Rita and Howard Small and Garry Gelford of Detroit arrived at Verdigre Sunday morning where they visited Howard’s and Rita's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sokol. They were Sunday overnight guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Bartos and Monday they visited with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brookhouser. Celebrated that evening were the birthdays of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer McConnell and Mrs. Dale Barnes. Robertson of Chambers were recent visitors i at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Skrdla. Mrs. Leonard Jungman, who is attending summer school session, spent the weekend in her home in Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McClurg went to Broken Bow last Friday, where they helped their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McClurg and family, get settled in their new location. They return<*d to their home Sunday evening. Mr. Roth, who is custodian at the Atkinson public school has been taking his vacation from his duties but will return to his work Monday. She expects to return home about July 1. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Parsons left Monday to attend the Pony Sale at Nebraska City. They also planned to visit relatives and triends in Iowa before they re turn home. Mr. and Mrs. James Sweeney and family of Council Bluffs are spending a week visiting at the home of Mrs. Sweeney's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Labern Cadwallader and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Morris. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Morris of Butte spent Sunday in Atkinson visiting the group. The Atkinson Civic Improve ment Garden club met Wednes day evening for a five o’clock covered dish supper at the city park. Roll call was answered by naming a new gladiola. Each member brought material for making an arrangement which was judged. A round table dis cussion on flower arranging fol lowed. The next meeting will be held July 12. Delores and Linda Schaaf of Boulder, Colo., came Saturday to visit their sister, Mrs. Dean Gokie and family. Linda plans to stay for an indefinite time. Mr. and Mrs. Ladd Sladek and Betty drove to Dodge Saturday to spend Sunday visiting at the home of Mrs. Sladek's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Raymer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Sladek and daughter and Charles Sladek, all of Schuyler, also spent Sunday at the Raymer home visiting with Ronnie’s and Charles’ par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ladd Sladek. The Sladeks returned home Sun day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Claire Brooke and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Gross man and Colette of Stuart spent Sunday picnicking at the Ft. Ran dall picnic grounds. Mrs. Gross man is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claire Brooke. Mr. and Mrs. Grossman have recently moved to Stuart where he has accepted the position of band master at the Stuart public school for the coming year.
