Stuart News By Mrs. Herb 8tele The Hi Five Club met at the home of Mrs Clem Olberding on Friday. Prize winners were Mrs. &arl Bernt, high score, Mrs L H. Stemhauser second and Martha Baum low. Minnie Haskins will be the next hostess. Saturday callers of Mrs. H. E. Newman were Mr. and Mrs. Vir gil Barker of Scott*bluff Donna Fox spent the Labor Day weekend with Mr and Mrs James Nachtman while her par ents were in Colorado. Mrs. James Nachtman and Ailolph spent Sunday visiting Mrs Nachtman's sister, Mr. and Mrs Otto Vesely at Verdel, The Cleveland Progressive club met September 1 at the home of Mrs. George Shald with ten members answering roll call with their favorite salad. Initiation of four new members who have joined in the last year was held. They are Mrs. Don Bernt, Mrs. Willy Schom, Mrs Bud Meusch, and Mrs Fred Mitchell. The af ternoon was spent sewing quilt blocks for the hostess. Mrs. Ed Meusch and Mrs. Fred Mitchell won the contest prize. A lunch was served by the hos tess. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Dick Straka. Don Schmaderer returned to Chadron college after spending the summer with his parents, Mr and Mrs. Joe Schmaderer jr. Wednesday afternoon Bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Barbara Cobb. Mrs, Walter Smith won first prize and Mrs. Bill Stracke won second. launch was served by the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Oligmueler of West Point were Friday and Saturday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bose and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Lane. Mrs. Ludwig Myers sr., and Mrs. Ludwig Myers jr., of Den ver, Colo., are spending some time with Mrs. Myer's sr. parents. Mr and Mrs. Frank Bose. Monday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs John Weichman were Mr and Mrs. James Redding of Hamilton, la. Mrs. Redding is a cousin of Mrs. Weichman. Jamboree Planned The Legion auxiliary met September 1 with 19 members answering roll call. Colors were advanced by Mrs. LaVern Olberd ing and Mrs. Ivo Shald. It was decided that the auxili ary would sponsor a jamboree on September 28 from 8 until 10 p.m. for all children in grade school and pre-school children. Appointed to serve at the jam boree were Mrs. George Kohle, Mrs. Bud Kunz, Mrs. Ray Estes, Mrs. R. C. Patterson, Mrs. Bill Wedige, Mrs. Bill Kohle, Mrs. Louis Shald and Mrs. Bert Kunz. Amelia News Ity MIm Florence Lindsey This community was saddened to hear of the death of George Flem ing of Burwell on Thursday, Sept. 8 Mr. Fleming wus an employ ee of the Burwell postoffice. Dur ing the noon hour he and Mrs. Fleming were enroute to the home of his sister when he suffered a heart attack and died instantly. Mrs. Fleming is the former Dorothy Ballagh. Little Shelly Miles of O’Neill is visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Kennedy while her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arlen Miles are on vacation. Roger Waldo and some of his classmates from Chambers high school were working for B. W. Waldo Saturday to earn votes for the “King” of their class. They receive a vote for each penny earned Roger is the candidate of j the sophomore class and Darla | Waldo is candidate for "Queen" of the freshman class. The final selection will me made Friday evening at the annual j homecoming event. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bilstien cel ebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary Friday evening at the home of her brother, Bus Embody in Atkinson. Don Adams of Omaha spent the weekend at home with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs Floyd Adams. Mrs. Maude Forbes accompan ied her daughter, Mrs. Paul Briggs and family to their home near Rose on Friday. Mrs. Forbes was hostess to the Missionary Society of which she is a mem ber on Tuesday at the Briggs home. She expected to return to Amelia on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ninham, Mr and Mrs. Dunk Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Doolittle and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman enjoyed dinner at the Legion club in Burwell on Tuesday evening, Sept. 6. The oc cassion honored the birthday an niversaries of Mrs. Ninham, Mrs. Peterson and George Fullerton. There was a severe electrical storm in our vicinity last Wednes day. Bernard Blackmore, Dean Prewitt and Eamie Johnston were in the hayfield and all sitting in a pickup while it was raining. One bolt of lightening struck just in front of their pick-up and be tween several stacks of hay and immediately following another bolt struck just behind the pick up Very luckily no one was hurt and no fire was started.
