O'Neill Locals Legion Auxiliary The regular meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary, Sim onson Unit of O’Neill was held at the Legion hall May 3 with Peg gy Jansen, Mary Jurgensmeier and Lucille Klingler as hostesses. Junior Counsellor Gertrude Streeter, reported that the Jun iors had enrolled another new member, Kathy Sindelar. Mrs. Streeter also reported that the Junior members had made hos pital favors for the Veteran’s Hospital at Grand Island; and they have sent carpet rags to the Old Soldiers and Sailors Home at Grand Island. The Annual Jun ior Convention will be held at Hay Springs June 4 and 5. Several Juniors from this Unit plan to attend. A “thank you” card had been received from the Veterans hospital for the tray favors. Mrs. William Cousins announced that Poppy Day will be held Saturday, May 13. The Holt County meeting of the Legion and Auxiliary will be held at O’Neill May 15. The Auxiliary workers served a ban quet to 30 representatives of the Jordan Mill works Co. of Sioux Falls, S. D. on May 9. Election of officers for the 1961-1962 year will be held at the June meeting of the Auxiliary. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bettenhausen and daughter, Sara, and Mrs. Fred Holtorf of Hartingbon were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Herley and family. Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Zak rzewski and grandson, Justin, vis ited their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowen and family of Fremont, the weekend April 29-30. On Sunday they at tended the dedication of Arch bishop Bergan high school and also attended confirmation exer cises at 5 p.m. Sixty-six adults and 255 children were confirmed. Relatives of the O’Neill visitors were members of the class. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Hiatt re turned Tuesday after visiting sev eral days with their son, Gor don and family at Des Plaines, 111. Joe Stutz, manager of the Mc Donald company store in O’Neill, will attend a company meeting Friday and Saturday at Hast ings. Mrs. Wilson Andrews of Cof fee vile, Kan., is visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dale Wilson and family, and will at tend commencement exercises for her grandaughter, Sonita. Sunday evening guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. HarrisoD Bridge were her brother and sis ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Landis of Ogallala, formerly of O’Neill. They were returning from Hastings where Mr. Landis was one of 10 vice presidents elected at the State Junior Chamber of Commerce convention. Bill Baker, who has been stat ioned at Ft. Ord, Calif., has been transferred to Ft. Sill, Okla., where he will be stationed 11 weeks before leaving for Ger many. Bill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Baker, O’Neill. BOA Club Meets Members of the BOA club met for a dinner Tuesday evening at the Town House and for an eve ning of cards at the home of the hostess, Mrs. John Stuifbergen. Mrs. Allan Jaszkowiak was a guest. Card winners were Mrs. M. L. Burney and Mrs. Virgil Laursen. Essay Winners N. Louis Neils on, Chambers, has been awarded the first prize of $10 for his winning essay in the St. Anthony Hospital Auxili ary essay contest. Mrs. John W. Miller, Ewing, won second prize and Mrs. Jettie Shorthill, O’Neill, won third. Title of the essays was “What Do You Think of Our Hospital”. Extension Club Meets What Not Extension Club met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Donald Younie. Each mem ber brought or sent a May bask et for their “secret pal”. Mrs. Vernon Carpenter and Mrs. Du ane Miller gave the lesson on “quick meals”. The foods pre pared during the lesson w’ere used as the luncheon.
