Ballantyne and daughter, Mrs. Faye Irene, Page residents, who are living tempor arily in Independence, Mo have returned from a trip through eight western and southwestern states. They drove nearly 5000 miles with temperature range from 27 degrees to 110 degrees and elevations from sea level to nearly 16,000 feet above sea level, Some of the high lights of their trip included a mule trip down into the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River and back up to the rim of the canyon on nar row rocky shelf trails hewn out of the sides of the canyon walls, a side trip through southwestern California to a noncommercialized Pacific Ocean beach, visiting with former Page residents which in cluded Mrs. Ballantyne’s brother, Harold Wegman, at Modesto, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs Alden Riggs and daughter and their families all in Richmond, Calif , — a tour of the San Francisco Bay area and driving and hiking through Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks and Arches National Monument. Miss Ballantyne is continuing her nurses training through the Independent Sanitarium and Hos pital in Kansas City, Mo. where she is taking pediatric training. Mrs. Ballantyne is beginning her fourth year of teaching in an elementary school in the Inde pendence school system. Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Kemper and Lynette of Osage, Kan. were Wednesday afternoon callers in the home of Mrs. Frieda Asher Little Lyoette is the great-grand daughter of Mrs Asher. The Kexn pers and Mr and Mrs Smith were guests n the Herbert Kemper home fur a few days. Mrs Otto Maffichullat, presi dent at the American Legion Aux iliary, requests that all members that haven't paid their 1961 dues, please do so by September 23 so that a good showing of mem bership can be taken to the Dis trict convention at Wausa on the 26th of September. There were eight members and one guest, Mrs. Robert VanHorn, pre sent. The ladies spent the after noon in doing their own needle work September 27 hostess will be Miss Bonnie Bernholtx. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Maffichullat arrived home on Wednesday from spending a few days visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Maffichullat and their family at Western Springs, 111. which is a suburb of Chicago. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown at Michigan City. While at Wayne's the Mat schullats talked via the telephone to another son, Carl and his fam ily in Cleveland. Mr. and Mrs. Henry \Villie and Mrs. Laura Asher, all of Chat field, Minn, arrived here on Wednesday, and Mrs. Asher was a huuseguest of Mrs. Frieda Ash er and the Willies stayed at the home of Mr and Mrs. Edd. Cards famished the afternoon's entertainment with Mrs. George Wettlaufer win ning high score and Mrs Glenn Harris winning the door prize. In honor of Neil’s fifth birthday he and his sister, Lisa, and par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Asher were Sunday dinner guests at the Lloyd Fusselman home. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Willie and Mrs. Laura Asher of Chatfield, Minn, were Friday night supper and overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Spangler. Mrs. Merwyn French sr. left on Wednesday for a two week's va cation with her daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Frels of Hershey, while Mr. French is away. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Olson of Oakland came Friday to spend two weeks with Mrs. Merwyn French jr. while Mr. French went fishing. Merwyn French sr. and son, Merwyn jr. went to Lamberton, Minn, to the Clifford French home and accompanied Clifford French and sons, Dean and Greg to St. Francis, Canada for two weeks of fishing. WSCS Announce Coming Events. The regular meeting of the WSCS was held on Thursday at the Fellowship Hall over the Methodist church with over 30 members and two guests, Mrs. Earl Stevens and Mrs. Anna Smith present. Mrs. Edgar Stauffer had the devotion and meditation on the 20th anniversary of the WSCS which will be celebrated this month. Ada Mead was the per son deserving the most credit for the starting of the then new organization. Only seven charter members were present on Thurs day. The business part of the meet ing was conducted by the pres ident, Mrs. J. W. Finch. Mrs. Ed gar Stauffer, chairman of the kitchen committee reported on the stainless steel flatware they want to buy. It was announced there will be a teacher’s reception on Septem ber 20 at the Church. It will be a covered dish supper to start at 6:30, that the county conven tion of the WCTU was to be held on Friday afternoon at the church and the fall seminar will be held on Friday, Sept. 30th at Atkinson. A luncheon will be served at noon. An executive meeting will be held the evening of the 26th of September. Get well cards were signed to be sent to Dean Taylor of Jack 1 sonville, Florida and Mrs. Hattie Carson. Thank You cards were read from Carolyn Max and Miu Eddie Lew ton of Dea Moines, la. Hostesses were Mesdames Roy Zellers and Jesse Kelly. TEA HONORS MOTHERS Mother’s 4 H tea waa held on Saturday afternoon at the Metho dist Church with a large crowd attending A song of welcome was sung by DeLila Hansen, Jane Beelaert, Roberta and Laurie Scheinost and Carol Thompson. This was followed by introduction of leaders and 4-H officers by Mrs. A. T. Crumly . A demonstration was given by Jolene Grass and Linda Thomp son. The group then sang "Mock ing Bird Hill," followed with a piano solo, "Skater's Waltz", by Linda Thompson, a demonstration on cornbread by DeLila Hansen and Carol Thompson, a song of thanks by the girls to the leaders, and an accordian solo of "Sail Along Silvery Moon" by Joleen Grass. Arranging cookies attract ively on a tray was then shown by Jane Beelaert, Roberta and Laur ie Scheinost. A style review fol lowed accompanied on the pi ano by Carolyn Max. The pro gram ended with the group sing ing "Under the Bamboo Tree." The group singing of girls was accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Roy Hansen. The record books were judged by one member of the thre " extension clubs. Peggy won the Betty Crocker ci presented to her by Mrs. Dale Stauffer. Mesdames Merwyn French jr., Evelyn Gray and L. F. Knudsen attended on Tuesday an afternoon and evening session of the East ern Star honoring the guards and officers of the district. Mrs. French sang "Trees", accompan ied by Mrs. Knudsen on the pi ano. While she was singing, Mrs. Tom Lambert drew with chalk a golden maple tree on the black board on which she later gave a talk. Lloyd Lemmerman and Larry of Arlington visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Stauffer. Mr Lemmerman, who is a brother oi Mrs. Stauffer, is recovering from a burns received m s May 8th ex plosion. Mrs Dale and Mrs Edgar Stauf fer left Monday for McCook where they attended the Extension Home Service Convention. They returned on Thursday Deloit News By Mrs. B. Reimer Mrs. Mary Stearns returned to Norfolk with Mr. and Mrs. Hom er Seta ms on Sunday for a few days visit at the Stearns home. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jewell and Mrs. Myrtle Jewell of Dallas. S. D. spent Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Johnny Bauer and Ralph Tomjack homes. Mr. and Mrs Ralph Tomjack spent Sunday in Omaha at the Gene Ray home. Gene underwent surgery on Thursday Mrs. Otto Reimer of Lincoln spent from Monday till Wednes day at the E. L. Sisson home while Otto was on a business trip to Kansas City. Mrs. Ralph Tomjack called on Florence Butler in Ewing recent ly. Mrs. Butler had been ill. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tom jack spent Thursday evening at the Henry Reimer home. Mary Miller, only daughter of Mrs. Minnie Miller of Deloit com munity and Richard Johnson of Omaha were married in Omaha on Saturday. They will make their home there where they are employed. Mrs. Vonnie Paul and Nancy attended the wedding in Omaha on Saturday of Mary Miller. Gene Bartak is a sophomore at Wayne State Teachers College. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Munson of Norfolk and Mrs. Alice Lodge of Elgin were supper guests at the L. L. Bartak home Saturday eve ning in honor of Mr. Bnrtak’s birth day anniversary.
