Plant Trees
On Arbor Day
Members of the Happy Helpers
4-H club, an all girl club, complet
ed a “make your city beautiful"
project, Friday when they planted
two Persian lilac shrubs behind the
City library celebrating Arbor
Day.
Mrs, Guy Johnson was chairman
of the committee and Kathy Far-1
tier, Sandra Philbrick and Rose
Templemeyer chose the shrubs and
made the planting arrangements.
Mrs. Harold Mlinar is leader of the
club.
Arnolds To Lincoln
Mr. and Mrs. Helmut Arnold,
Michael, Gretchen and Martin, will
leave Friday for Lincoln where
they will make their home. Mr.
Arnold is with the I>epartment of
Roads and will tx> a member of the
Design division department in the
Lincoln office. He will not be re
placed at the O’Neill office.
Local Girl Elected
Miss Agnes Claire Hickey was
elected state monitor of the Neb
raska Catholic Daughters of Amer
ica at the 19th biennial state con
vention held at Hastings over the
weekend.
Also attending from the local
court was Miss Kathleen Warnke.
Miss Hickey’s term is two years.

Burned Severely
t
AMELIA John Zinkon received
third degree burns on his leg while
helping burn weeds at a neigh
bors last week.
His pants leg caught fire but he
did not think the burns serious
at the time. The next day his bro
ther-in-law, B, W. Waldo, took him
to the doctor and the burns were
found to be serious.
It is expected that the burns wall
hamper him for a number of
months. He is at the home of his
sister and brother-in-law and is
bedfast most of the time.
Census 75% Complete
The Holt. Boyd, Garfield and
Wheeler count for the 1960 census
count as of last Monday was 75%
complete showing a total of 18.002.
Complete figures will lie avail
able in two weeks.
The count for the 21 counties in
the Grand Island district was
148,000.
Accident Victim
Buried at Ewing
Funeral services were held Wed
nesday at the Christian church at
Wakefield at 10:00 a.m. and at
2:00 p.m at Ewing for C.len Vos
kamp, 38, manager of the Wald
baum egg drying plant at Wake*
field.
He was killed instantly when the
motorcycle he was rid'.ng went
out of control and ran into the side
of the municipal water building
near the city light plant.
Burial was made at Ewing un
der the direction of Bressler Bros,
funeral home.
Survivors include the widow and
three daughters.

April 20 at the Christ Lutheran
Church in O’Neill.
Rev. A. S. Gedwillo officiated
the 7 p.m. double ring ceremony
with members of the immediate

The bride wore a white dress
of ballerina length with a lace
bodice. She carried a bouquet of
white carnations.

rural homemakers day Tuesday,
April 19, held at Sioux City, la,
sponsored by the Chamber of
Commerce of the city. She was one
of the 57 homemakers chosen for
outstanding activities.
She has been a member of tlie
Facts and Fun extension club in
Ewmg four years, also served as
group chairman in the Ewing cen
ter. This year slve holds the of
fice of county chairman of the
Holt County extension council. She
is the wife of a rancher and farm
er in the Ewing and Page areas
and the mother of one daughter,

sons, James H., John both of Ew

Mrs. Pruden is a member and
officer in the Ewing Methodist
church for many years, has served
as vice-president and is « life
time member of the Womens Soci
ety of Christian Service, lias been
secretary-treasurer for the past
seven years of the Sunday scho
ol.
She is a honorary member of the
Future Homemakers of America,
a member of the American Le
gion auxiliary Red Cross represen
tative in the Ewing area, and a
member of the Eastern Star. Her
liobbies include cake decorating,
wood fiber flowers, leather kraft,
sewing and trying new' recipes.
