The Ed Walters family of Chambers and the Jerry Cuddy family of O’Neill were visitors Thursday evening at the John Napier home. The Alfred Napier family visit ed Tuesday evening at the George Keller home. JOLLY WORKERS The Jolly Workers club met Thursday at the Wilbur Bennett home. A covered dish luncheon was served at noon. Mrs. Bus Napier and Mrs. Roger Bennett were guests. The ladies quilted and did em broidery work. Twenty ladies an swered roll call with what they liked to do best in the line of fancy work. Thank you notes were read from the Will Shrader fam ily and Paul Gunter. The Riverside Free Meiho dist missionary society had an ail day meeting Monday with Beulah Fink. They worked on a quilt. Richard Taylor of Valentine vis ited Monday evening at the Grant Mott home. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Napier, Sjsan, Nancy and Rita visited Monday eve at the Wayne Fry home. Mr. Z. H. Fry went fishing at Pierre, S. D., Thursday. Mrs. Grant Mott, Mrs. Howard Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fink attended services at the Wesleyan Methodist church in O' Neill Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fry, Ju lie, Jane and Kevin were O’Neill visitors Monday morning. Mrs. Z. H. Fry was a guest at the Richard Napier home Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. George Montgom ery visited last Sunday at the Robert Montgomery home near Neligh. Ellen Miller, Jane Fry and Steve Anson started to kinder garten last Monday in the River side school district. Sharon Kropp is the teacher. Mrs. Alice Humpel is the teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kramer and John Kramer went to Lake Andes, S. D. Friday and were dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kramer and daugh ter. They also visited in the George Kramer home. Ed Cerny went to Sioux Fals, S. D. Thursday for a check up with his doctor. Donna Ahlers, Mabel Reissel man and Kay Putnam were ta ken to Norfolk Wednesday, to be models at the Beauty shop for Lou Ann Stahlecker, Karen Genetele and Sandra Putnam. Mr. and Mrs. George Ahlers and Mrs. John Stahlecker took them down. Mrs. Barbara Vogt, Ed Vogt, William Vogt and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vogt and family and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Vogt and sons of Herrick, S. D. went to the Henry Vogt home near Winner, S. Nancy Schmitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schmitz, was admitted to the Gregory hospital Saturday for medical care. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ahlers and family of Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ahlers and family were Sunday guests in the August Ahlers home to help Mrs. Ahlers celebrate her birth day. Mr. and Mrs. August Ahlers went to the Walter Ahlers home Sunday to help their granddaugh ter, Lou Ann, celebrate her birth day. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Whitley attended open house of the Lip pert Appliance line at Sioux Falls, S. D. Saturday evening and Sun day. J'ulius Serr visited with his bro ther, Chris Serr at Paxton, S. D. Sunday and in the Frank Ed wards home at Ainsworth. Verdigre News By Vac Randa Mr. and Mrs. Ben Roubicek lo cal Verdigre residents have left for the west coast to visit with their son and family, Dr. Carl Roubicek of Pheonix, Ariz. They also plan to visit with relatives in California. James J. Chalupnik, who start ed the local Verdigre Creamery 46 year ago, left with Mrs. Chal upnik last week for Excelsior Springs, Mo. and will remain there for several weeks. From there they plan to go to El Paso, Tex. and on into Mexico for a vacation. They will also visit with their daughter and son-in-law and family, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Col lins, of San Francisco, Calif. They expect to be gone for several weeks. Charles Soucek, who has a trap line about eight miles southwest of Verdigre caught a stray cat in one of his traps and when trying to release the animal was bitten by it on his hand. The cat was found to be rabid so anti-rabies shots have been given the lad last week. Charles is the nine year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Soucek of Verdigre. PLAN BAKE SALE The Catholic Daughters of America have made plans to hold a Bake Sale January 28. A Pre Lenten party will be held the first part of February. Hostesses at the meeting were Mrs. Louis Jarous, Mrs. Adolph Sukup, Mrs. Agnes Holan, Mrs. Edwin Pavlik, sr. and Mrs. Willard Ayers. Chambers News By Mrs. E. R Carpenter FAMILY NIGHT Family night was held at the Methodist church Sunday evening. There were about 50 present to enjoy the film. The first part of the church wide study on alco hol was presented. A gift was given to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cox who are leaving for Lincoln where he will enroll at the uni versity. Lunch was served in the basement and a social hour was enjoyed following the program. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Holcomb of Aurora were over night guests Saturday in the L. V. Cooper home. HONORED AT SHOWER Mrs. Larry Lieswald was hon ored at a shower given at the Lutheran church basement Sat urday. Members of the ladies aid were in charge of arrangements. “An Apple for the Teacher” was the theme of the program. Mrs. Charles Schmidt took the part of the teacher. The pupils, wearing juvenile attire, were Mrs. Vernon Smith, Mrs. J. W. Wal ter, Mrs. Lloyd Wintermote, Mrs. Wayne Peterson, Mrs. Victor Har ley and Mrs. Zane Rowse. Lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stevens, Cherilyn and Terry of Atkinson were Sunday dinner guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Carpenter. Mr. and Mrs. John Honeywell and Mrs . Charlotte Honeywell drove to Wahoo last Tuesday where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Dan Honeywell. They returned Thursday, stopping in Elgin where they were dinner guests of Mrs. Addie Batie. Gleason Grimes of Milford vis ited Keith Halsey Saturday night. He and Kieth were dinner guests of Gleason’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Grimes, Sunday. Wilbur Edwards brought his mother-in-law, Mrs. Edith Mc Clenahan home Thursday after she had spent about two weeks with them and the Raymond Ed wards family at Cushing. Mrs. Celia Christiansen spent from Thursday to Sunday of last week with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Hubei and family. Mrs. G. H. Grimes, Mrs. W. H. Crawford, Mrs. Lloyd Wintermote and Mrs. Frank Tracy attended the Holt County Council of Home Demonstration clubs in O’Neill Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wintermote and girls visited in the Mervin Hurtig home at Creighton Sunday. ST. PAUL’S AID St. Pauls Lutheran Ladies Aid met Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar DeHart had word that their granddaugh ter, infant baby of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Van Gerpen of Fremont had undergone surgery Tuesday. The little one was getting along well. Royal News By Mrs. R. J. Bering HOLD BENEFIT PARTY A card party was held Friday evening in the new Royal high school auditorium for the bene fit of the junior class. Sponsors of the event were the mothers of the class, Mrs. E. A. Rundquist, Mrs. James Peterson, Mrs. Millard Charf, Mrs. Clayton Meisner and Mrs. Vernon Rader. About $40 was received. Work on the stage is nearly completed and it is expected that dressing rooms and the cafeter ia will be ready before the time for holding the junior-senior ban quet. Dean Rundquist, brother of E. A. Rundquist of Royal, had been promoted to manager of the Shell Oil Co. plant at Mariet ta, Ohio. He is now in Holland, having been stationed there since July of last year he has been doing research. Terry Storm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Storm, who is teach ing in the grades at LaPlatte, has resigned his position effec tive the next semester and will return to school at Wayne where he’s working to obtain a degree to qualify for a high school position. He is an honor graduate of the Royal high school. Miss Sharon Jacobsen, student at Wayne Teachers’ College, was a weekend visitor at home. She was accompanied by a friend. Gary Storm, student at Norfolk Junior College, was a weekend visitor at home. Rudy Meisner came from Pierre Friday for the weekend with his wife and daughter, who are liv ing this winter with Mrs. Meis ner’s father, Frank Storm. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Blackburn were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Nordeen of Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hall were Sunday visitors at Herrick, S. D. with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stanton. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rassell Burch during the past week were Mr. and Mrs. Alva Rice of Clear water and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harvey of Clearwater. Sawyer, who was ill and confined to his home for two weeks, has resumed his instruc tions in all five schools where em ployed—Royal, Meadow Grove, Clearwater, Inman and Page.
