Carlson, Vernon Rockey Receive Degrees Two commencement exercises this month, one in Flordia, the ot her in California were of special interest to the people of Ewing. Mrs Catherine Rockey Carlson of West Palm Beach, Fla. received her Master’s Degree from the Miami University in the field of concen tration and counseling June 9. Mrs. Carlson graduated with the class of 19 !> of the Ewing high school. She attended Wayne 9tate Teachers College, receiving her BA degree in 1954 Before moving to Florida, Mrs. Carlson taught several years in Orchard and Roy al, three years in Ewing and one in a rural school. Vernon C. Rockey was graduated from the Los Angeles College of Optometry. The commencement and conferring of the defree of Doctor of Optometry was held Sun day, June 5, at the University of Southern California. Dr. Rockey was also born and raised in Ewing He graduated from the Ewing high school with the class of 1952. He attended Ne VERNON ROCKEY bra ska Wesleyan University and Wayne State Teachers College be fore enlisting in the Array. After his discharge he attended Adams State College before enrolling at the Los Angeles College of Op tometry. He is married and has three children. They will make their home at Grand Junction, Colo, where Dr. Rockey will practice. Mrs. Carlson and Dr. Rockey are the brother and sister of Mrs. Grace Zimmerman and Willis Roc key both of Ewing. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Rockey, were life long residents of the Ewing community before moving to Flor ida some time ago. C Hahl beck, Mrs James Tinsley and Mrs Althea Peterson. ARC H DIOCESE MEETS A meeting of the Omaha Arch Diocese was held at St. Peter’s church and St Dominic’s hall Fri day. Forty-six members were in attendance. The O’Neill deanery was the hostess. Mrs. John McGovern of Omaha presided at the business session Two topics of discussion were the revision of their constitution and the national convention of the Na tional Council of Catholic Women, to be held in September. Funeral services were held Thursday at Kelso Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Malone and baby of Newcastle. Wyo., ar rived Juno 2 to visit Mr and Mrs John Miksch. Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Volt and Mr. ami Mrs Jerry Batterman and girls, all of Hastings and Mr. and Mrs Francis Trausch of Roseland, arrived Sunday to visit in the John Miksch home and to bo present for the wedding of Bob Miksch. The group were supper and evening guests in the Ralph Btx’kwith home. The Cali fornia guests are Mrs. Don Beck with’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Kasper Harley of Stuart and Mr. aixl Mrs. Arthur Harley of Atkinson visited relatives at Plainview Thursday. Little Ste vie and Carols Patrice remained in O'Neill with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beckwith. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marston and family left Thursday for then new home at Cedar Rapids, la. They were guests in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harden Anspach. Mrs. John Conard of Emmet and Mrs. Harden Anspach went to Sioux Falls, Saturday where they met Mr. and Mrs. Rex Oberle of Min neapolis, Minn, and Mr. and Mrs. Romey South of Inman. The lat ter couple have been guests of their son-in-law and daughter, the Obcrles at (Minneapolis since Mem orial Day and returned to their hpme. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Kimbrogh 1 of Geneva were Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mr., and Mrs. Claude Bates. They also vis ited Mr. and Mrs. James Curran and Mrs. William Grutsch. Mrs. Clay Johnson jr. was in charge of the worship service and study Friday afternoon when the WSCS members met at the Meth odist church parlors for their reg ular meeting. The lesson theme was "Send Thee Forth With Joy”. Those taking part were Mesdames Orville Nickeson, Mrs, Roy Way man, Mrs. Dale Perry and Mrs. Clay Johnson. Mesdames Bob Tomlinson, Ro bert Miller, Ben Miller and Nels Lindquist and Vicky Sue surprised Mrs. Fred Timmerman Monday for a morning coffee.
