School Board Members and Wives Are Guests at Faculty Dinner The faculty of the Ewing public school entertained the Board of Education and their wives at a six p.m. dinner Wednesday at the school house. Food w->s fur nished and prepared by the wives of the faculty. Table decorations were carried out in a St. Pat rick’s Day theme of green and white. Cards were played for amusement. R. S. Brion, Mrs. Charles Rotherham, Mr. Rother ham and Mrs. Archie Tuttle won prizes. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Napier, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Brion, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rotherham, Mr. and Mrs. Wil bur Spangler and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funk. Ewing News By Mrs. Harold Harris Sp5 Gene Sisson, who has spent the past 27 months in Germany, is now home on furlough. He ar rived home Tuesday evening, ac companied by his brother, Wil liam Sisson of Chicago. The two met in Omaha and their brother, Jack, brought them to Ewing. On expiration of his furlough, Sp5 Sisson will be stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. Ina Bennett had as her dinner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Wil bur Bennett anti Mr. and Mrs. Archie Johnston and family. Other supper and evening guests were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shrad er and family. The Christian Mothers of St. Peters church post[x>ned the reg ular meeting March 7 until next month because of inclement weather. George Latzel suffered a stroke Friday morning at his home and was taken to St. An thony’s hospital. He is in a serious condition with the right side paralizod. His sons and wives, Mr. and Mrs. William Latzel and Mr. and Mrs. George Latzel jr., and Fred Latzel, all of Omaha, were called home. Mrs. Josephine Elston came home Friday from St. Anthony's hospital after spending a few days there due to a fall Wednes day morning. Mrs. Merlyn Meyer entertained at a bridge party Wednesday af ternoon at her home. Guests were Mrs. Ivan Wright, Mrs. Glen An derson, Mrs. Jerry Rotherham, Mrs. John Pruden and Mrs. Don Ruroede. Next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Ivan Wright. Mrs. John Kaczor and two sons transacted business in Neligh Monday. Guests at the Ed Urban home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Vic tor Bollwitt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bollwitt and son and Mrs. Alfreda Pruden and chil dren. Friday evening guests at the George Jefferies home were Mr. and Mrs. Verge Cratty of Neligh. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eacker returned home Sunday evening from Grand Island where they had spent the past week at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Fuller, who made a business trip to Denver. On Friday, the Fuller family and Mr. and Mrs. Eacker went to Sioux City. Here they were overnight guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ruby. Mr. and Mrs. James Rother ham, Annette, Myra, Rita, Bren da and Joe of Ewing went to Lin coln Sunday to attend the cap ping ceremony at St. Pious X high school. Their daughter, Kay, a freshman in the School of Nursing at St. Elizabeth’s hos pital, was one of a class of 47 students. Other guests present were Ron and Beverly Rother ham, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wood and family, all of Lincoln, Lyle Spence of O’Neill, Peggy Sulli van and Mardelle Vitt, both of Omaha. After the service, they attended a reception at St. Eliz abeth’s school. Mr. and Mrs. James Rother ham and family were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Rich in Lincoln. The Jephthah Chapter No. 85, Order of Eastern Star of Ewing, were guests Friday evening of the Trowel Chapter at Neligh, when three persons were initiat ed and became members of the . Neligh chapter. A social hour with lunch was enjoyed after chapter. Present in the Ewing chapter were Mr. and Mrs. Wil bur Bennett, Ina Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Wood, Mrs. El- . mer Bergstrom, Mrs. Keith Bid dlecome, Mrs. Frank Schmidt, Mrs. Maud Brion and Mrs. De witt Nome. The Rev. W. W. Elliott, John A. Wood and Dewitt Gunter at tended the Sub-district layman’s meeting held Sunday at the Meth odist church in O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. H. It. Harris had as their dinner and eve ning guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Hay Butler of Ewing and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hall of Royal. The occasion was in honor of the 40th wedding an niversary of Mr. and Mrs. But ler which was March 10. The Hall’s showed movies of their Florida and California trips and home movies. Mr. and Mrs. Butler were presented gifts. Miss Bertha Harris made the anniversary cake. Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Meyer entertained Sunday evening at a six p.m. dinner. George Jefferies was a patient at St. Anthony’s hospital in O’ Neill from Tuesday until Fri day for care and treatment. Mrs. Dewitt Gunter is back home again after spending a few days at St. Anthony’s hospital last week. Mrs. Anna Pollock, who has spent the winter with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gunter at Odebolt, la., is staying at the I Gunter home. Melvin brought her to Ewing Saturday and also spent sometime at the paf-ental home. Bruce Sedivy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sedivy, is convalescing at his home from a recent tonsil lectomy at the Tilden hospital. Duane Hord of Syracuse was a weekend guests at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hord. Sunday guests at the Hord home were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Napier and family. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rockey transacted business in Grand Island Monday. Mrs. Richard Williamson and children of Norfolk spent a few days at the home of her father, Delbert Carl sr., and assisted with the care of her grand mother, Mrs. Josephine Elston. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Tessmer and children were Sunday eve ning guests at the Alfred Napier home. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Maben of Clearwater were Saturday guests at the George Jefferies home. Other callers were Roy Rother ham and Martin Van Conet. Mrs. Josie Versaw, Sandra Tellander and Mrs. Alfred Pru den and children were guests of Mrs. Josephine Elston March 7. Cards provided entertainment. “Hats and Accessories” was the lesson presented Wednesday afternoon when the Seek and Share Home Extension club met at the annex of the United Pres byterian church. Each member wore a hat which was judged. Mrs. Wayne Fry, leader, also had a selection of hats to show the styles of former years. Mrs. Wayne Shrader, president was in charge of the business meeting. The group voted to give two dollars to the fund for Steven Good. Group singing opened the meeting with Mrs. Fry as pianist. Ten members were in at tendance. Mrs. Melvin Napier was hostess for the afternoon. Lunch was served by Mrs. Dale Napier. Celia News Mrs. Merrill Anderson C. Fockens Have Moved to Home by Bristow Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Focken jr. and family of Bristow were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Focken sr. The Clarence Fockens are get ting settled in their new home four miles of South of Bristow. They formerly lived at Leigh. Thursday evening guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Natchel Rzeszotarski were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Meals and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Meals of Atkinson. The weekend storm caused a number of school cancellations and some of the students attend ing school in Atkinson were snow bound for several days, either at home or in town. No school was held at the Celia school the first three days of the week as the teacher, Mrs. Albert Spann, was unable to get oat from Atkinson. Mrs. Leroy Hoff man made it to school Monday but did not try the roads Tuesday or Wednesday. Mrs. Emil Colfax is the only teacher reporting per fect attendance with no days lost. Michele Rzeszotarski was snow bound most of the week in Atkin son due to road conditions. Miss Rzeszotarski stayed with Mary Jo Humpel. Mr. and Mrs. Natchel Rzes zotarski and family were dinner guests Sunday of Mrs. Rzeszo tarski’s mother, Mrs. Bertha Gonderinger in Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Klinger and son, Terry, spent Tuesday until Friday afternoon at the Mark Hendricks home. Richard assist ed Mark with chores during the storm. Mark is slowly Improv ing from the results of his ac cident last week, but still has a very sore nose and some dif ficulty in breathing. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hendricks and family were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. anc Mrs. Ivan Wayman of O’Neil: Other dinner guests at the Way man home were Mr. and Mrs Bernard Lorenz. The Rev. and Mrs. Ivan Meyei and family of Wayne were guests Sunday at the home of the Rev Meyer’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Meyer sr. Kenneth Mey er, who is employed by the State Game Commission, spent sever al days visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs. Herman Meyer sr. and Beverly. He is presently working at Falls City. Mrs. Robert Hendricks and Mrs. Mark Hendricks attended a surprise birthday party for Mrs. Roy Thurlow at her home Friday afternoon. Birthday cakes were baked by Mrs. Celia Backhaus and Mrs. Charles Phipps. Mrs Thurlow was presented with a card and handkerchief shower. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hendricks and Arfin visited at the Connie Frickel home Sunday afternoon. The Celia 4-H club meeting is scheduled to be held Friday eve ning at the John Scbwindt home. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Hoffman and sons, Roger and Garry, and Mrs. Alice Hill were dinner guests Sunday at the Ed Hoffman home. Mrs. Leroy Hoffman attended an executive meeting of the Amer ican Legion auxiliary at the home of Barbara Mlinar in At kinson Saturday. The Legion birthday supper is to be held March 20 at the Legion hall. Mrs. Emil Colfax attended a bridal shower at the Butte Le gion hall Friday evening in hon or of Sandra Putnam of Butte. About 80 guests attended. Miss Putnam and Denton Colfax are to be married March 26 at the Lutheran church at Butte. Miss Putnam is the daughter of C. E. Putnam of Naper and is pre sently employed at the Snyder Grocery store at Butte. Mr. Col fax is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Colfax of Atkinson and is employed on a farm in Boyd county. Dennis Colfax spent Friday night and Saturday with his bro ther, Denton. Harold and Gerold Frickel, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Frick el who are attending Atkinson high school w«re snowbound in town and spent Tuesday night with Ed Hoffman.
