riage at the courthouse in O’Neill
Friday by Judge Riemer. The
couple was attended by her son
in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Loy Fluckey of Chambers.
Mr. and Mrs. Christiansen will
make their home in Chambers.
Mr. and Mrs. Milan Welke and
girls of Ewing were Sunday din
ner and supper guests of her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scott.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Haake
were Sunday evening callers in
the Walter Haake home.
The Rev. and Mrs. Charles Cox
returned Thursday evening from
Prairie du Chien, Wis. where they
had gone to get their daughter,
Mrs. Dale Finney and two child
ren who will visit here for about
a month.
A large crowd attended the
music concert by the college choir
of McPherson, Kan. at the high
school auditorium April 3.
Twenty-four attended the sun
rise service of the Methodist
young people Easter Sunday. Vis
itors from away at the service
and the breakfast which followed
were Mrs. Bayne Grubb and son,
Duffy, of Lincoln.
Mrs. Marjorie Sammons of
Sioux City was a weekend guest
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.E.
Alderson. She also visited her son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Sammons and children
at Amelia.
Mrs. Stella Sparks and son,
Ronnie, moved the first of the
week from the Tibbeis house to
the Dick Read home in the
north part of town.
The Woman’s Society of Chris
tian Service met Thursday after
noon at the Methodist church with
23 members and one visitor pre
sent. The president, Mrs. Gaiuf
Wintermote, read a poem. Mrs
A. B. Hubbard read a letter from
the conference treasurer regard
ing the pledge for the coming
year. The group voted to accept
the pledge which is the same as
last year but with an increase
of seven per cent in extra giv
ing. The district meeting at
Bloomfield and the workshop
meeting at Newport April 17 anc
at Beldin April 18 were discussed
Mrs. James Grimes gave e
missionary report.
Mrs. Arthur Tangeman led tin
worship service and Mrs. Alvii
Tangeman in the lesson discus
sion. Participating in a panel

It was voted to give $2.50 to the
Red Cross. The door prize went
to Mrs. Alderson. A visitor and
a former member, Mrs. Gene
vieve Bell, told of a club she had
at her new home in Ft. Collins,
Colo. Mrs. Ray Beed and Mrs.
Glen Grimes led in the playing
of several games after which
lunch was served by the hostess
es. The next meeting will be
April 19 at the home of Mrs. Ray
Beed with Mrs. Glen Grimes, co

Mrs. Lee Gilmer of Lincoln,
state president of the Women’s
Christian Temperance Union,
gave a talk on the new ap
proach to the alcoholic problem
in Nebraska at the Methodist
church April 12.

Saturday to attend a family din
ner at the Alfred Honeywell
home. The occasion honored Mr.
Honeywell’s niece, Mrs. Herman
Carlson and family who were vis
iting there from Canada. The
Carlsons were formerly of Elgin.
A guest speaker, Dr. Ivan E.
Olsen, spoke at the Memorial Bap
tist church April 6. His brother,
Dwight Olsen, presented a 15 min
iate musical program preceding
the message. There was also a
film shown.

will be married Saturday morn

and family at O’Neill Tuesday.

For California
Stanley Ickler left for Ft. Ord,
Calif., Tuesday where he will be
stationed with the National
Guard. Stanley spent a week
furlough with his parents after
receiving his (basic training at
Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rus
sell Ickler, took him as far as
Columbus.
Mrs. Ora Caskey entertained
the Help-U-Club at her home Ap
ril 5. Twelve members and one
visitor, Mrs. Edwin Porter of Or
chard, were present. The hostess
served a luncheon at noon. Mrs.
Alta Finch received the door
prize. Mrs. Irvin Held will have
the next meeting.

Tuesday the wind blew very
hard and much damage has been
reported. The wind took the tops
off from many haystacks. Visi
