A Poem
From Mrs. Eby •..
A Poor Boys Christmas Prayer
This year, dear Father send to
me, If you'please
New stockings, for mine are all
out at the knees.
New shoes, if you can manage—
how glad I’ll be!
For mine are all ragged and torn,
you can see.
For mother a coat—Though used
it may be—
Her’s she cut down for brother
and me.
For brother, lots of milk—he’s
tiny and frail, wish we could
buy that cow that’s for sale)
And dear Lord, for all that, we
would feel blessed,
And rich beyond words—I guess
I’m possessed to ask you for
more seems way out of reason
You’ll think I’m a hard one, Lord
to be pleasin;
Just one thing more, If I could
have my way,
Oh! could we have butter on our
bread Christmas day?
