    A Poem
From Mrs. Eby ...
—EASTER FINERY—
U’s time to choose my outfit, the
best I can afford.
For next Sunday I’m aspiring to
greet the risen lord.
I will walk sedately, one of a hap
py throng,
And reveranily I’ll enter the church
where I belong.
TO the throbing hallelujahs that the
organ peals in praise.
My soul will be responding in the
silent prayer I raise.
The flowers in the chancel, the can
del’s flickering flame,
And the at hems swelling cadence,
will glorify His name.
If I should be presented at the
court of any king,
I’d want to be represented in the
best of everything.
So since it is my privilege to war
ship at the feet,
Of the King of all the universe. I
think it's only meet,
That I don my finest raiment and
look my very best.
Because it is an honor to greet this
holy Guest.
Some folks will term it foolish and
others call it pride,
But it’s just my way of showing
what I feel way down inside.
It’s just one way of saying “Oh!
death, where is thy sting"?
It’s just an outward symbol of the
joy I feel within.
It’s one way of paying homage to
the Christ who died to save a
host of weary pilgrims from the
darkness of the grave.
(Faustine P. Greene)

I wish your daughters to re
semble me in nothing but the
love of reading, knowing, by ex
perience, how far it is capable
of softening the crudest acci
dents of life; even the happiest
cannot be passed over without
many uneasy hours and there is
no remedy so easy as books,
which if they do not give cheer
fulness, at least restore quiet to
the most troubled mind.
Mary Mortly Montagu
These sunny days seem to perk
everyone up, give one a desire to
do a little cleaning or whatever
needs to be done. Even the birds
seem more cheerful during the ear
ly morning hours. It seems good to
hear them as morning approaches
and night comes upon us. Since
the snow and water subsided the
lawns are beginning to green up
and come alive again. It will take
quite a few warm drying days be
fore one will be able to clean and
rake their lawns.
Safety note: “The look you for
got to take could be your last.”
During the early spring months
young green cabbage has proven
to be a good buy for vitamin C.,
advises Jewel Graham, of Iowa
State University. Cabbage will
hold a large share of its vitamin
C. content for as long as two
months if stored a few degrees
above freezing. For refrigerating
cabbage it is best either to wrap
it or place it in your crisper. For
slicing cabbage use a sharp knife.
When cooking cabbage do so in as
short a time as possible and serve
at once.
To add color to your Easter bas
kets make some of these Almond
Carmel Drops and wrap them in
varied colored foil. Even if you
make the candy for yourself it
should be wrapped individually to
help keep crisp, full flavored ar.d
should the weather turn damp it
will not become sticky.
ALMOND CARAMEL DROPS
1 quart unblanched almonds
1 cup granulated sugar
% cup brown sugar (packed)
Mi cup light corn syrup
% cup milk
tfc cjp light cream
6 tablespoons butter
Mi teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
Place almonds in shallow pan
and roast in slow oven (300 degrees
F.) 20 to 25 minutes, until lightly
browned, cool. Combine sugars,
corn syrup, milk, cream, butter
and salt in deep saucepan and cook,
stirring occasionally, to firm ball
stage (24H degrees F.). Remove
from heat and stir in vanilla and
almonds, stirring only enough to
coat nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls
onto waxed paper to cool. Wrap
each piece individually when cool.
Makes about 3 dozen large pieces.
