frank Yockey, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Yockey, Fre
mont, were united in marriage
Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Presby
terian church in Cedar Bluffs in a
7:30 p.m. ceremony.
The Rev. Walter Millett offi
ciated at the services. Tradition
al wedding music was provided
by Ronald Millett. soloist, ac
companied by Mrs. Vivian
Vaughn Atkinson.
The bride was attired in a rose
point lace and nylon gown styled
with a fitted bodice with a scal
loped neckline which was en
crusted with iridescent sequins
and seed pearls. The sleeves were
long and mae to points at the
wrist. The full graceful lace skirt
over net came to small points
and fell to floor length. Her veil
was of white nylon, fingertip
length, held by a crown. She car
ried Sweetheart roses on a white
Bible.
Mrs. Wayne Root. Atkinson,
was matron of honor. Mrs. Gay
lord Enynort, Amarillo, Tex., was
bridesmaid. They wore waltz
length taffeta gowns, the former’s
in blue, and the latter in white.
Their bouquets were of carna
tions.
Sherman Thurlow, brother of
the bride, served as best man.
Groomsman was Wayne Root, At
kinson. Robert Dahl and Lyle
Peterson, both of Fremont, were
ushers.
The Misses Veronica Thurlow
and Jacqueline Thiel. Cedar
Bluffs, were candlelighters.
One hundred guests attended
the reception in the church par
lors following the ceremony. Mes
dames Wilmer Lickenburg, Roma
Schere and Leroy Settles were in
charge of the reception. Miss
Janet Villwalk and Miss Ar
lene Anderson were in charge
of the gift table and Miss
Sandy Cockran managed the
guest book. Serving the bride’s
table were the Misses Karen Wild,
Marcia Moody and Sandra Soder
ling. Waitresses were the Misses
Rosella Lickenburg, Sheryl Mc
Cauley, Linda Peterson, Rita Wit
tmerhouse and Barbara Lubker.
The couple is at home at 433

Exchange Vows
CHAMBERS—Miss Bonita Wolf,
Ord, and Charles Cox jr., Bro
ken Bow, were united in marri
age at the Chambers Methodist
church at 3 p.m. Sunday, July
30, in the presence of the im
mediate family.
The bridegroom is the son of
the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Cox,
Chambers and his father perform
ed the ceremony before an altar
decorated with seasonal flowers
arranged by Mrs. Herman Hol
comb.
The bride apeared in a white
brocaded dress and carried a bou
quet of pink and white gladioli.
Her attendant, Mrs. Bill Cox,
Lincoln, wore a pale green dress
and carried a bouquet of gladioli.
Bill Cox attended the bride
groom.
Following the ceremony the
group returned to the parsoaage
for refreshments.
The couple left on a short trip
and after their return will make
their home in Broken Bow, where
Mr. Cox is manager of the Ro
man Motor Freight terminal.

Weds G. Stowell
A double ring ceremony was
performed July 23 at the First
Methodist church here uniting in
marriage Miss J. Barbara Not
son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Notson, Shenandoah, la.,
and Gary D. Stowell, son of Mr.
and Mrs. R. A. Stowell, O’Neill.
Performing the ceremony at 3
p.m. was the Rev. Glenn Kenni
cott. Miss Susan Burney was so
loist, and was accompanied by
Miss Janet Krugman at the or
gan.
The bride chose a white chif
fon street length dress with lace
jacket. Her veil was of fingertip
length. She carried white car
nations on a white Bible.
Miss Donna Notson, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor.
Miss Peggy Notson, also a sister
of the bride, and Miss Dixie Dun
can, Waterloo, were bridesmaids.
Their dresses were of eyelet,
street length, and were in shades
of white, pink and yellow, res
pectively. They carried ivy heart
shaped bouquets with carnations
in the center to match their dress
colors.
Dick Laursen served as best
man. Groomsmen were Darrell
Clyde and Dean Larson. Bob Eby
and Curt Larson seated the
guests.
Miss Vickie Schindler, Omaha,
was flower girl, and Mike Carl
son, Essex, la., was ring bearer.
Candlelighters were Marilyn and
Larry Davis. Following the cere
mony a reception was attended
by 100 guests in the church base
ment. Mrs. Rex Stowell and Miss
Nancy Rice poured. Mrs. Earl
Carlson and Mrs. Wade Davis cut
and served the wedding cake.
Arranging the gifts were Miss
Peggy Sullivan and Mrs. Lois
Notson.
The bride attended Shenandoah
high school, and has been em
ployed as secretary for the North
western Bell Telephone company.
Mr. Stowell is a graduate of O’
Neill high school.
After November 1 the couple
will be at home in O’Neill.

Punch Recipe Given
Members of the Meet Thy
Neighbor club met in the Charles
Boyle home July 26 at which
time roll call was answered by
presenting punch recipes. Eight
members and three guests were
present. Following the playing of
games, lunch was served. The
next meeting will be August 23
with Mrs. Dorothy Pribil.
ATKINSON — These 30 youngsters are attending story hour which is conducted each Saturday af
ternoon at the Atkinson Township Library by the local librarian. Mrs. Donald Davis. Ninety-four boys
and girls are presently enrolled in the summer reading course. The story hour has been conducted for a
number of years and has had a large attendance since its beginning.

Mrs. Irene Booth and her son

left Wednesday morning for Buf
falo, N. Y., where they will spend
three weeks visiting Mrs. Booth’s
daughter, Mrs. Joan Carpenter.
Tony Kevin, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Mike Trupp, is visit
ing in the home of her aunt, Mrs.
Peg Martins, and glandmother,
Mrs. Jewell Campbell, in Omaha.
Her parents will go to Omaha
Sunday to bring her home fol
lowing her three-week visit. Over
the past weekend Mr. and Mrs.
John Trupp, Hastings, were
guests in the home of their son,
Mike Trupp. A recent visitor in

a recent bridal shower in the
new Catholic church basement.
Seventy guests were present. Mrs.

book to Miss Courtney, and also

Miss Mary Margaret Slattery,
Omaha, daughter of Thomas G.
Slattery, Atkinson, and Jerry Mc
Kay, Scotia, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Lyle McKay, Lincoln, was per
formel in St. Joseph’s Catholic
church in Atkinson July 29 at
10:30 a.m.
Performing the ceremony was

communion rail. Traditional wed
ding music was played.
. A gown of silk organza over
taffeta was worn by the bride,
and was fashioned with a Bateau
neckline, narrow all-over bias
tucked bodice and elbow sleeves.
The voluminous circular skirt bel
lowed into a cotillion train at the
back. She carried a cascade bou
quet of white glamellias.

Walz, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Walker, Omaha, Miss Barbara
Davis, Omaha, Mrs. Thomas

in crystal. A Bateau neckline and
brief sleeves contoured the taut
basque. A minute cuff of self
material circled the normal waist
line bowing itself at the back,
high above the triple tunic sheath
skirt which ended at street
length. They carried baskets of
stock.
Jim Bishop, Curtis, served as
bestman. Ushers were Tom, Jim
and Bill Slattery, Omaha, bro
thers of the bride, and Robert
McKay, Lincoln, brother of the
bridegroom.
Miss Cheryll Brown, Lincoln,
was flower girl.
A brunch was served following
the ceremony, and at the recep
tion in the Knights of Columbus
hall, there were 200 guests pre
sent.
The bride is a graduate of St.
Joseph’s high school, Atkinson,
and the College of St. Mary,
Creighton university. The past
year she has been teaching in
District 66.
Mr. McKay is a graduate of
Teacher’s high school, and the
University of Nebraska. He is
contracted as a coach and teach
er by the North Loup-Scotia pub
lic schools.
August 6 they will return from
a wedding trip to Colorado. The
couple will be at home in Scotia
after September 1.
Plant Pressers Made
Doug Roberts gave a demon
stration on making a plant press,
and Wynn Roberts showed how
to press plants at the Up and At
It 4-H club meeting Friday at the
Lawrence Dobrovolny ranch. Ro
bert George showed how to iden
tify leaves. Larry Dobrovolny
showed his cow and calf to the
members. The girls judged
aprons. Lunch was served. Re
porter, Annette George.
Miss Honke Feted
BUTTE — A large group at
tended the shower given Thurs
day evening in honor of Miss
Diane Honke in the Butte Legion
hall. Hostesses were Mesdames
Dick Rosgren, Don Quick, Her
man Schultz, Paul Honke, Mary
Berg and Gerald Schmitz. The de
corations were by Mrs. Quick and
Mrs. Newell Schroeder. Enter
tainment was furnished by Mes
dames Schultz, Owen Johnson,
William Tiefenthaler, Edward
Koenig and Ray Riesselman.

LYNCH — A miscellaneous
shower was neld at the Scottville
schoolhouse Sunday for Miss Dor
is Hrbek, given by Mesdames
Guy Kepler, Joe Hrbek and Joe
Madura. About 45 guests were
present. Games were played and
a mock wedding was presented
by Mesdames Frank McDonald,
Eld Krugman and Guy Pinkerman.
Vocal selections were given by
the daughters of Mr. and Mrs.'
Fred Minarek, Verdigre.
Bridge Club Meets
Members of the BBC met July
26 at the home of Mrs. Norman
Hesson. In the playing of bridge,
prizes were won by Mrs. Edward
Scbmit, and Mrs. Gil Poese, a
guest of the club. Refreshments
were served at the close of the
evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gokie and
Helen have returned from a
three week trip to the west coast.
While in Portland they were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Uhl
and Mr. and Mrs. Don Donohoe.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Asher of
Omaha came Monday to visit his
mother, Mrs. Ann Asher. Mr.
Asher returned to Omaha Wed
nesday and his wife remained
for a longer visit.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Appleby en
tertained several guests at a
cook out at the Kelly home Tues
day evening.

A wedding shower was given
by Mrs. Frank Froelich, Mrs. Guy
Cole, anl Mrs. Ed Gallagher for
Mary E. Gatz, Saturday after
noon at the home of Mrs. Gal
lagher. Thirty-five guests were
present. Miss Gatz will be mar
ried in Omaha.
Celebrates Birthday
Tamela Kay Cleveland, daugh

land, celebrated her first birth
day, Tuesday, at her Grandpar
ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cleve
land.

Sullivan Returns Home
Jack Sullivan, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Sullivan, received his
discharge from San Diego Naval
Base and returned home Wednes
day. He will visit with his mo
ther and sister for the time be
ing and then plans to attend
Wayne State Teachers college.
Reunion in Columbus
The Hynes families held a fam
ily picnic and reunion Sunday at
the Pawnee park in Columbus.
Around 40 members were present.
Those attending from O’Neill
were Mr. and Mrs. John Hynes
and family and Mr. and Mrs.
Matt Hynes and family. Also at
tending the picnic were members
from Omaha, Columbus and
Bartlett.
Son Has Surgery
Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Melena
returned last week from Roches
ter, Minn., where surgery was
performed on their son, David’s
leg.
Honored on Birthday
Several friends surprised Mrs.
Lil Simonson on her birthday
Wednesday afternoon with cake
and gifts. Those present were
Mrs. Ralph Walker, Mrs. George
McCarthy, Mrs. Ralph McElvain
and Mrs. Goldie Liddy.
To Go To France
Mrs. Leona Hynes took her son,
Richard, to Grand Island Tues
day where he will go to Fort Dix,
N. J. From there he will sail
for France where he will be sta
tioned for the next year. Richard
has been visiting friends and re
latives in O’Neill for several
weeks. He expects to visit his sis
ter in New York, before going
overseas.
ORCHARD—New officers were
installed at a meeting held Mon
day evening by the American
Legion auxiliary in the Legion
hall.
The officers are: Mrs. John
Auman jr., president; Mrs. Glen
Miller, vice president; Mrs. John
Leiding, treasurer, and Mrs. Ed
na Liebsack, secretary. Mrs.
Liebsack was unable to be pre
sent and will be installed at a
later date.
Girls Stater Lana Cleveland
spoke to the group on her trip
to Lincoln this summer where
she attended Girls State.
Mrs. Leonard Hall served as
sergeant at arms, and Mrs. Rich
ard Knapp was installing officer.
The next meeting will be a
family picnic at the park August
21 at 6:30 p.m.

Boniface Catholic church July 27
at 10 a.m. when Miss Bunny Ann
King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas King. Stuart, and Dan
iel L. Meyer, Bison. S. D., son
of Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Meyer,
Owanka, S. D. were married in
a double ring ceremony.
Their wedding day was on the
32nd wedding anniversary of the
bride’s parents.
Performing the ceremony was
the Rev. A. J. Paschang. Altar
boys were Rick Kunz and Roger
Scholz.
A white balerina dress was
selected by the bride for her
wedding. It was styled in tiers of
Chantilly lace over white tulle.
A fingertip length veil fell from a
small white hat. She carried an
arrangement of white carnations
centered on a white prayer book,
and also a blue rosary.
Mrs. Calvin Meyer, Cedar Falls,
la., was matron of honor, and
Mrs. Donald Manhalter, Murdo,
S. D., sister of the bride, was

in the home of the bride’s par
ents. Mrs. Roy Harrington had
charge of the guest book. Mrs.
Kay Newbanks poured and Mrs
Mel Oarr arranged the gifts.
The three women are sisters of
the bride.
The bride is a graduate of Stu
art high school and has been em
ployed at the Hi Way Cafe.
Mr. Meyer, a graduate of New
Underwood high school, has a
range management degree from
Brookings college. He is employ
ed in the Soil Conservation office*
at Bison.
Following a wedding trip to Up
ton, Wyo., the couple will be at
home in Bison.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Butterfield
and son, Red Cloud, were week
end guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. George McCarthy and
family.
Mrs. Leo Tom jack returned
home Sunday evening from Oma
ha after being hospitalized at St.
Joseph hospital for the past seven
weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sobotka
and family, Norfolk, were week
end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Langan and Mr. and Mrs. Mike
Langan, and families.
Mrs. A1 Carroll spent from
Wednesday until Friday in Sioux
City with her daughter-in-law,
Mrs. Robert Carroll and grand
daughter, who is under medical
attention there.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Ziska and
family returned Sunday from a
week vacation spent visiting at
the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Ziska, Stuart and
with friends at Valentine.

his brother, Jack Berigan and
family, over the weekend.
Mrs. Esther Downey, Constance
Anderson and Newton Mullendore
left on vacation to tour both the
southern and northern parts of
California. They will go to Ore
gon to bring back David Ander
son. Mrs. Downey will then go on
to New York.
Mr. and Mrs. Roland Coil,
Sioux City, former O’Neill resi
dents. visited here Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jenkins
and children returned Wednesday
from the Black Hills.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Janzing
and family, Wichita, Kan., are
spending their vacation visiting
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Janzing, and other rela
tives and friends. Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Janzing and Debbie, Fuller
ton, spent the weekend visiting
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs
Herman Janzing. Joyce Ann re
turned with them and will spend
this week at their home. Mr. and
Mrs. Norbert Puhalla, Steinauer:
visited over the weekend with
the Herman Janzing’s. They re
turned to their home Tuesday
morning.
EWING — Beverly Rotherham,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James
Rotherham, is a member of the
class which will fake part In the
41st annual graduating exercises
of the St. Elizabeth School of
Nursing, Lincoln, today (Thurs
day).
The baccalaureate services will
be held at 8t. Elizabeth’s Hos
pital chapel at 10 a m., and the
diplomas will be conferred at 8
p.m. at Hus X high school audi
torium. ^
-Miss Rotherham’s sister,
Helen, is an alumae member,
and her sister, Beverly, Ls now
a second year student at St.
Elizabeth’s. The graduates will
take their state board exams
September 7 and 8.
