Mrs James lmaley conducted the devotional period and Mrs. Willis Rockey the lesson. The Society will purchase Bi bles to be presented to pupils who will be promoted from third grade to fourth and have mem orized the required scriptures to this grade. Mrs. Edna Lofquest was a guest at the Belle Mott home at Page Thursday when she entertained the missionary society of the Wes leyan Methodist church. Mrs. J. H. Wurnier of Stanton, a former resident of the Ewing community for many years, came Sunday to iqiend the week at the home of Mrs Grace Bnggs. She also called on many old friends and neighbors while here. Vance Anson of Neligh formerly of Ewing, who has been a patient at (he Antelope Memorial hos pital, was transferred to an Om aha hospital on Monday for ob servation. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schroder were Sunday dinner guests at the home of their son and daughter in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schroder and family at Neligh. In the aftermxm the families drove to Plainview to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Traugott Krueger. The members of the Methodist Sunday School Board mot Tues day evening at the home of Su perintendent and Mrs. Dewitt Hoke. Mrs. Willis Rockey superin tendent of the Primary Depart ment and Mrs. Ray Sedivy gave a report on the work being ac complished and attendance. Rally Day for the Sunday school will be Sunday, Sept. 25. Plans were made for a short program followed by promotions and re wards for one year perfect at tendance. This will be presented during the worship hour rather than at the Sunday school hour as has been done in the past. A special invitation is to be given all parents for the occasion. Carpenter WSCS MEETS Thirty live members and friends of the WSCS met Thursday af ternixm at the Methodist church. A short Prayer service conducted by Mrs. Louis Neilson preceeded the regular lesson. Mrs. Darrell Gillette conducted the worship portion and Mrs. G. H. Adams the lesson on “Chart and Com pass ". A panel group consisting of Mrs. T. E. Newhouse, Mrs. E. H. Medcalf and Mrs. John Wintermote discussed the world wide asjiects of the work of the Woman’s Society of the church today compared with the duties of members of the Ladies Aid of former years Mrs. Guais Wintermote conduct ed the business session. She told of the fall seminar to be held at Atkinson September 30 and urged ail officers and others to attend. Mrs. G. H Adams gave a report on the qtuadremal goals and Mrs. James Grimes a mis sionary minute. Mrs. E. R. Car penter discussed the fellowship of intersession and gave each a card to sign. The group adjourned to the basement for a program in honor of the twentieth anniver sary of the society and also for those whose birtlidays occured during the months of July, Aug ust and September. The Charier members of the society were seated at a specially decorated table, the others at ta bles in keeping with their birth day month. Mrs .Steve Shavlik and Mrs Darrell Gillette present ed a litany at which time the candles were lighted on the cake. Mrs Jutte and Mrs. Eric Retzlaff were chosen delegates with Mrs. Victor Har ley and Mrs. John Bulhman, al ternates. The ladies aid will meet the first Thursday of October next time due to the conflict of dates with the Rally at Lynch The group voted to send $10 to the synodical budget. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scott went to Ewing Sunday where they vi sited their son-in-law and daugh ter. Mr and Mrs. Milan Welke and family. They also helped the Welke family move. Wind, hail and rain struck a small area south of Chambers Wednesday evening. Some win dows were blown out, buildings twisted, trees broken off and hay stacks damaged at the W'll kensons, Fluckeys and other places.
