Emmet Little League base ball team played Atkinson Mon day night at Emmet. Atkinson won 15 to 7. Ewing News By Mrs. Harold Harris _ Leroy Pofahl, Ewing, and Allen Peterson, Clearwater, formerly of Ewing, were confirmed at the Concordia Lutheran church at Clearwater Sunday. Fol lowing the service, the Pofahl family gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Pofahl for a no-host dinner. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pofahl, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rockey and children, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Po fahl and daughters, Ewing, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Anderson and granddaughter, Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Krachie, who have been vacationing in Minnesota for the past three weeks, returned home Saturday. Mrs. Wilda Carr, Holdredge, spent from Tuesday to Friday at the home of her brother and sis ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dierks. Mary Lynne Zoeller was a guest for a few days last week at the Lyle Dierks home. She accompanied Dr. Merton Dierks to her home in Manhattan dur ing die weekend. Dr. Dierks brought his family back to Ewing where they will now make their home. At present they are guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dierks. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Evans, Im perial, were recent visitors at the Lyle Dierks home. The Evans family are former residents of Ewing when Mr. Evans was su perintendent of the Ewing public scnooi. Mrs. Joe Kaczor, her mother, Mrs. Leo Vandersnick and Mrs. Eva Kaczor visited Mrs. John Vandersnick at 9tuart Sunday. They also called on A. A. Alden, a former Ewing resident. Mrs. George Latzel accompanied them and visited Mr. Latzel who is be ing cared for at the Stuart Rest home. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Spangler and children returned Monday from a vacation trip which took them to Utah. On their reurn trip home, they spent some time sightseeing in Colorado. “God’s Word and Our Words’’ was the theme of the lesson for the Womens Society of Christian Service meeting at the parlors of the Methodist church Wednes day afternoon. Mrs. Willis Rock ey was leader. Mrs. Anna Pol lock was in charge of the de votional period with Mrs. Curtis Roberts, pianist. The meeting op- j ened with a reading by Mrs.1 James Tinsley. At the business! meeting Mrs. Ray Sedivy, secre- j tary of children’s work, gave a; report on the Daily Vacation Bi ble school and the Sunday School. Mrs. Earl Van Ostrand reported on mission service. Mrs. Rockey announced that the pre-cut garments ordered some time ago had arrived and as soon as completed will be sent to the United Churches Welfare at St. Louis, Mo., to be distributed to the needy. She also stated that the School of Missions would be held in Lincoln August 21 to 25. Motion approved to pay expenses of delegate to attend. The Ewing society will be hosts for the WSCS Fall seminar Sep tember 26 at the Methodist church. Notes of thanks were re ceived from Mrs. Ben Larson, Marie Davis and Mrs. Dewitt Gunter. Cards were sent to A.A.! Alden at a Stuart Rest Home, j Mrs. L. A. Hobbs, Mrs. Dewitt Hoke and the Elmer Woeppel family. Twenty members were present. Guests were Mrs. Waldo Davis and Jane Spragg. Refresh ment hostesses were Mrs. Frank Schmidt and Mrs. H. R. Harris. Mrs. Eleanor Pollock was a holiday weekend guest of her mo ther, Mrs Anna Pollock. She re turned to Omaha Sunday. Mrs. E. D. McDonald and son, Douglas, and daughter, Suzanne, left Friday to spend the weekend at Vermillion, S. D., with rela tives. Guests Saturday at the Ray Butler home were her sister, Mrs. S. H. Lynch of Gordon, and her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Morrison of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Archer and daughter, Ellen, who have been guests of his mother, Mrs. Bertha Archer in Ewing, and of relatives and friends in Neligh and Grand Island, left during the weekend to return to their home at Green Bay, Wise. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hoag and son, who have been vacationing in Colorado, are visiting at the parental home of Perry Saiser and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoag be fore returning to their home in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Cloyd visit ed relatives in Meadow Grove Sunday. Recent guests at the George Jefferies home are Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Troshynski, Waype, Mrs. Mark Muff, O’Neill, Mrs. Beulah Pederson and family, Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Cratty, Mrs. Creds, Neligh and Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Wulf, Michigan. The morning worship hour at the United Presbyterian church Sunday was conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Willie Shrader who gave a report on the meeting of the Nebraska Synod held recently at Hastings. In the evening, Archie Johnston was in charge of a Bible quiz. “Gardening” was the theme of the lesson for the Facts and Fun Home Extension club when they met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ben Larsen who was also the leader, assisted by Mrs. Ella Ziems and Mrs. J. L. Pruden. Plant diseases, insecti cides and commercial fertilizers were discussed by the group. A short business session was con ducted by Mrs. Pruden, president. Twelve members answered to roll call. Guests were Mrs. Albert Lar- . son, Mrs. Roland Hord and Mrs. Grace Briggs. A lunch was served by the hos tess, picnic style. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Cloyd, ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. Les lie Brokaw, Norfolk, spent the fourth of July holiday with their daughter, Mrs. Russell Napier at Sterling, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Archer ami daughter, Ellen, Green Bay, Wis., were honored guests Wed nesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Munn with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bergstrom assisting hosts. A cookout picnic supper was served on the lawn. Mrs. Bertha Archer of Ewing was also a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pollock ac companied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe 9turbaum, spent Sunday in Omaha visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cros by and daughter. Sp. 5 Gene Sisson, Fort Carson, Colo., has returned after spending a few days with his mother, Mrs. Helen Sisson, who has been ill. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Billings, who spent the Fourth of July holiday with their daughter, Mrs. Robert Dunaway and family at Hastings, returned home Wednesday. Jerry and Tom Sisson are spending the summer vacation with their sister, Mrs. John Stes kal jr. and family at McCall, Ida. Their brother, Jack Sisson, Omaha, took them to McCall. Ann Bergstrom, a guest of her cousin, Kay Bergstrom, left Wed nesday to join her family in Om aha. Mrs. Darlene Bowling and child ren returned home Friday from Niobrara where they had spent the Fourth of July and visited relatives. Ruth Ross, of Clay Center, Kan., was a guest a few days at the home of her brother, Dr. William H. Ross. Dr. Ross and Miss Ross left Thursday to go to Rochester, Minn., where they attended the wedding of Dr. Ross’ daughter, Dr. Margaret Ross and Dr. Paul Van Horn, Saturday afternoon. Other rela tives attending the wedding were Helen Weede, Pakistan, and Jennie Weede, Sterling, Kan. The Rosses and Weedes plan to visit friends at Wash ington, Hillsboro, Birmingham, Fairfield, Indianola, Carlisle, Malcolm and Des Moines, all in Iowa, before returning home. The Forum Group of the United Presbyterian church sponsored a family picnic for the congrega tion on the Fourth of July at the Leo Miller home. After the din ner, horseshoes were played by the older men while the boys had a ball game. Games were pro vided for the entertainment of the small children. The women enjoyed visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Anderson, Janice and Paula spent Tuesday evening at the Darold Lindgren home helping Miss Lindgren cele brate her birthday. Lester Johnson was a Friday supper guest at the Ivar Johnson home. It was Lester’s birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Nelson and family, Homewood, 111., spent from Monday to Wednesday at the M. B. Nelson home. Supper guests at the Harry Mahlendorf home Thursday eve ning were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Olson and Lauri of Popular, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Mahlen dorf and family.
