They took a picnic dinner and had a wiener roast. The eighth grade pupils accom j panned the county group on the ous trip to Sioux City, la. on Wednesday. Darla Waldo, Lana Kay Oetter, Joyce Doolittle and Billie Hansen are the 8th graders in Amelia They took the 8th grade examinations Friday. Mrs Vem Sageser and Mrs. Link Sageser attended Garden dob meeting Tuesday evening, May 3 at the home of Mrs. Mark Grabble near Chambers. Womens Society of Christian Ser vice met Wednesday, May 4th at the home of Mrs. Vem Sageser. There were 15 members and a visitor present Mrs. Ralph Rees was the lesson leader. Her topic ] was "The Light of the World”. Mrs. Blossom Butler and Mrs. Link Sageser served on the lunch conun ittee. Mrs. Edith Andersen went up to Earnie Johnston’s on Tuesday and helped Mr. and Mrs. Johnston and Lew Backhaua to saw wood for her. The Johnstons brought in a load of wood for heir that evening. Mrs. Nellie Holcomb of Bayside Cahf has been visiting her daugh ter, Mrs. Clyde Burge and fam ily. She came to attend the wed ding of her grandson, Gene Can to Joann Soukup. Mrs. August Puspichal and son, Richard were visitors at Ord Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Milton of Denver, Colo, visited at the Lind sey and Ms. and Mrs. S. C. Bar nett homes Friday afternoon. They returned to their home in Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus vis ited at the Ed Boshart home north of O’Neil] Sunday. Mrs. Bob Adair, Jerry and Di ane, Mrs. Gertie Adair and Mrs. Shell Sparks were O’Neill shop pers Saturday. We received approximately 3.5 inches of moisture in Thursdays rainfall. The road to Atkinson was almost impassible as the approach es to several of the bridges were washed oat. It really looks good to see the ponds and ditches filled with water. Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton went to Lincoln Monday to move thein daughter, Phillis back home after completion of her beauty course at a Lincoln school. They returned home Tuesday. Mrs. Blake Ott visited her aunt, Mrs. Bertha Sammons on Satur day taking her some pansy plants far Mother’s Day. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bilstien and Dick were Sunday dinner guests at Tommie Doolittles. Mr. and Mrs. Art Doolittle and Dale, and Mrs. Gertie Adair were dinner guest Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Adair in honor of Mo ther's Day. Mrs Delia Ernst received two long distance calls Saturday eve ning fon Mother’s Day. Mrs. Em mett Carr., (Mary Clare Waldman) phoned from Santa Monica, Calif, and Mrs. Gladys (Kennedy) Moore called from Springfield, 111. Mrs. Gertie Adair also received a long distance call from her da'jghber Mrs. William (Joan) Schmit of Des Moines la. i Rev. Dean Smith, Elder of the Free Methodist church was at the Bethany Free Methodist church last weekend for Quarterly Conference. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees were Atkinson callers Saturday after noon. Mrs. Rees visited Mrs. Julia Samples and Mrs. Pat Carrigan while there. Mrs. Julia White returned to her home in Atkinson Sunday after spending the week with friends and relatives around Amelia. She visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Burge, Bruce and Joyce and Mrs Nellie Holcomb of Bayside, Calif, went to Omaha to spend the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nielsen and Rodney. Miss Florence Lindsey and her mother, Mrs. Emma Lindsey, Mrs. Delia Ernst and Mrs. Julia White were dinner guests Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles McMillan and Mrs. Rosa Snelson in Atkin son. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Sperling and children of Cotesfield visited at Lloyd Waldo's Wednesday. The census taker, Tom Lambert of Chambers called on the Amelia folks Thursday. Mrs. Blossom Butler plans to leave Friday, May 13, for Hays, I Kan. where she will operate the Cactus Motel. Her mother, Mrs. George Withers wiU accompany her for a two week's visit. While she is there her son, Harold phapman of Topeka. Kah. will Visit her for • his birthday anniversary. Mr. Chap man ' has never- missed spending that occasion with his mother.
