Girls 4-H club met at the Albert
Reynolds home Januray 22. The
meeting was called to order by
the president, Kathy Fick. Roll
call was answered by paying dues.
The projects lor this year were
discussed. It was voted to have
the next meeting February 19 at
the Reynolds home. After the
business meeting lunch was serv

spent the weekend visiting his
father, John Schrunk, and his

funeral of her brother, J. Robin
son. Slie also visited her son
in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Merle Carr and family at
llorniek, la., before returning
home.

The Inman Project club spon

and coffee Saturday afternoon at
Anthony’s market. This was a
benefit for the March of Dimes.
Arbutus Rebekah lodge met
weonesaay evening at tne tour
hall for the regular meeting.
John Brunckhorst, NG, was in
charge of the meeting. Ellen
Brown was installed as conduc
tor for the ensuing term. Sev
eral other matters of business
were discussed. Lunch was serv
ed at the close of the evening by
Mrs. James McMahan and Mrs.
John Mattson.

ed a party Friday evening at the

WSCS held their regular meet
ing Thursday afternoon at the
Methodist church annex. Mrs. El

meeting. Several items of busi
ness were taken care of at this
meeting. Mrs. Viola Herald re
ported on the Mission’s confer
ence meeting she attended re
cently at Grand Island. At the
close of the meeting lunch was
served by Mrs. Elsie Keyes.
David Sobotka, who attends Nor
folk Junior college, spent the

The past week has been one
of sub-zero weather reaching a
low of 21 below Tuesday morn
ing and has stayed cold all
week. We received a few snow
flurries but not enough to cover
the ground. On Sunday morning a
big flock of ducks were seen fly
ing due north. We hope thats
a sign of warmer weather.
Mrs. Edgar Peterson and Mrs.
Gertie Adair were O’Neill and
Atkinson visitors Monday after
noon.
Mrs. Lloyd Waldo was plea
santly surprised on her birthday
anniversary Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. George Fullerton invited her
over to her house and upon her
arrival there several had gathered
for the surprise party. Those pre
sent were Mmes. Gene Thomp
son, Dick Doolittle, Bill Thomp
son, Frank Tracy, Earl David and
Harlan Dierking.
Mrs. Bertha Sammons observed
her birthday anniversary Friday.
Mrs. Lew Backhaus prepared din
ner, and with Mr. Backhaus, took
it to Mrs. Sammons’ home. Mrs.
Vern Sageser also called there
that day.
Myrtle White spent the week
end with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Glenn White. Her birthday
anniversary was January 31. A
dinner in honor of the occasion
was enjoyed Saturday. Her grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Bar
nett, were present for the dinner.
Mrs. Blake Ott and Mrs. Floyd
Adams attended the polio bene
fit basketball game in Atkinson
Thursday evening. Sally Land
rum, Mrs. Ott’s granddaughter,
played with one of the grade
school teams.
Vern Sageser went to Sioux
City during the week to take
Merle Fagan of Chambers to his
doctor for a check-up. Mr. Fagan
has a broken hip suffered in a
truck accident some time ago. He
is getting along better now and
able to bear most of his weight
on the injured leg.
Mrs. Vern Sageser was a din
ner guest Thursday with Mr. and
Mrs. Link Sageser. It was Mrs.
Link Sageser’s birthday anniver
sary.
Word was received here that
Elmer Enbody of Winlock,
Wash., is seriously ill. His
daughters, Mrs. Tommie Doo
little, Mrs. Jim Bilstien and
Mrs. Eldon Ballagh left from
Grand Island early Sunday
morning by train to be with him.
His son, George Enbody of At
kinson went by way of his ear.
Mrs. Gertie Adair is staying
with the Doolittle family.
Scotty and Cathy Fix, children
of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fix have
been ill. Scotty had an ear in
fection.
Blake Ott was an O’Neill caller
Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees were
in O’Neill Thursday.
Mrs. Clifford Clemens was dis
missed from the Atkinson Memor
ial hospital and is in the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Porter in Chambers.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sander
son and baby of Chambers are
now living at the Edgar Jung
man ranch where Mr. Sanderson
is employed.
We recently learned of the
serious illness of Alex Cleary.
He is well knowai in this vicin
ity having been a merchant in
Atkinson for several years. His
present home is at Elgin and
we understand he is in an Oma
ha hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus
were Sunday dinner guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Vernon Berry. Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Berry of O’Neill
were also guests.
Little David Lee Svatos was
three years old January 24 and
in honor of the occasion his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sva
tos, entertained at a party for
him. Present were his grandpar
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Sva
