Mrs. Erick Minerich
Home From Hospital
Mrs. Erick Minerich is now at
home after spending two months
in Antelope Memorial hospital re
cuperating from injuries received
New Years Eve. She is able to
be up and about most of the time,
has made a trip or two to town,
and feels well, coasidering hi r
long convalescence.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Curt
right sjMnt several days last
week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Stan
ley Wood and family at Weeping
Water.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Knapp en
tertained at dinner Sunday in
honor of the birthday anniver
sary of their daughter, Carol.
They entertained again Wednes
day evening for their daughter,
Mrs. Lyle Haake, who also had
a birthday anniversary.
Carol Knapp has accepted a
position at the National bunk
in Neligh. Miss Knapp lias re
cently completed a course at
the Lincoln School of Com
merce.
Mrs. Mary Hemenway under
went surgery in Neligh and is
able to be home now.
The women of St. Theresa’s
Catholic Church held a food sale
Saturday at the Legiou hall here.
Mrs. Kenneth Johnson, chair
man oi toe Heart, ruuu Here,
reports a total of $77 dollars
raistnl for the drive this year.
Mrs. Allen Peterson, formerly
Lois Sanne, was honor guest Sat
urday evening at a post nuptial
shower at Concordia Lutheran
church Saturday evening. Forty
five guests were present. Assist
ing were Sharon Snider, Carol
Knapp, Mrs. Sterling Legate and
Shirley Tinsley. Games were
played and refreshments served.
Mrs. Gail Rittscher, the former
Shirley Lyons, was honor guest
at a post nuptial shower Friday
night at the Legion hall. Games
were played and refreshments
served. Shirley Rittscher, Alice
Bnoderson and Donna Damme as
sisted. Refreshments were served.
Officers of the 1961 Alumni as
sociation met Friday night at the
Melvin Snider home and plans
were made for the annual event
to be held in May. Officers are
Sharon Snider, Mrs. Melvin Sni
der, Joyce Anderson, Mrs. Mar
jorie McCammon, Mrs. Rodney
Charf and Joann Moser.
Mr. and Mrs. Orval Hickerson
observed their silver wedding an
niversary Sunday with open house
at their home in Wayne. The
Hickersons are well remembered
here, Mrs. Hickerson being the
former Bemiece Miller, daughter
of Mr .and Mrs. John Miller, who
were in the next market and gro
cery business here a good many
years.

Enter Fathers
Business Here
Paul Seger returned to Atkinson
last Saturday after completing
his college work in Mortuary
Science and will be associated
in business here with his father,
Leo Seger.
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson
jr. of Lexington spent the week
end in Atkinson with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson
and Jim Claude jr. is an electric
ian in Lexington.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Lee and
son, Arthur, came from Norfolk
Saturday and spent Saturday eve
ning in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Spindler. Arthur is
an instructor in the Crofton
schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lemun
yan and family spent Saturday
evening visiting her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Smith, and her
brother and family, Mr .and Mrs.
Carl Smith jr. of Alda who spent
the weekend in Atkinson visiting
relatives and friends.
Mrs. Carl Schenzel of O’Neill
spent last Friday in the Claude
Johnson home.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pacha
went to Lincoln Saturday to spend
the weekend with their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ron
nie Frickle. They were accom
panied by Mrs. E. V. Hickok
who visited relatives there. They
returned to Atkinson Sunday eve
ning. They encountered a variety
of weather in the Capitol city Sun
day, ranging from thunder, light
ing, snow showers and icy road
conditions enroute home which
made hazardous driving condi
tions.

visited Thursday evening in the

Mr. and Mrs. Evan Lane and
family of Newport were Satur
day visitors in the Ethel Brown
home in Atkinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Ai'lan Brown
drove to O’Neill Sunday where
they met the Lou Brown family
and attended the Grand Old Opre.
They reported a very entertain
ing program.

and Mrs. Lebern Cadwallader
and family were Mrs. Cadwal
lader’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Morris, and Mr. and Mrs. j
Joe Matousek. The dinner was
given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. ;
Earl Morris 52nd wedding anni
versary.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wahl,
accompanied by their grandson,
Rodney Schmuecker, drove to
Valentine Sunday to visit their
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Haas and son.
When they returned home, they
were accompanied by another
grandson, Bryan Haas, who will
spend the week with his grand
parents in Atkinson.

and Mrs. John Mohr sr., were
their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Dobrovolny,
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilson and
Gladys Rohr of Stuart were last
Thursday afternoon callers of
Mrs. Frank Skrdla.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson
of O'Neill were Sunday dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Roth. In the afternoon the group
tried out some fishing but with
high waters their catch was
small.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roth and
Donald were among the many
Atkinsonites who attended the
Opera in O’Neill Sunday night.
They reported a full house and
enjoyed the entertainment very
m'jch, as did many others who at
tended.
A special meeting of some of
the Atkinson Civ c Improvement
Garden club members met Mon
day afternoon for a short busi
ness session at the home of Mrs.
Frank Skrdla. Others present
were Opal Keating, Celia Back
haus, Ethel Wefso, Evelyn Jung
man and Delores Parsons.
A meeting of the Atkinson
Civic Improvement Garden club
will be held March 22 at 1:30
p.m. at the home of Mrs. Fred
Mack. All members are urged
to attend.

Chambers were last Saturday
dinner guests of Jack’s mother
Mrs. Rena Smith. Jack is em
ployed by the Telephone com
pany at Chambers.
Mrs. Walter Blake of Valen
tine, sister-in-law of Mrs. Frank
Skrdla, called on Mrs. Skrdla
last Thursday. She was accom
panied by a friend and they were
enroute to Omaha on business,
and to visit Mrs. Blake’s son,
John, who is attending business
school there.
Denton Colfack of Bristow was
in Atkinson Saturday evening on
•business.
Several from the Atkinson a
shower in Butte last Friday eve
ning, given for Miss Sandra Put
nam. Miss Putnam will be mar
ried March 26 in Butte to Denton
Colfack.
Mrs. Celia Backhaus was a
Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Skrdla Saturday was
Mrs. Skrdla’s birthday and Mrs.
Backhaus baked, decorated and
presented her with a birthday
cake. ‘‘A belated Happy Birth
day, Mrs. Skrdla.”
The Jolly Workers 4-H club
held monthly meeting at the
home of Cathy and Ellen Elsbury
March 9. Roll call was answered
by naming an Irish song. It was
decided the next meeting would
be at Paty Dvorak’s April 14. Roll
call is to be a four line poem on
Easter or spring. Sharon Gaylnr
and Jean Bonenberger are to
demonstrate making bread. Mem
bers voted that the Dvoraks
would be on the committee to in
itate the new members. Pamala
Payne was a guest. Games and
lanch closed the meeting.
