Schaffer, Grenier Repeat Vows in Catholic Rite Miss Rose Ann Schaffer, daugh ter of Mrs. Clara Schaffer, and Carroll Grenier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grenier, were marri ed Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic church. The Rev. Robert Duffy per formed the'double ring ceremony. Douglas Spittler was soloist, ac companied by Sister Flores at the organ. Silk organza over taffeta fash ioned the bride’s gown in tra ditional white. A lace appliqued bodice incrusted with seed pearls, and fitted wrist tipped sleeves featured a batteau neckline. Pet al scallops were used in attach ing the voluminous skirt which swept into a cotillion train at the back. Her fingertip French illu sion veil was held in place by a double queen’s crown of lace, em broidered with iridescent sequins and seed pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses. Matron of honor was Mrs. Joe Schmidt, sister of the bride grom. Bridesmaids were Mrs. D. Seymour, Cedar Rapids, Miss Alice Schaffer and Miss Kay Schaffer, sisters of the bride. They wore identical dresses of aqua silk organza with fitted bo O'Neill Photo Co. dices, puffed sleeves and full skirts. They wore picture hats and carried colonial bouquets of pink mums. .... David Schaffer, Grand Island, gave his sister in marriage. Best man was Joe Schmidt,. and other attendants to the bride groom were Dick Seymour, Cedar Rapids, Dick Gaskill, Denver, and Harvey Sawyer, Sheridan, Wyo. Ushers were Harlah Saw yer, Sheridan, Wyo., and Skip Ver zal. Flower girl was Sandy Sey mour who was dressed in attire similar to that of the bride’s at tendants. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served to the im mediate families at the Town House. Presiding at the coffee service was Mrs. James Sobot ka, Inman, and at the punch bowl, Miss LaDonna McNulty. Miss Frances Calhoun, Grand Is land, and Mrs. Howard Jackson cut and served the wedding cake which was baked by Mrs. Byron Grenier. Miss Mary Benze took charge of the guest book and Mrs. Rudy Morrow and Mrs. Francis Holz took care of the gift table. Following a wedding trip, the couple will make the-ir home in Grand Island where Mr. Grenier is employed as assistant mana ger in the Hested store. . u r~ Mary Sheila Hertei Weds John Bailey Miss Mary Sheila Hertel, O’ Neill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seth L. Hertel, Ewing, and John LeRov Bailey jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bailey, were united in marriage Thursday, May 25, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic church. A wedding breakfast was serv ed for 60 guests in the Methodist church parlors at Chambers. Mrs. Ralph Tom jack, Ewing, cut and served the wedding cake, assist ed by Mrs. Don Mikkelsen, Ew ing. Miss Mary Homolka, Miss Ruth Smith, Chambers, and Miss Beth Fullerton, Amelia. Mrs. Bob Gartner jr., Chambers, served punch. Miss Joan Fullerton, Lin coln. was in charge of the guest book and taking care of gifts were Miss Susan LaRue, Ewing, and Miss Shirley Storjohann, Bur well. Assisting with preparations were Mesdames Kenneth LaRue, Joe Homolka, Emil Klabenes, Glee Grimes and Raymond Shoe maker. Following a wedding trip to the Black Hills, the couple is making their home at 218 South Second Street, O'Neill. Engagements •.. LYNCH—Mr. and Mrs. George Courtney sr., of Lynch announce the engagement of their daughter, Giena, to George Soukup of Bris tow, son of Adolph Soukup. Miss Courtney is presentely em ployed at a doctor’s office in At kinson. Mr. Soukup is employed at the Farmers Union in Bristow. The couple plans an August wedding. O'Neill Locals Relatives from out-of-town at tending the Schaffer-Grenier wed ding Saturday included Mrs. Rose Vandersnick, Chicago, 111., Mrs. Hallie Crippen, Mr. and Mrs. Will iam Crippen, Sioux Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Sawyer and Har lan of Sheridan, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gallagher returned Saturday morning from Rochester, Minn., where Lloyd underwent recent surgery. Sun day visitors in the Gallagher home were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Saide, Sioux City, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Johnson. Mrs. J. 0. Ballantyne, who has been teaching in the Indepen dence, Missiouri school system for the last four years, is spend ing an indefinite visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wegman in Page, and was pre sent for the Alumni banquet Mon day evening. Enroute to Page, she spent the weekend with her son, Jimmie and family at Stanton. Livewires Meet The Phoenix Livewires 4-H club met with Enid and Errol Johnson at their home Friday evening. Roll call was answered by telling of embarassing mom ents in school. Club Members Meet Mrs. Leo Babutzke was hostess to the Meet Thy Neighbor club when it met May 24 at her home. Thirteen members answered roll call by naming favorite foods. Mrs. Norma Steele was a visitor. Five members received birth day gifts from their “secret pals’’. Various games were play ed for entertainment. The next meeting will be June 28 at the home of Mrs. William Rabutzke. Roll call will be answered by giving one-dish recipes. Club Sponsors Two The Willing Workers 4-H club held a meeting May 26 at the courthouse annex assembly room, Roll call was answered with each person’s birthstone. Jeannie Crabb gave the speech which she gave for the Hob County Speaking contest. Carroll Peacock gave a health report on how to protect oneself from poi son oak and poison ivy. Society Meets Nearly 80 women attended St. Patrick's Altar society meeting Thursday evening at which time one new member, Mrs. John Hermson, was introduced. After the business meeting the May crowning took place and Mrs. James Gallagher, president, placed the wreath on the statue of the blessed virgin. Hymns were sung and Msgr. T. O’Sullivan led the group in prayer. Three St. Mary’s students, Helen Gokie, Lynn McCarthy and Tom Wanser, furnished entertainment. The meeting was in charge of St. Ann’s guild with Mrs. Torn Cro nin as chairman. New officers and chairmen will be introduced at the June meeting. Mrs. Serr Entertains Eleven members of the HHA Extension club met Friday with Mrs, Fred Serr as hostess. Mrs Herbert Spann and Mrs. Mwie Threse attended as guests. Mrs. Carol Kurpgeweit led the group singing and Mrs. Mary Funk pre sided at the meeting. Roll call was answered by naming favorite one-dish meals. Parker entertained at a dinner Sunday evening at the Town House in honor of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ernst, who will be celebrating their 36th wedding an niversary June 2. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Don Tuch and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Vraspier and Mrs. James Tuch, Niobrara; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Kemper, Pago, and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wayman, Trvan and Irdean, and Mrs. Charles Richter. The balance of the evening was spent in Mrs. Parker’s home where she had arranged for a telephone vis it with the Ernsts’ daughter, Mrs. Clarence Tieszen and Mr. Tieszen in San Gabriel, Calif. Mrs. Pitham Is Hostess Members of the Beginners Bridge club met May 24 in the home of Mrs. Jack Pitham. In the playing of cards prizes were won by Mrs. Mike Trupp and Mrs. Dun Younie. Guests were Mrs. Esther Harris and Mrs. Albert Tooker. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stahlecker and family of Bonesteel were in O’Neill Saturday on business, and while here visited her mother, Mrs. Mary Neiman, and sister, Mrs. Norman Uhl. Mrs. Neiman and David accompanied them home until Tuesday at which time the Stahleckers brought them to O’Neill and also attended con firmation of Rodney Stahlecker. Mrs. Ethel Selah, Omaha, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Heriford. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Roberts, Fremont, spent Tuesday in the Heriford home. Mrs. Esther Morgan will leave Friday evening for Columbus and will accompany a nephew to Om aha where they will attend the wedding of her nephew, Jim Pet erson, and Sylvia Rigg Saturday in the Dundee Presbyterian church. Mrs. C. E. Jones is visiting in Vinton, la., in the home of Mrs. Don Anderson and will attend graduation exercises in which her granddaughter, Judy Anderson, will receive her diploma at Iowa university. The Andersons came to O’Neill Monday to accompany Mrs. Jones to their home in Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Hancock plan to leave Los Angeles, Calif. Jane 6 to v&it their son, J. Ed Hancock, and daughter, Mrs. Loyal Hull and families. They will stop enroute to visit friends in Omaha and Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Rundquist of Royal will be honored at an open house Sunday, June 18, in honor of their golden wedding. The couple have operated Rundquists General store for more tluui 50 years. **. The Misses Pat Ohm, Marcia Conyers and Anna Grybill assisted with the recep tion. These three and Miss Vun Cannon are nursing student friends of the bride. The bride is a graduate of the Page high school and of Grace land College, Lamoni, la., and now is a senior at the Indepen dence Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing, Independence, Mo. Mr. Bush is a graduate of the Tidioute high school. He is em ployed by the Hallmark Card company in Kansas City, Mo. After a wedding trip through the Black Hills of South Dakota and into Wyoming, the couple returned to Independence where they are residing at 1413 W. Short Street. All of the bride’s family, with the exception of her brother, Roy and family, were able to attend the wedding. Also present were her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wegman, Page. Paul Young and his daughter, Doniphan were among the out of-town guests who attended the Devall-Young wedding Sunday. Young In Methodist Rite The First Methodist church of O’Neill was the setting for the Sunday wedding of Miss Nancy Kay Devall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Devall, and Ro bert James Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Young. The Rev. Glenn Kennicott of ficiated at the 2:30 p.m. double ring ceremony in the presence of 250 guests. White mums and candelabra decorated the altar. The deep yoke of tulle that accented the mold ed lace bodice featured a Peter Pan lace collar and long fitted sleeves which ended in bridal points. Her floor length bouffant skirt was highlighted by a back panel of tiered lace ruffles which fell into an aislewide cathedral train. Small pearls and lace braid formed the bride’s cap which held her silk illusion fingertip veil in place. She carried a white Bib le centered with a removable white orchid. Miss Sharon Marcellus was maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Miss Jolene Sorenson, Ar lington, Miss Nancy Jo Fetrow and Miss Esther Young, sister of the bridegroom. Miss Kathryn De vall, sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. All wore iden tical dresses in pastel shades of lavender, pink, yellow and green, respectively, styled in taffeta with white nylon chiffon overskirts, draped V necklines and cap sleeves. They wore matching head pieces and carried colonial bouquets of pom pons. Flanders and Merritt Dodson in Lynch Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Nels Holmberg and Norman of Dallas, S. D., vis ited at the Harry Holmberg home Sunday afternoon and were lunch eon guests there. Mrs. Raymond Walter, Chambers, served the punch, and Mrs. R. V. Crumly, Page, re sided at the coffee service. Mrs Cecil Griffith, North Platte, and Mrs. Elmer Devall cut and serv ed the cake. Mrs. David Jensen was hostess. Mrs. Maurice Jones, Chadron, Miss Janet Krugman and Miss Velda Ernst, Lincoln, were in charge of the gift table. The bride graduated from O’ Neill high school and attended Commercial Extension college in Omaha. She is now employed at the Niobrara Valley Electric company in O’Neill. Mr. Young graduated from O’Neill high school and is now en gaged in ranching.
