the ceremony.
A winter white, street length,
dress was chosen by the bride
and it featured three-quarter
length sleeves. She wore a short

held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the
St. Paul’s Lutheran church
in Chambers Miss Joyce Mik
kelsen, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Niels Mikkelsen of Cham
bers, became the bride of
Raymond McNair, son of Mr. and
Mrs. George McNair of O’Neill.
Pastor William Roten officiated
at the double ring ceremony.
The bride chose a blue knit
tiwo piece suit for her wedding and
her attendant, Mrs. Roy Moore,
wore a gray sheath dress. The
bride’s flowers were red and
white carnations formed in a cor
sage. Mrs. Moore wore a similar
corsage.
Mr. McNair was attended by
his brother, Kenneth. The cou
ple will reside in Neligti.

Weds Harold Burge
In Polk Saturday
POLK—The marriage of Miss
Helen Binford of Omaha, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bin
ford of Polk, to Harold Burge,
son of Mrs. Bessie Burge of O’
Neill, was solemnized at the
Methodist church here January
28 at 3 p.m.
The Rev. A. E. Hunter of Om
aha, assisted by the Rev. A. O.
Johns of Polk, performed the
ceremony. Mrs. Ivan Knode of
of Haxtjn, Colo., played nuptial
music and accompanied the solo
ist, Paul Ruch of Haxton.
A gown of brocaded satin was
chosen by the bride. It was styl
ed in princess lines, street length,

long tapered sleeves. Her veil of
illusion nylon net and Chantilly
lace was of elbow length and
was held by a crown of seed
pearls. She carried a corsage of
blue mums and white stephano
tis on a white Bible.
Mrs. Donald Ostberg of Stroms
burg, sister of the bride, was her
attendant and she was attired in
royal blue lace over matching
taffeta. She wore matching ac
cessories and carried a nosegay
corsage of pink carnations.
Clyde Burge of Amelia served
his brother as best man. Ushers
were Donald Ostberg of Stroms
burg and Paul Nielsen of Omaha.
Donnette Ostberg was flower
girl and Murray Ostberg was
ring bearer.
At the wedding reception at
tended by approximately 120
guests, Mrs. Dean Barge of Om
aha and Mrs. Glenn Hill were in
charge cf gifts. Mrs. Arlo Ste
vens registered the guests. Mrs.
Paul Ruch of Haxton, Colo., sis
ter of the bride, acted as hos
tess and also cut the four-tier
cake. Miss Nola Schantz of Oma

Mrs. Burge, a graduate of Polk
high school and Central college
of McPherson, Kans., taught in
the public schools at Polk and
York county for four years. Dur
ing the past 17 years she has
been a clerk at the Union Pacific
headquarters in Omaha

Mrs. Keith Jones of Atkinson,
sister of the bride, was an at

A buffet supper was given by
the bride’s parents after the cere
mony. A three-tier wedding cake
centered the bride’s table.
The couple is at home at the
V. D. Peterson apartment in At
kinson, following a wedding trip
to Grand Island, Lincoln and Om
aha. Mrs. Gordon has resumed
her duties at Consumers where
she is employed, and Mr. Gordon
will continue his ranching duties
with his father near Newport.

Mrs. Hill Entertains
Members of the Meet Thy
Neighbor club met January 25 at
the home of Mrs. Bob Hill. Mrs.
James McDonald was a visitor.
Music was the theme of the en
tertainment and musical bingo
and several other musical games
were enjoyed. The next meeting
will be a business meeting and
election of officers February 22
with Mrs. Hill.

ning, for their regular meeting.
Bill Miller, who made a tour

interesting travelogue and show

CLEARWATER—Mr. and Mrs.
W. H. DeCamp observed their
56th wedding anniversary at their

became ill at her home Friday
and was taken to St. Anthony’s

complications resulting from a
severe cold and bronchial trou
ble. . .Donald Hoffman took his
wife, Delores to Lincoln January
22nd where she entered the Lin
coln General hospital. She under
went surgery Monday morning
and he returned home that eve
ning. Mrs. Hoffman was dismiss
ed on Thursday and went to the
home of her uncle and aunt, Mr.
and Mrs. L. O. Lenz where she
remained until Monday.
AMELIA—The ten month old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lier
man has been seriously ill. His
doctor and a nurse from iBurwell
took him to a Lincoln hospital
Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Lierman

Missionaries Home
At Atkinson After
Service in Congo
ATKINSON—Rev. and Mrs. Er
nest Green and family arrived at
the home of Mrs. Green’s par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Houts
of Atkinson Friday.
Rev. and Mrs. Green and their
family of three children were
among the group of 29 American
missionaries arrested by Congo
lese soldiers at a frontier bridge
leading from the Congo to the
Ruanda-Urandi country.
They were taken captives to
Bukavu, capital of Kivu Province
but later were released un
harmed.
They arrived in New York Mon
day from the Congo and flew to
Omaha Wednesday where the
Rev. Mr. Green’s father, Roy
Green, lives.
The Rev. and Mrs. Green have
served as missionaries in the Af
rican Congo for many years.

Lorraine Ernst, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ernst of O’
Neill has been ordered out of
Congo, Africa where she has
been stationed as a teacher at
Rethy Missionary Academy.
Miss Ernst cabled her parents
Monday that all missionaries have
been requested to leave. She is
now at Nairobi, Kenya, Africa
and she informs the Ernsts that
her plans are indefinite.
This is the fourth year that
Miss Ernst has been in Africa
affiliated with the Africa Inland
Missionary Society. The first year
slie spent as Brussels, learning
French, and the past three years
have been at Rethy, where she
teaches French to seventh and
eighth grades, children of mis
sionaries and colonists.
Miss Ernst has apparently not
been in serious danger while in
Congo. The only evidence of up
rising troubles that she ex
perienced, according to letters to
her parents, was when leaving
Rethy. Soldiers would stop her
car between towns with exten
sive questioning of identification.

Son Has Surgery
ATKINSON—Neal S. (Tut) Mc
Kee, son of Dr. and Mrs N. P.
McKee of Atkinson, underwent
surgery last week in the Veterans
hospital at Denver. Surgery was
performed to correct a recurrent
fungus ailment with which Mr.
McKee has suffered since World
War H. He and his wife and
daughter, Terri Kee, reside at
Denver.
Returns from Hospital
A. L. Patton returned to O’Neill
Sunday from the Sacred Heart
hospital in Yankton, S. D., where
he underwent three-hour surgery
January 23. His wife reports that
he is much improved but that he
will have to recuperate at home
before returning to work.
Mrs. Winnie Barger and Mrs.
Melvin Ruzicka visited Friday and
Saturday at Grand Island with
Mrs. Pauline Walston.
Lee Brady attended a Cudahy
Packing company meeting at
Grand Island Thursday, Friday
and Saturday.
Leave for Arizona
Mrs. Ina Wolfe, Mrs. Alice
Matthews and Mrs. Mary Kelly
expect to leave for Winslow,
Ariz. to visit their sister and her
husband. Mrs. Kelly is making
plans to leave from Arizona for
Hawaii to visit her son, Marine
Officer James Kelly and his
wife.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wilson left
Wednesday for Omaha to attend
a Texaco meeting. They plan to
return Thursday.

of Lincoln are spending the week
with relatives and friends in At
kinson. They are both students at
the University of Nebraska in
Lincoln where he is studying
electrical engineering and she,
home economics. They will re

neighborhood. She had spent the
past two months with the Fred
Uhlir family. Mr. and Mrs. Uh
lir and Mrs. Forman spent Thurs
day at her former home, the late
Emil Forman farm, and served
dinner to the ones that helped
with the farm sale there that
day which was attended by a
large number considering the sub
zero weather. The Verdigre Me
thodist ladies aid served lunch. 1
