Amelia News By MIhs Florence LJndney Here we are back again for the first time in 1961. New Years day was sort of on the blizzard order. We did not have much snow here, but along about din ner time there was quite a bit of the white stuff in the air. Some folks did not venture out to keep their dinner engagements. Mon day morning was nice and sun shining brightly, but it was cold. The thermometer registered about 3 degrees above at 1 p.m. Emil Wolfe and a friend of Sargeant, spent a few days the past week with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs Dunk Peterson. Sister Mary Faith of Ogallala spent a few days during the holi days with her mother, Mrs. Blanche Omalley and brothers, Ix»o and Jerry O’Malley. Harry White and his daughter, Mrs. Jack (Clarice) Milton of Denver, Colo., called at the homes of Mrs. Bertha Sammons, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Barnett and the Lindseys Wednesday afternoon. Thursday they drove to Atkinson to visit Mrs. Julia White and Mrs. Myrtle Smith, then on to O’Neill to visit Mr. and Mrs. Ira Moss. Myrtle White accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nielsen and Rod ney to their home in Omaha Wed nesday and from there went to Mason City, la., to visit in the home of her fiance, Bob Bailey. They returned home Saturday and Mr. Bailey began teaching again the first of the week in the John Mohr jr., district after the holi day vacation. Johnnie Briener of Palmer vi sited over the New Year holiday with Don Adams. Mrs. Gertie Adair went to Chambers Saturday to be with her sister, Mrs. Stella Sparks, who was ill. A dinner in honor of the birth day anniversary of Debra Waldo and her aunt, Mrs. Ken Werner, of Chambers was given at the home of Debbies’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo Sunday. Present beside the honored guests were Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo, John Zinkon, Ken Werner and the Lloyd Waldo family. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Smith of Maxwell visited at the B. W. Waldos on Friday. They have been visiting their son, Hamp Smith and family the past week. Art Waldman returned home Thursday from Lincoln where he had been visiting his brother and sister, Henry and Clara Waldman. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce re turned home Tuesday from Oma ha after spending Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bligh. Mrs. Bligh drove home for them and returned to her home in Omaha the next day. The roads were very slick and icy on the way home and they could not drive over 35 miles an hour. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thompson visited Mrs. Lindsey and Florence Wednesday afternoon. Sgt. and Mrs. Clyde Primus and Diane of Junction City, Kans., visited at the Delbert Edward's during the holidays. Clyde will go to Germany in February for a two year stay. Mrs. Primus and Diane did not know if they would be allowed to go with him at that time. Mrs. Primus is teaching school in Junction City. Glenn White went to McPherson, Kan., Monday to take his nephew, David Adamson, and Marilyn Thompson back to their classes at Central college there. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Hatch returned to their home at Fort Collins, Colo., Sunday after spend ing the holiday here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Clemens, Fritz, Bisther, Betty, George, Con nie and Jimmie returned to their home in Henderson, Colo., Mon day. They were here during the Christmas vacation to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jungman near Atkinson and his parents, the Levi Clemens and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Milton re turned to their home in Denver, Colo., after spending the holi days with the Glenn White fami ly. Mrs. Miltons father, H. S. White, returned home with them to spend the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Earnie Johnston entertained at a New Years din ner for Mr. and Mrs. Vern Sageser, Mr. and Mrs. Link Sageser and Mrs. Edith Andersen. Mr. and Mrs. Dunk Peterson were New Years dinner guests at Lee Gilmans. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Sageser were O’Neill callers Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Peterson entertained at supper Tuesday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Hatch, Mr. and Mrs. Art Doolittle and Dale and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Adair, Jerry and Diane. Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Doolittle and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Doolittle and sons enjoyed an oyster stew at the Tom Doo little home Friday evening ob serving the wedding anniversary, of Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle sr. Sally Landrum of Atkinson spent the Christmas vacation with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Blake Ott. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Welton re turned to their home in Wenatc hee, Wash., after spending the Christmas holiday with relatives here and at Burwell and Atkin son. They were overnight guests on Thursday with her mother, Mrs. Maude Forbes. Mr. and Mrs. George Fuller+on and Mr. and Mrs. Kayo Fullerton were Friday evening supper guests at Gene Thompsons. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Doolittle, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ninham, Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton and Mr. and Mrs. Dunk Peterson were supper guests Thursday evening at the Town House in O'Neill in honor of the birthday anniversaries of Mrs. Gilman and Mrs. Doolittle. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Retzlaff of Chambers and their grandchild ren, Gloria and Rodney Retzlaff of Lynch, were supper guests on New Years of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Oetter. Lana and Janet. Mrs. Vern Sageser and Mrs. Link Sageser called on Mrs. Maude Forbes Monday. Everett Winings, daughter, Rita and son, Ronnie recently returned from Jewette, Ohio, where they had been called by the death of the childrens’ grand mother, Mrs. Mary Tipton. She died December 6. Ronnie was one of the pallbearers. Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton and Marvin Doolittle went to Fremont to spend New Years at the Leon Skala and Gene Skala homes. Mrs. Doolittle and sons, Ricky, Rodney and Timmy had been visiting in the Skala homes earlier in the week and returned home with them. Mrs. William Fryrear visited Mrs. Elmer Coolidge Monday af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Butterfield and family called on the Delbert Edwards family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Doolittle and Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Doolittle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Doolittle and boys, and Mr. and Mrs. Bemie Kennedy and Harold were New Years guests at Harold Fullertons. School clauses began Mon day morning after a week’s vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Orland Fry rear were New Years dinner guests with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Fryrear. (Last week’s News) Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hyland and Kay of Stuart, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gilman of Omaha were Christmas day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Everett and Harley Lee. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stoecker were Christmas dinner guests with the Arthur Hiatt family. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnston, Mrs. Tressa Wagner, Mrs. Edith Andersen and Mr. and Mrs. Link Sageser were dinner guests Christ mas day with Mr. and Mrs. Vem Sageser. Mrs. Margie Sammons enter tained the Sammon families Christmas Eve at the home of her son, Billie Sammons. Mr. and Mrs. Hob Adair, Jer ry and Diane, Mrs. Gertie Adair, Bill Gilman, Mrs. Stella Sparks and Lonnie were Christmas day guests at Art Doolittle’s. Mr. and Mrs. Gale Fix of Scottsbluff spent the Christmas weekend with the Prewitt and Fix families.
