Carpenter Word from Mrs. Louis Neilson reports that her husband had been transferred from Clarkson, hospital to the University hos pital in Omaha and was making same progress since his eye sur gery. Sixteen members of the Wo mans Society of Christian Ser vice met at the Methodist church Thursday for the regular lessoi). Mrs. LaVern Hoerle conducted the worship and Mrs. Fred Cat ron presented the lesson. A pane] of four discussed what had been done and what could be done to make life more enjoyable for our older citizens. The business meeting was op ened by the president, Mrs. Gauis Wintermote, who read a poem. Mrs. E. H. Medcalf, chairman of literature reported on church magazines. A letter from Loraine Ernst, missionary to the Belgian Congo, telling of her experience in leaving there was read. Two special memberships were given to be presented at the state meet ing in Grand Island this week. Several members of the Cham bers Society plan to attend the meeting in Grand Island. Some leters and cards of thanks were read. Lunch was served by Mrs. Darrell Gillette, Mrs. E. Medcalf, Mrs. A. B. Hubbard and Mrs. G. Wintermote. The birthday tea which was planned for Thursday was postponed until a later date due to the weather conditions. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Cooke and family of Springfield, Ore., arrived Monday fo a visit with his mother, Mrs. Letha Cooke, and ther relatives and friends. The Baptist Missionary society will meet today, March 16, at the home of Mrs. Andrew Gilbert for a work meeting. The hostess is Mrs. Bert Farewell. Mrs. Nelie Starr returned Fri day from the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Starr at Arnolds Park, la. The occasion was the birthdays of four year old Charlotte and two year old Harold Rockford. Word has been received that Everette Cook of Springfield, Ore. had suffered a heart at tack but was recovering nice ly. He is a son of Mrs. John Keller of Chambers. Mrs. George §mith has been a patient in Richard Young Memor ial hospital in Omaha for the past two weeks. Her room num ber is 117 at the hospital. The Seven Sisters 4-H club met March 4 at the home of Janice Robertson. The lesson was on “Shortened Cake”. Each girl made a cake. The next meeting will be March 25 with Lana Bell. Several from the Chambers and Amelia Methodist churches at tended the Sub-district Men’s Rally at the Methodist church in O’Neill Sunday. Attending were C. V. Robertson, E. R. Carpenter, Vern Whitaker, Clyde Widman, Vern Sageser, Ernest Johnson and the Rev Charles Cox. Mrs. Charles Grimes and Mrs. E. R. Carpenter were visitors. Lester Roff, the rural Or chard Mail carrier, was unable to complete his mall route part 1 of the week due to drifted roads. Viola Pospeshil returned to her ’ home March 6 from a three week vacation to Denver, where she visited friends and relatives. Vlasta Pospeshil entertained the Work and Fun club at her home March 8. Eleven members were present. The afternoon was spent in doing needle work for the hos tess. Miss Pospeshil served lunch at the close of the afternoon. Vi ola Pospeshil will have the Ap ril meeting. Mrs. LeMasters gave blood to her grandmother, Mrs. Mulda Miller, at the hospital there. Mrs. Miller was able to leave the hospital the latter part of the week.
