The presentation of colors was given by the American Legi n fal lowed by a veterans prayer by Rev. Walter Seefeldt. A girls quartette with Linda Barton, Jan Withee. Claudia Mitchell and Sh;r ley Steinberg sang, "G d Bkss America' and "America the Beautiful.” Bob Hill, Lana Cleveland, Patty Meyer and Betty Von S* ggern gave four minute speeches on “I Speak for Democracy." The Or chard High school band played several numbers Mr. and Mrs Ray Reed and Mr anti Mrs. R, R. Retd went to Lincoln Monday to visit Frank Reed, who underwent surgery Monday. Mr. and Mrs C. E. Everhart of Orchard and Mr and Mrs George Vowhies of Elgin were Sunday guests in the home of Mr and Mrs. Sam Voorhies in Ndigh Donald Browning, son of Mr and Mrs. Mervm Browning of Omaha has been promoted to Captain in the army. Mr. and Mrs. Art Neuhouse were Friday evening visitors in the Henry Letterman home. Glen Miller and Sherry visited Mr. Miller's mother in Norfolk Monday. Pitch Club Pitch club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gurney Drayton’s Sunday evening. Mrs. Cecil Lee Gordon Drayton, Mrs. Ted Ber ry, Jim Clifton jr, and Gordon Drayton won prizes. Octette Bridge Octette Bridge met with Mrs. Lester Wtthee Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Jim Clifton, jr. and Ger trude Gribble were guests. Mrs Cecil Lee and Mrs. Jim Clifton won prizes. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Waldo Rodgers. W-SWS Meets Forty members and five vis itors, Mrs. Blanche Fietch r, Mrs. Archie Walton, Mrs. Har vy Holbrook jr., Gertrude Grib ble and Mrs. Sam Trussel were present Wednesday afternoon when Evangelical United Breth ren Women’s Society of World Service met at the church. Mines. Dwaine Lenz, Harold Mitchell Carl Nelson and Glen Miller were hostesses. Mrs. Wayne Lauten schlager, conducted the meeting Mrs. Hoyt Sirek had charge of the lesson “Home Mission Chal lenges for Today” assisted by Mrs. D. L. Fletcher, Mrs. Leon Mitchell, Mrs. Glen Miller, Mrs. D. Lenz, Mrs. Wayne Lauten schlager, Mrs . Marcia Munger and Rev. D. Lenz. The hostesses had a rummage sale after the business meeting followed by a lunch. The Thank offering boxes were received at this meeting. Garden Club The Orchard Club met with Mrs. Ernest Bruce Monday af ternoon with 13 members pre sent. Mrs. Blanche Fletcher con ducted the business meeting. Mrs. D. Lenz gave the opening poem. Each member answered roll call by giving “Thankful Thoughts”. Mrs. D. L. Fletcher presented each member with several tube rose bulbs. The society voted to have a luncheon December 5 at the home of Mrs. Henry Drayton Mrs. George Johnson became a member of the club. Mr. James McDonald and sons of O'Neill called at the Ralph Brookhouser home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Bartos and family visited there Saturday. Grandma Evans quietly cele brated her ninty seventh birthday Tuesday, Nov. 8. Grandma has been bed fast for the past three years since she suffered a slight stroke. A Bridal Shower was held Thursday, Nov. 10 for Miss Karen Held at the Walnut Lutheran church. A large group of ladies attended. Games were played Mrs. Vernon Strope and Mrs. Vol don Godel received prizes. The Anniversary Club ladies were hos tesses. Lunch was served at the close of the evening. Mrs. Arcnie Moser and Mrs Harry Caskey helped Mrs. Joe Eggerling of Creighton dress chickens Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Pierce at tended the rural fireman meet ing at Verdigre Thursday evening. Mrs. H. J. LoMasters entertain ed the Work and Pun club at her home on Thursday. Eleven mem bers were present. The afternoon was spent in quilting.
