Butte News Mrs. Loris Anderson Phone 5962 Harlan Parker Baseball Head Thirty-one boys between the ages of 8 and 13 years gathered at the Butte ball park last Fri day evening to make plans for the summer ball season. Harlan Parker will act as manager and will be assisted by Denny Riesselm^n. The Butte Study club met April 11 at the home of Mrs. A. P. Anderson. Seventeen members and two visitors, Mrs. J. M. Ab benhaus and Mrs. August Sibbel were present. Roll call was an swered by showing pictures of favorite flowers. Mrs. Carl Tienken, president, conducted the business meeting. The lesson on “Civil Defense” and “Safety in the Home” was presented by Mrs. George Dah lenberg and Mrs. Gus Sieler. Lunch was served by Mrs. Ben Woodruff and Mrs. Mack Mahannah. The Butte Community Mission ary Society met Thursday after noon at the church basement. This is the Challenge When the Pilgrim fathers crossed the forbidding Atlantic and settled this great country that is America, they had sought the oft-quoted “Ameri can Dream" that is embodied m the words freedom and opportunity. But oppression from without forced the writing of that great document, The Declaration of Independence. And the government that came about found its basic structures in the still essential Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Today that “American Dream” is being challenged . challenged by a way of life that could not and would not recognize our freedom and our opportunity. Communism would enslave all of us in its tentacles and blot out all vestige of that which we hold dear... that which our forefathers too held dear when they declared: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalien able Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” We must re-examine our purposes as individuals and as members of this great Nation of ours. We must dedicate ourselves anew to those great principles that inspired men long ago to band together to preserve those truths they held to be self-evident. Therein lies our survival. Lunch was served by Mrs. Harry Luth and Mrs. Emil Luth. The Butte P-TA has secured two University of Nebraska speakers for the regular meeting to be held April 24. Invitations have been extended to the senior classes and their parents of each of the four high schools in the county, to attend this meeting. Speakers coming are Dr. F. L. Nicolai, deputy registrar, and Dr. Aubrey Forrest, director of scholarships and financial aids. The pupils and teacher of school district 16 were treated to ice cream and cake Thursday at school by Mrs. William Hansen. The occasion was Danny Han sen’s and Sandra Johnson's birth days. Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson and family were Sunday dinner guests at Dwayne Ansons. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hubby were Tues day evening visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Walters and boys and Mr. apd Mrs. Hen ry Walters spent Wednesday at Yankton. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Ander son attended the funeral of his grandfather, George Anderson at Bassett Saturday. The girls spent the day with their aunt, Mrs. Bennie Joining and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schmitz and family attended the 25th wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Clar ence Schmitz of Bonestetl, S. D. Saturday evening. It was a sur prise party and 88 of the relatives gathered for the event. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Brady sr. ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Claude Pickering and daughter to Kansas City Monday. The Bradys plan to visit Mrs. Brady’s sister, Judith Pickering, who lives near Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Pickering will continue their jour ney to Los Angeles, Calif., by airplane to visit their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Lorell Pickering. Their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Pickering of Lynch, will stay nights with the family at home during the parent’s ab sence.
