There will be a Holt County meet
ing at the Legion club at Page on
Monday night, May 16th. The in
vited guests for the evening are
Mrs. William Cox of Pierce, dis
trict pnesident; Mrs. Stan Huffman
of Ewing, department chairman of
youth activities; Mrs. A1 Chavet
of Plainview, district charman of
youth activities and Ken Yost of
Kenesaw, who is a candidate for
department commander. There will
also be a film on the three Ne
braska Veterans hospitals.
On Thursday morning the an
nual May breakfast was held in the
Wesleyan room of the Methodist
Church with 57 signing the register.
Before breakfast., the group sang
Grace. Mrs. Jobs Stetrtberg, who
was in charge of the program, of
fered a prayer Theme for the
breakfast was Stewardship" The
table was beautifully decorated
with blooming viol eta.
Mrs. Harold Heiss, vice-president
of the W. S. C. S. introduced Mrs.
Jessie Crank ami Mrs. Clarence
Stevens and told the group of the
wonderful work they have done
and who were awarded a life-time
membership in the W. S. C. S.
Mrs. Heiss pinned Mrs. Cronk and
Mrs J. W. Finch, president of the
W. S. C. S. pinned Mrs. Stevens.
Mrs. Carl Max, outgoing president
of the Kings Daughter's was pre
sented to the group by Mrs. Non
man Trowbridge. She too was
award a lifetime membership. |
There were two hymns sang by
Mesdames Dale Stauffer, Kenneth;
Heiss, Norman Trowbridge and!
Verne Linnaus with Mrs. L. F
Knud sen accompaning them on the
piano. Mrs. Corries Walker gave a
reading entitled "I'm fine for the
shape I’m in".
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nissen went
to Norfolk to pack up them daugh
ter, Dixie who is a student nurse
at Bryan Memorial at Lincoln, she
was here from Thursday to Sun
day.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Finch were
Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. 1 mane Finch. Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Zimmerman and Harold
Gerdes of Osmond were evening
callers.
Mr and Mrs. Kenneth Waring of
O’Neill went to bring Mrs. Alta
Finch back to Page. She had been
there visiting for the past ten days.

Jeanette Harper, a student at
the College of St. Mary in Om
aha won first prize in a language
contest. It was entitled, "Why I
Would Advise My best friend to
take a foreign language”. The
prize was $25.00. She is the daugh
ter! ’of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Har
per, formerly of this area, but who
now now live in Chicago. Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Harper are the pater
nal grandparents.
Mr. and Mrs. Tony Mudloff and
Brenda spent the weekend in Om
aha where they visited their
daughter, Leona and Tony’s two
sisters, Miss Madelyn Mudloff and
Mrs. Suzanne Hill, both patients in
a hospital due to a oar accident.
Mrsv Paul Hartigan was hos
tess to a party on Friday after
noon. There 15 guests present and
Mrs. L. F. Knudsen won the door
prize.

A quartet, the Misses Joan Fish

tle Worm”. They were accompan
ied by Bonnie Crumly.

served the banquet.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Tikalsky
were Mother’s Day guests in the
home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Thomas Goodart has contracted
to teach Math, Science and Shop
at the Oakdale high school this
coming year.
Mr. and Mrs. Goodart will at
tend the summer session at the
University of Nebraska. Mr. Good
art has been awarded a Nation
al Science Foundation scholarship
in mathematics.
The Good arts will move their
household goods to Oakdale as soon
as housing can be made available.
They have two young sons.

Shanon were Sunday guests in the
home of his mother, Mrs. Minnie
Hansen at Creighton. Delila accom
panied Mr. and Mrs. John Sor
ensen and the twins, Lloyd and
Floyd, to Grand Island where they

home of their son-in-law and daugh

The Lions Club met Tuesday
evening, May 3rd at the M and G
Cafe for their regular meeting and
election of officers.
Mr. Gary Nelson, president con
ducted the business meeting. Elec

ger, second vice-president; Gus

Larry Turner, math teacher at
Butte high school took the follow

urday and they entered a math con

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Collins and
Warren Collins drove to Omaha
last Friday and from there Mrs.
Collins left by train for Williams
burg. Va. where she will spend
sometime with her daughter and
son-in-law, Pfc. and Mrs. Douglas
Dix.
Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Anderson
left for Denver, Codo. where they
will visit their daughter, Miss Jane
Anderson.
Brenda Mask was hostess at a
surprise birthday party at her home
Monday evening in honor of San
dra Fried on her 15th birthday.
The P. E. O. members held
their regular meeting Wednesday
evening, May 5th at the Anchor
Room with Mrs. Warren Fernau as
hostess.
Mrs. W. L. Brennan gave a very
interesting lesson on “Facts about
U.S. Currency and Extraordinary
Counterfeiting”. Following the les
son a dessert luncheon was served.
The Boyd County Music Festival
will be held (today) Thursday, May
12 in the Butte high school gym

Marcellus will graduate from
Wayne State Teachers College at
Wayne.
The Bernice Chapter O. E. S.
met at the Masonic Temple Mon
day evening, May 2nd for their
regular meeting. Mrs. Carl Cun
rung ham and Mrs. Wand Barnes of
Naper served lunch.
Tire athletic banquet was held
Tuesday evening. May 3rd at the
high school gym honoring football,
basketball and track boys and pep
club. The dinner was prepared by
the pep club mothers and financed
by the Lion's club.

Martin Renner, welcome; Carol Ol
son, sportsmanship; Russell Lut.h,
pulling together; Terry Fried, off
