Tuesday in O'Neill Invitational
Ten class A records and 11 class
B records fell Tuesday at the an
nual O’Neill Invitational track
meet. Winning top honors in the
class A division was O’Neill with
113% points. St. Paul copped se
cond with 44, Crofton placed
third with 40 and Ainsworth was
fourth with 37.
In class B competition Lynch
won high honors with 56 3/4 points
followed by St. Mary’s with 32%,
Chambers had 29, Springview 21
Vi, Niobrara 21, Stuart 10, Page
9%, Clearwater 8, Verdigre 7,
Spencer 7, St. Joe 6, Tilden 4,
Bassett 3, Butte 6. Atkinson 3 %,

phy when they won the Niobrara
Valley Conference track meet
April 19 at the O’Neill field.
Lynch scored 87 ¥2 points for
first place. Verdigre had 52 for
second place and Spencer was
third with 31. Other partici
pants at the meet were Niobra
ra, Butte, Center and Naper.

A MIGHTY EFFORT but Bill Hynes of St. Mary’s failed to clear
the bar in the high jump Tuesday afternoon. However Cal Peters
was successful in his effort and set a new record as he cleared the
bar at 5’ 8”.
Little League Baseball Schedule

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Clyde were
dinner guests in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne Henderson at
Orchard Sunday. Weekend guests

BCA members met Tuesday
evening at the Town House for
a 7 p.m . dinner, followed by
cards at the home of the hostess, j

Tour Lincoln
Mrs. Lois Miner and two pupils,
Wally and Eddie Fick, of school
Dist. 215 spent the weekend in
Lincoln sightseeing. On Monday
evening they attended the Shrine
Circus. They tourned many plac
es of interest, including the state
capital. Antelope Park Zoo and
the Indian Council Cave.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Brady sr. re
turned Tuesday from a week’s vis
it to Ottawa, Kan., with her sis
ter. They accompanied Mr. and
Mrs. Claude Pickering as far as
Kansas, while the Pickerings con
tinued on to California where they
visited their son, Lorelle and
wife.
NCNC Track Meet
Slated Tuesday
Tuesday will be the day for the
NCNC track meet at O’Neill,
with morning and afternoon
events. Field events will be at
9:30 a.m.
The administration and coach
ing staff of O’Neill high school
expresses their appreciation to
the O’Neill Chamber of Com
merce members who served as
judges, timers and inspectors at
the Invitational track meet held
here April 25.
McIntosh Jewelry store and the
Bulova Watch company provided
watches for official timers.
Inman High Has
Annual Banquet
INMAN—High school students
met Saturday evening for their
junior and senior banquet and
prom which was carried out in
the “Southern Planation” theme.
Ruth Ann Hansen was toast
mistress at the banquet and in
troduced the following program
participants: Bob Pribil, Keith
Kivett, Kay Kelley, Garnett Gil
logly, Boh Morrow and Mr. Mil
ler.
After the banquet the group ad
journed to the gym where 300
"magnolia” blossoms were used
in the decorations. Georgia Iler

crowned queen and king. Their
attendants were Georgia Fick and
Bob Morrow. Crown bearers wi re
Kathy and Kenny Musil.
The banquet was prepared by
mothers of the juniors and
served by Warren Hansen, Bill
Coventry, Joe Harte and Richard
Keil, sophomores. Dance music
was furnished by The Rockets.

Athletic Banquet
CLEARWATER - “Moonlight
and Roses” was the theme of the
Athletic banquet held Tuesday
evening in the Catholic Parish
hall for the Clearwater high
school students.
Highlight of the evening wivs

king, Joan Kabatkn and Carl
Nore. Miss Sabatka is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Sabatka, and Nore is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon
Nore.

Richard Herley and Bonnie Dam
me, sophomores, and Marie An
derson and Jack Kalhoff, juniors.
On the program were Beverly
Harriman, president of the Pep

New District Manager
Gene Bird, district manager of
the Mobile Oil company, has been
transferred to Des Moines, la.,
and has been replaced by Alan
VanNice.
Mrs. Bird will join her husband
in Des Moines as soon as their
two daughters have completed
their school term.
Mr. Van Nice is renting an
apartment at the present time.
He plans to be married next
month and his fiancee is now at
tending college. Following their
marriage they plan to live in
the residence at 207 North Third,
in which the Birds are now re
siding.
Pony League Play
Organized Thursday
CHAMBERS—Baseball players
met with their parents and of
ficials Thursday evening in the
grade school building to organ
ize for Pony League play this
summer.
The Chambers team will par
ticipate in new Sandhill League
organization. A little League
team was also organized at this
time, and equipment was pjr
chased from money donated by
Chambers residents.
Lloyd Hilligas will coach the
Pony League.

Meet at West Point
The board of directors of the
Elkhom Valley Water Resources
association will meet today
(Thursday) at the city auditorium
in West Point, starting at 7:30
p.m.
Seven counties, Holt, Antelope,
Gumming, Madison, Pierce, Stan
ton and Wayne are represented by
the Association The Association
strives for the most profitable
and economic use of soil and
water resources of the Elkhom
Valley and the watersheds of its
tributaries.

To Teach at Neligh

Neal, who has taught in Holt a«d
Antelope county rural schools,
has been hired by the Neligh
board of education to teach in
the elementary grades at the
Neligh public school next fall.
She is a 1953 graduate of dear
water high school, has taken col
lege work at Norfolk junior col
lege, Wayne State Teachers col
lege and the University of Ne
braska.
